Old Sol's perking up a bit today...10 C-flares already. The biggest a C 9.1 from AR1499, which is directly Earth-facing.

I posted a birthday thread for NiN, so you guys be sure to post your good wishes on it for her there as well! Today, the 7th, is her actual birthday.

The kids and I were up LATE last night, okay till early morning so haven't been up all that log and saw your post here!!! Wow. Cartoons are on so will check the news in a little bit and see what it showed local here and let you know. My news is out of Denver btw.

Cool Stuff! I think the activity will pick back up again. We keep seeing a waxing and waneing of energy. Like a dynamo effect. Each time the intensity increases with the peaks and I believe this will continue through solar max sometime next year or even into 2014. Well, so much for the "so few flares" now..haha.

We had really bad storms here yesterday.
It rained about 4 in, and the power was on and off 3 times for long periods. I am just thankful they got it back on.

I did manage to get a blog post up this morning on the M 2.1 flare finally, and uploaded this video. SDO composit of AIA 131, 211, and 335. Be sure and watch in full screen.

I got to see "venus" with my own eyes thru my dark eyeglass set up that day.

NASA goddard space weather analysis has now posted an arrival forecast for yesterday's CME-

CME Arrival Time: 2012-06-10 03:23:32.0 GMT
Arival Time Confidence Level: ± 6 hours
Disturbance Duration: 0 hours
Disturbance Duration Confidence Level: ± 8 hours
Magnetopause Standoff Distance: 6.9 Re

I'm guessing that "Duration: 0 hours" means they're expecting a shock or glancing blow and not a full-blown magnetic storm.

Here's the description from SIDC in Belgium-

COMMENT: The Catania sunspot group 63 (NOAA AR 1494) produced an M 2.1
flare peaking at 20:05 UT on June 6. The type II and type IV radio
emission was observed associated with this event. The flare was
accompanied with the coronal dimming and partial-halo CME. The CME is
propagating with the speed of about 500 km/s and it is southward
directed. The possible arrival of the CME-driven shock wave is on June
10. We expect more flaring activity at the C-class level, and possibly
also M-class flares.

Here we go, Suntards, another strong flare from 1494! A C7.7; CME watch begins NOW as this region is staring almost straight at us.

Can't say if the C7 produced a CME yet but there was an awesome prominence lift-off near the north pole. SDO images of C7.7 flare:

From my limited experience, almost every active region that passes a C5 almost always gives us a high M or an X-flare at some point. Also, 1494 is very well-connected to regions in the north; so we may see sympathetic flares triggering back and forth. Just a wild guess....

NOAA has issued 2 Radio emission alerts for the last C7 flare. Still watching for a CME. These indicators favor a CME event of some sort....stay tuned.
