Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77253905 It didn't rain most of the day. It started to drizzle a couple hours before the Derby and some heavier rains an hour before the Derby. If the track was unsafe after the Derby the jockeys would declare the track unsafe, refuse to ride and the races after the Derby would have been canceled. That is generally how races are canceled on a wet track. Those races weren't canceled so the track was not unsafe. A sloppy track generally isn't a big deal. |

Races are routinely run in the slop at Churchill Downs. Churchill Downs does not cancel races for rain unless lightening is present in the area. In that case, the race would only have been delayed. I was there for the Oaks race a few years ago, and they waited for the lightening to move out and then held the race. BTW, did anyone watch the Oaks this year? A filly fell right after the break. Jaywalk, the filly who impeded her was DQ'd. Jaywalk was the 3rd favorite in the race, and I've not heard any complaining from anyone over the stewards' decision in that race. |

I think they call it jostling for position. I would never ride that way. Even if I got the outside starting position. I would cross so that I wouldn't get a speck of mud on me and if that meant riding four abreast, so be it. Racing is racing Yes it is. Craziest thing ever to say a horse in a race changed lanes to gain advantage. Of course it did....that's the point....they are tards. 20 wide and entertaining as hell for example. |

I played the Oaks/Derby double and had the Oaks winner. Was alive with MS, Tacitus and Roadster in the Derby. Jaywalk finished 6th and would not have been involved in any payouts even if not DQd. If you watch frame by frame you can see the 8 horse turn his head to the left after the gate opens (probably the jockey pulling his left rein) and #8 then bumps into Jaywalk (#7) who then cuts off #6 and #6 goes down. This is similar to what Bayern did in 2014 in the Breeder's Cup Classic. Bayern was NOT DQd. Bayern's actions were arguably worse, but no horse went down and I think the stewards said all horses had enough time to recover and it didn't compromise any horses chances of a higher placing. |

War of Will should be DQ'ed and his jockey suspended, and Maximum Security should be reinstated as winner of the race. MS had been getting hacked on the hind leg before jumping outside. Question EVERYTHING Traveler In The Matrix User ID: 77637614 United States 05/14/2019 01:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The racing stewards and commissioners have completely screwed this issue. Quoting: MarPep [link to www.usatoday.com (secure)] "The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission has suspended Maximum Security jockey Luis Saez for 15 racing days after determining he interfered with other riders in the controversial 2019 Kentucky Derby. Days after race stewards met with the jockeys involved in the inquiry that led to Maximum Security’s disqualification, the commission announced Monday that Saez is suspended for 15 racing days. The KHRC cited "failure to controI his mount and make the proper effort to maintain a straight course thereby causing interference with several rivals that resuIted in the disqualification of his mount," in its ruling against Saez." That day I think they did the best they could do because it that were a claiming race there would have been a disqualification in twenty seconds. The thing I find interesting is the President commenting on this. It wasn't necessary but he commented anyway saying the best horse didn't win or something like that. Makes you wonder if he knows that something odd went on with this race. |

I agree it had to do with money. The house probably would have lost more money paying out for the favorite than the long shot they gave the win to. |

It was a bad decision IMO (it's about 50/50 so plenty of opinions on both sides) but money is unlikely a factor. Pari-mutuel betting doesn't work like a casino. You aren't betting against the house. It is player versus player. About 20% of the wagered money goes to the track, horseman and state. The remainder is paid out based on the number of winning tickets. The track makes no more money if the favorite wins or a longshot wins. Granted, there are some shady things that happen at a race track on occasion but I don't think there was any nefarious plot behind the scenes. I do think that if the trainers of the top 2 finishers were swapped the decision may have been different, but that wouldn't have been a preconceived plot. Maximum Security's trainer isn't as revered in the industry as Country House's trainer is. MS's trainer has a lot of people who think he cheats using banned substances and CH's trainer is basically God and can do no wrong. |
