My car is one of the last models with a cassette tape player ... In My front seat are various tapes from High School (40yr. ago Maxell brand ) ... even those are one by one biting the dust ...

Yes the Type I 'ferric' or 'normal' tapes are the only ones being produced today. Because of "environmental factors" the better Type II 'chrome' tapes and Type IV 'metal' tapes have not been made for decades.

However with a good tape deck such as any of the 3 (and some 2 head) Nakamichi decks, you can get excellent recordings even on type I tapes (little to no hiss).

There are still quite a few of the Type II chrome tapes around which you can often find new for around $3 or so.

Done well you can get excellent / pro sounds out of a good system.

I recently found an old Maxell 46 minute cassette.

I just found 2 type IV tapes in my closet yesterday. Going to sell them on ebay for 25 euros.

8 track recorders are hard to find.

I've collected roughly 600 mostly 80s 45s. Not cassettes though.

oh no doubt - I pick them up at yard sales especially if sealed for peanuts. I got an entire box of sealed cassettes from the early 1970s for a couple bucks and sold them for about $30 each on Ebay

I got an entire TOTE of 8 tracks at a yard sale for $5 total when I saw they were all QUAD - sold for $40-$100 each. Made close to $1000 on the deal

Yes. Cassette tapes will be the only form of currency in 2021.

Not for their intrinsic value but because they can be used as dental floss.

I have a 1965 AMC and have been looking for a cassette player. Radio is only AM. Been buying cassettes at 2nd hand stores for a buck a piece.
Will check the pawn shops to try to find a player.
