My greatest advice is to try and get the model that has the least amount of electronics/bells and whistles. Doesn't really matter what brand it is, but I would stay away from the Korean made appliances (LG, Samsung), because they have a tendency to over design their appliances before technology is proven……basic is best…good luck. |

Johnny Lawrence is my sensei User ID: 75753367 ![]() 05/02/2018 09:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Anyone around that deals in appliances? Quoting: rolltiderv2 I've got a 10 year old Samsung washer/dryer that seems to need a part every 6 months. The parts themselves are pure crap. I've put 4 pumps and 3 main boards in the washer. I've put 5 heating elements in the dryer and/or thermo/resistor. Is LG any better or is just pure luck to get something that lasts more than 2 years nowadays? Generally. Appliances are now like phones and other consumer electronics. 90% won't make it 24 months without a catastrophic (and often engineered) failure. Building for quality died decades ago. All the suburbanite fucksticks needed their cheap, disposable lives! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22847021 25 years here. MIele is the top of the line, no equals. You're 100% correct the Asian companies and SMEG in Europe over engineer appliances to the point when one part failing will take out others. 3 1/2 hours for a Panasonic tub change on a washer is just daft. I miss the days when you could strip down a timer, clean the contacts and grease the timer instead of changing a pcb. And as for those new induction hobs, fook me £745 for pcbs alone after 12 months. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 74775434 ![]() 05/02/2018 10:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Samsung support is horrible. My 1 year old fridge crapped the bed due to coil ice-up problems from a poorly designed drain system. Took me over 1 month to get it resolved. Huge delay in getting their authorized local repair shop to come out, then huge delays in getting parts. Imagine living without your fridge for 1 month? Phone support is outsourced to a third party company who plays games with support ticket numbers, opening and closing, issuing a new one, to make it look like their resolution time/rate is good. Every time the case got closed and a new one opened, they assigned the wrong service company (not the same one who diagnosed and then started the repair!!). Never buying another Samsung product PERIOD. |

rolltiderv2 (OP) User ID: 76414449 ![]() 05/02/2018 10:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The washer has been less trouble than the dryer, but the fixes are more expensive. The ejection pump has gone out 3x. Each time it fries something on the motherboard. Stupid design as well. THe motherboard is dipped in an inch of glue so you can't just replace something on it easy. The dryer is something all the time but it's mostly due to cheap parts. THey don't use bearings and the pulley that puts tension on the belt has lasted 5 years or 6 months take your pick. Cheap parts. I'd spend 20 bucks on a part if it was designed properly vs the 10 buck pos. It's a racket. I swear, if I had enough capital I would start my own appliance company and put these crackers out of business. Had a samsung fridge that crapped the bed at 6 years. Pump went out. 600 to replace? Buy a new one is the only realistic option. Last Edited by rolltiderv2 on 05/02/2018 10:34 AM |

baker street User ID: 79237668 ![]() 12/28/2020 08:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Oh, I'm sorry that you experienced that with your dryer. Unfortunately, appliances nowadays are so fragile that would break after a few months of exploitation. Yeah, that happened to me. My LG oven broke after three months of working and that made me really mad. I think that companies release weak products on purpose so we would buy their products again and again. Fortunately, my father recommended me to contact [link to www.appliancetechnician.ca (secure)] who is considered to be one of the best oven technicians in our city. He professionally did his job and now my oven works even better than before. |

Be certain there is a green ground wire and a white neutral wire, both going back to the breaker box, both correct. Secure the breaker for the machine, take the female connector out of the wall outlet box, extend it some so you can AC voltmeter check it while the the machine is running through it. Plug in the machine, breaker on and run, voltage test. Don't electrocute yourself. |
Kislinh User ID: 80410249 ![]() 05/25/2021 10:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I searched for a very long time appliance repairman san diego [link to 5starappliancerepair.pro (secure)] and finally found it. Keep his contacts for yourself, too, so you'll have them handy when you need them! Knowing what appliances are like these days, such services may be needed by many. And power outages are also a common cause of breakdowns. Handle |

Justme C'est Moi User ID: 80193276 ![]() 05/25/2021 10:34 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Amana has some cheap washing machine options for a simple machine with a real agitator. And is made in the US. I bought one a few years ago at Home Depot and love it. It also cleans better and much faster than the big fancy machine it replaced. Actually I kept the big Cabrio platinum hooked up as well, for when I want to wash a huge bed comforter. It works, but the cycle is about twice as long as the Amana, and lacking a proper agitator, it doesn't clean very well. But it does have an enormous capacity. My gas dryer has never had a problem in 26 years of usage. Bought it in 1995. Kenmore. Well, I did have to clean the lint out from around the insides 2 years ago. Probably worth it to make sure your machines are on a surge protector if they have a lot of delicate electronics that you want to keep working. Cheap Chinese capacitors (and maybe some resistors and MOSFETs), tend to fail from minor voltage spikes. Last Edited by JustmeTX on 05/25/2021 10:43 PM Justme |
