My problem with Dr lugols....

The plastic dropper starts to dry up before I finish the container then it's no good.

I just take Icelandic Kelp tabs... cheap and each one gives 150% daily amount needed.. they don't spoil or dry out .. I do NOT suggest the powder version.. my gawd those taste terrible.

I just buy mine in bottles of of 500 to 1000. I am not a fish eater... and my levels were low. And the natural sea type salts I use do not have iodine added to them.

Thanks for the tip. Castor oil really does absorb well, ive rubbed some on my stomach for laxative purposes and it was very effective. I dont have the liquid magnesium, surely I could just dissolve some powdered magnesium? I have orotate and diglycinate. Any recommendation for the amounts of each ingredient?

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but look up the iodine protocol.
Drs. Brownstein, flechas, and Abraham.

Two very good books.

Great thread.

Just know that you will initially have bad detox reactions when you start an iodine protocol. Headaches and such.
There is a salt loading protocol to help with this and it works wonders.
Don’t be scared of real unrefined salt. Your body needs it.

I don't think the "old man vitamin"(Men's 50+) has hurt,either

Also started taking zinc and vitamin E recently.

I had problems lifting my arms without strong pain and after 6 months I realized one day that the pain when moving my arms was gone.

I cannot take tumeric other than the small amounts in seasoning and I don't cook with those spices but a few times a year.

Tumeric is an NSAID and some of us cannot use NSAIDS.. I got the same stuff with circumin.. a concentrate of tumeric...

I'll share a few things I've discovered that will help improve your health.

The Western diet is very deficient in iodine and magnesium.

I used to have 20:550 eyesight. Could see close up, but walk 10 ft away and you were just fuzz. Then I hit 45 and lost my adaptive eyesight (the lens becomes rigid and unable to change focal point).

Started the iodine to try out a Polarpure water purifier to see how bad the taste was. Made a liter of water with it. Well, it tasted wonderful. So I made another liter of iodine water the next day. It was hot weather and it was so refreshing.

After 4 days of doing this, I noticed my brain fog lifted.
Polarpure method was a bit of a pain in the but, so I switched to Dr. Lugol's since that involved just putting a few drops into a glass of water. Then I noticed a zinging like pain in the front of my eye every so often. Apparantly that was the lens becoming mobile again. Now I can see up close perfectly, and also my distance vision has gotten way the heck better. The optometrist thought I must had lasik. The amt of iodine I take is roughly the equivalent of what the Japanese get in their seafood rich diet.
(The US RDA is far too low, and the iodine in salt is just enough to keep you from developing a goiter).

Iodine is water soluble and runs to the sea. Depleted inland areas are referred to as the "goiter belt".


The other nutrient we are short on is magnesium. This is vital to heart health. All I can say is take a supplement with the RDA for magnesium. I discovered this when I had a physical and the doc ran an EKG and told me my heart rhythm was screwed up.
Was getting PVCs etc.
I did a little reading and found that magnesium is essential for a healthy heart beat. Not enough in food unless you eat 10 lbs of meat a day. Started taking a supplement pill. went back to the doc and insisted he redo the EKG. Clean as a whistle, no more PVCs. And I could feel the improvement as well when I exercised.

Hope that helps some people.

If you need Magnesium its important to look for the compound "Magtein" Magnesium Threonate. Its absorption is nearly 100% whereas regular magnesium isn't absorbed enough to really be beneficial.

All the Magnesium you buy at the store is basically wasted. I take 2 scoops of Magtein daily. I used to get bad migraines and they didn't stop when I took the pills. When I started Magtein it literally cured me.

Iodine evaporates, I took the pills for a few years and it didn’t do much, I believe the Iodine evaporates out of them, which is why it destroys the dropper rubber top over time. I like Lugol’s iodine drops by J Crow 5%

That reminded me of copper as well.

Supposed to keep your hair from turning grey and is vital to blood vessel health. Deficiency in copper causes aneurysms, varicose veins, etc according to Dr. Wallach. Lots of missing nutrients from most American diets...

But, taking Mg willy nilly may not help completely. You need to have proper balance of Na:K:Mg:Ca. You must get 4700 mg of K a day (imperative) but it is almost impossible with food alone (even in 'good' foods). This is the starter. But I have found that almost no amount of Na salt will cause you harm if you have it at least 1:1 or 2:1 K:Na (so eat your salty foods, just get potassium with it).

Then whole food Vitamin C, eat grass fed beef liver (find a local farmer) about 1x a week, find real vitamin E, and cod liver oil. Round off with some minor other things and you are talking about complete nutrition. :) That's a start....then monitor the remainder of your diet and add in the other missing items (hint, don't take nutritionist and science at face here....do your own research and find out what you truly need with science backing it up).

Check out Boron tablets 3mg. You need to take two per day.
It took care of my muscle and bone pains.

This is true. Boron is a very good additional component to take. I am in my mid 40s...with Test of mid 30s average male. It was lower in my early 40s (before I began making changes).

Before: I had panic attacks. Insomnia. Overweight.
Now: No attacks. As soon as my head hits my pillow I'm out and sleep 7-8 hours a night, not overweight and healthy and can move and do things I couldn't 10 years ago.

Most important is lifestyle, getting up and doing things daily, taking your vitamins, sourcing and eating good foods.
