Queensland floods continue - Getting worse - Check out the video

I just got back home to Sydney after a week in Hervey Bay looking for a house to rent. I made it to Marybrough but the bridge was under water. The local publican (who's pub I seen on the news now underwater :( ) directed me to another way south. Thankyou mister publican.
Got to Gympie and was unable to go any further. Made phone calls to find out if there was another way around and eventually after 5 hours got some info from the police about a way around the flood and made it the rest of the way home with no drama. Hope you are all ok up there. Im waiting on the Mary river to recede so I can move my family up to Hervey Bay. Hopefully we can get through next week.

In Gympie, police say about 65 businesses and 50 homes are at risk of flooding from the rising Mary River.

It is expected to peak at about 20 metres overnight.

The general manager of Gympie's Royal Hotel, Jason Williams, says residents are bracing for a flood like the one in February 1999 - when it reached 21.95 metres and inundated 150 businesses and 20 homes.

"The flood of '99 was 21.95 I believe, which is to the awning of our hotel ... few metres yet to get there, but she's creeping up," he said.

Residents in Darkwood and Upper Thora have been isolated since 7:00am (AEDT), and a further 200 millimetres of rain is expected within the next 36 hours as the risk of major flooding increases on the north coast.

Already about 500 people have been cut off by floodwaters from the Bellinger River near Thora, and around 200 people in the village of Urbenville are now also isolated.

its not over - 60mm of rain in the last hour in some areas - absolutely pissing down where I am too.


Gympie people need to be told there is lots more coming there way - its gonna go past the predicted peak.

In the late 1970s I lived near Darkwood, Upper Thora, past the 3rd bridge, which went underwater every major flood. I remember being cut off for 3 days in 1977 due to flooding caused by a cyclone off Queensland!

the narrow valley there means local flash flooding can become common in wet seasons.

It's no only you Aussies that are experiencing this kind of problems.

People who live and work along the Brisbane River are also being warned to brace for flooding, as the capital city begins to feel the effects of the big wet.

Authorities fear the swollen river could flood more than 200 homes and businesses as early as Wednesday, and again next Friday.

Heavy rain has already caused some localised flooding in low-lying parts of the city.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman says the Wivenhoe Dam is the only thing sparing the city from a flood like that of 1974.

"Wivenhoe Dam is actually protecting Brisbane right now and in the coming days from a flood right up there with '74," he said.

Emergency services have been sand-bagging homes in low-lying areas and are worried a big rain cell off the coast could dump more rain on Ipswich tonight.

Premier Anna Bligh says the two major hotspots now in the south-east are Ipswich and Brisbane.

the winds are blowing fowl here so hopefully its now enough to push the rain away.

Are the venomous snakes and spiders moving upland as well? I think I would freak out seeing snakes in the water, yulk!! Is that snake I saw on the video a Taipan?

Dalby Regional Council has put out an emergency disaster alert for the town of Condamine - river is going to peak at over 15m day after tomorrow - but the roads go under at 10m - so they are saying get out now if you can/need to.
