Barack Obama's regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein wants all "conspiracy theories" banned.

Not only is that a direct attack on human rights, journalists, news companies and freedom in all areas of life but it is truly a idiotic statement to make.

No, THIS IS.... ZioNWO! *kicks you in the pit*

This bill only moves FEDERAL CIVILIAN NETWORKS (i.e. government owned networks that are not used for military purposes) control from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

This is not proposed as a government take over of PRIVATE networks.

I wish people would learn to read and comprehend before drinking the koolaid.

Don't believe me? Fucking read the bill and have an intelligent debate.

This makes perfect sense... the government sees the impending collapse of the dollar and the US bankruptcy and knows the citizens will be leveraging the communication via the internet for the coming revolution... they think if they shut down the internet they can protect their power... granted it will certainly delay their coming but it will come regardless...

How DO we circumvent this or work around it, to keep information flowing as much as possible?

Re: GOVERNMENT TAKE OVER OF THE INTERNET BEING FAST TRACKED!!
Besides, don't you think free speech advocacy groups, large private network holders like AT&T, Comcast, and others would be a little upset if the government was trying to seize control of private citizens and corporations networks? Yet no press releases from them. Odd don't you think?

It's because these cyber security bills are about securing government networks, both civilian and military.

Yeah, some of them probably have some stupid wording in them, like the proposed "kill-switch" that made the news but was dropped when the law writers were told it'd be nigh impossible without a trillion dollar investment to change the fundamental nature of the internet.

In government parlance, "civilian" means agencies like Social Security Administration. Non-military. "Private" means you and me.

Rather than a shortwave you should get a hand scanner, that way you get a choice of bands in case anyone is also broadcasting locally too on UHF\VHF or handheld radios.

Ham radio is a really good back up for this kind of shit. You don't need a license just to listen; only to transmit. The license test for the 1st level is really easy and there's free internet study sites. 1st level license test costs $14.00 There are plenty of good used ham radios around, too.
 Quoting: Anonymous 750018

Can you elaborate as well?

As with SW, I know nothing about ham either. I used to have a CB radio once upon a time, but that's about it.

Which would be better, ham or SW? I'm just interested in listening at this point, should the SHTF and the internet gets cut off.

Where would be a good source of used equipment?

I suspect it is politics as usual. A problem has been identified, publicized (this very topic was on 60 Minutes and 20/20 the last few weeks,) and now a power struggle to be the "one who saved the day" is underway.

But please don't get me wrong. I commend your vigilance in the face of government tyranny. I was just lashing out at the herd mentality of all the people who were so willing to go along without reading or understanding what was being discussed.

This bill is not reason to take to the streets. It just makes government bureaucrats report to a new douchebag in a different building.

We need people to watch these jerks. Because if we don't, one day we will wake up and they will be at our doors, to take what is ours while we slept.

Now one of those I DO have already... runs on AA's. I forget what brand it is- I think it's one of those Radio Shack brands- Realistic? My husband bought it quite a while ago.

I would also like to have something like SW because it can pick up signals from much farther away.

Ham is good advice, like a re-loader...good to have...

I mentioned this recently as well...as I think it will be restricted or shut down for many...Strangely, they have many cables under the ocean across to the east from usa east coast..but only use a few of them...as though they want to hinder communication, or restrict bandwidth as though they are up against the wall...

Also the dropping of analog in many systems and the push/DRIVE to digital, so they have more room to carry RFID crap

many who consider themselves elite, do NOT like open lines of comm...and the outing of their filth and their grubbiness in their actions...

So be prepared...protect a comm line of some kind...the more independent one can be, the safer it is...

BTW
How much for a decent used Ham? I use to have a Ham operator that use to live next to my house...but I sold it when the housing industry seemed to start to sink...

Thx
