Meh, if America had to lose one state I'd b ok with WV. The whole state smells like hog shit. And sometimes hog shit smells like survival -- lots of firewood, deer, running water to boil, wild herbs to forage, etc. etc. etc. |

New Jerusalem Russ Ewert User ID: 1123066 Canada 07/01/2012 01:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I drove through West Virginia yesterday on the way back to Niagara Falls from Myrtle Beach. Power was out in most places along the way and gas stations were empty. One town we drove through showed 112 degrees on the thermometer. Didn't look too good. We were looking all over for gas and finally found a place that only had 93 octane. The 87 and 89 were empty. People were running out of gas and just pulling over and stopping at rest areas and hotels. Very bad situation there. Sun Jun 4/15/12 Last Edited by Russell on 07/01/2012 01:20 PM |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1238594 United States 07/01/2012 01:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just came from Huntington, W.V and most of the town is still without power. No gas pumps working or motels open. Some stores selling cooler items for cash. It's HOT and miserable for those people. I did see about a dozen electric trucks heading that way from Kentucky. Bad situation. Quoting: AC 16125520 Oh yeah, in my list of problems I forgot to mention few ATMs working. Cash is King. |

Damrod User ID: 6266696 United States 07/01/2012 01:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My mother in law and her mom live in South Charleston, they have been told they should have power by Wednesday. Fortunately for them, they are tough old birds and always have a stock of canned and preserved foods. The family (uncles and cousins) are industrial electricians, they brought a small generator over so they could run fans and a small window AC. Grandma is 92 so the heat is not good for her. Doesn't help with water to drink, bathe or flush, but at least they have food and a way to fight the heat. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1238594 United States 07/01/2012 01:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Now my mother heard from a neighbor that the water plant is being shut down??? Quoting: Starry eyes I'm in a panic. She has 3 days worth of food... I live in Central part of the state and it is in terrible shape.. They have posted that surrounding counties may be out of electricity till July 7th... It was catagorized as a land hurricane that hit through the state last night.. Our water source is limited as well.. The water company doesnt have enough generators to keep the supply up.. There are a few stores in surrounding counties that had the backup generator where one can drive to purchase gas or groceries.. But there will be a wait as I have heard.. 3 hours at a gas station and walmart is like black friday.. Most areas have shelters and some will even local pickup.. She may want to check with doing that.. Cell phone service is going in and out and there is no phone service here as well.. Where are you, nopower? My sibs are in Roane and Jackson Co. |

I keep lots of 5 gal kerosene cans for heat, lots of food and lots of clean lamp oil. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8084990 As well as $600 in cash. $300 in ones. 200 in fives. and 100 in 10s. This makes sure i can get what I need. Fuel for rigs is always kept full at all times as well as a few jerry cans. Sorry she didnt learn till now when its time to learn. I try to tell people, and no one listens so when the power has been out for a week and they want to get warm I cook them a warm meal and force them to listen. many people may see that as being 'paranoid'.....but I think it's VERY smart.
