Re: Atlanta Snowmageddon 2014: Part Deux!!!!
I am in Georgia right now, North of Atlanta, Norcross to be specific.
I flew down here from Houston monday and will be here till friday.
There was a little hail today, Gerbil turd sized hail. it all melted away. Tonight its suppost to Snice, my word for the news's "OMG ICE AND SNOW HOLY SHIT THIS IS A SERIOUSLY DANGERIOUS MIX!" Its snice, The News is completely blowing this out of proportion, They are trying to compensate for they're fuck up last month of not warning anyone about the snow/ice, or Snice. I WILL LINK PICS when it starts tonight. I have Jerky, Rahman, Beer, Internet, Enemy Within "Incase I lose internet", and my trusty kickass flip flops.

They just said I kid you not lmao "UP to Four feet of snow in the next 24 hours"
bitchesbetrippin

Up north when they get 4 feet of snow, Mom yells at the kids to get up early and shovel that shit before going to school. lmao the hype here is overwhelming. I went to target to get a new mousepad and Guess what???
bitchesbetrippin

Anyways, I will update when something in the weather changes. Right now just Puffy low dense clouds, moderate breeze.
 Quoting: BoilMyChillz 2110356

I have no clue what news you are watching but the only thing I have heard of is 1/2" of ice tonight...lived here all my life and there's never been 4' of snow predicted nor occurred.

You're right,

bitchesbetrippin

I'll direct you here: [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Georgia got 6-8" that year.

The storm in 2011 dropped around 4", too and shut the city down for 4 days.

Check your memory, I think...

and guess what folks. even if theres 10 inches of ice and snow i'll still be at work making sure that many of you can get your supplies and help those in need of transportation or any other emergency. it's too bad we all don't practice this type of mentality or it wouldn't be a cluster fuck. watch the social pandemoneum experiment as it unfolds

There was an older man at Walmart today and all he had in his cart was two cases of beer. Lol.

I mist drive to Miami from nw Ohio tomorrow, could leave tonight if necessary. Should I stay on 75, take 285 or is there a safer route?

I would probably suggest taking 285 and following it until it ends.

Do you guy's not remember the REAL Blizzard in 1991 or 1992, when there was like 2 - 3 foot of snow!?!

This ain't shit! Quit freaking out you pussie's!

Oh yeah, miserable. I was caught in that, delivered a load of lumber to Johnson City TN in the Appalachians, ended up camping out at a gas station for about 3 days.
Super Storm of '93.

Some affected areas in the Appalachian region saw more than 3.5 feet of snow, and snowdrifts were as high as 35 feet.

I know that a lot of folks laugh at Atlanta and snow, but you have to understand, we don't have the equipment in place to deal with these types of situations. These situations are infrequent enough that they don't feel like the expenditure is justified.

This has the potential to be worse than part 1, as it is going to be, at least partially, an ice storm. I have the capability to work from home, so I will be good.

I'm trying to debate if I leave now and get to atlanta in 8 hours or wait until what time.. but if theyre saying this could be over a week maybe i should just cut through west of atlanta using US 1 / GA 27 if that would be the invevitable option later? Or even further west....?

I think you SOL now. North Georgia already has some freezing precip. From what I gather. We have nothing right now in kennesaw/Marietta, but its coming in a couple hours.

Btw, at this time of night, it doesn't matter which you take.

Edit..... By Friday it will all be melted. Our temps will be above freezing on Thursday. And sunny.

Re: Atlanta Snowmageddon 2014: Part Deux!!!!
Live in MN. Never have used chains on my tires. We also frequently get the whole ice under snow thing here. We have to deal with icy roads in the cities even when it doesn't snow because it is cold enough to freeze exhaust and cause black ice. One of my cars has almost bald tires and I can still get through the snow and ice. Remember ice melts with salt. Unless your temps are below zero which I doubt they are. It is really effective.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4943077

I grew up on those Minnesota roads. What you fail to realize is that even in the worst rush hour traffic the Twin Cities has, it's a drop in the bucket compared to Atlanta traffic. I lived in Atlanta for ten years. There is one main loop, a connector running north and south (which splits into 75/85 as you get to the edge of town), and one main road going east and west (20). Once you get a sheet of ice on that, people go flying every which way and the traffic comes to a complete stop for miles. There are no alternative routes.

I live in Wichita now, but let me tell you that Wichita has more major roadways than Atlanta, which has merely added lanes to the existing roads over the decades rather than building new ones as demand called for. Poor planning and even worse management.

Oh, for the Love of God, YES! They are bad enough to endure in good weather but all their bragging and lying in the ice and snow is unbearable.

And none of them can drive in this for some reason! Not even the long distance professional truck drivers!

Does the high humidity make the top of the ice and snow slicker or something?

The only thing worse than people who can't drive in the snow is people who think they can when they really can't!

Everyone should think about what ice does ta the power grid..electric lines snap and no power for many, many days.

Look at the area they have for the Ice Storm,no gas/food/heat unless you have it yourself already.
