I knew it took a while for milk to reach store shelves. I may have posted this already on another thread, but these threads are difficult to keep up with.
Something I am pondering...
If the milk tested was from the store shelf, it is at least 2 weeks old. Therefore, exactly what is the radiation reading at the FARM? It would have to be a lot higher for radioactive iodine. So the cows, farmers, and surrounding area are being exposed to higher amounts. Not just from the rain, and ground but also the air. Dairy products are trucked all over the country. I found dairy products from several different states at the local grocery store.
We are making adjustments to our eating habits, and the foods we buy. It is so difficult not to buy leafy greens, especially since eating salad daily. We also have not purchased mushrooms or milk.

It is difficult to make these adjustments, and even worse that we have so little reliable information from our government to guide us.

Some of this information is difficult to find, and difficult to interpret, and I don’t think that this is any accident.

The FDA and the EPA use different cut offs and measurements which makes the data even more confusing.

This article from Forbes explains it a bit (sorry about the ad)

“Why Does FDA Tolerate More Radiation Than EPA?”

“Since the Environmental Protection Agency began detecting radiation in rainwater and milk at levels above its maximum contaminant level, government officials have been downplaying the importance of EPA’s maximum contaminant level. They would much prefer us to speak in terms of the Food and Drug Administration’s “Derived Intervention Level."

"The two levels could hardly be more different:
EPA does not allow drinking water to contain more than 3 picoCuries per liter of radioactive istotopes like iodine-131 and cesium-137.
FDA allows up to 4,700 picoCuries of iodine-131 in a liter of milk and up to 33,000 picoCuries of cesium-137.

That means FDA’s 4,700 picoCurie limit for one liter of milk is almost seven times higher than EPA’s exposure maximum for a year.
FDA’s limit for Cesium-137 in a single liter of milk is 47 times higher than EPA’s annual maximum for human exposure."

I can’t help but get the feeling that deception is intended.

As for trying to figure out where our food comes from, I think it is difficult at best.

The Country of origin laws are in place, but vary from State to Sate, and product to product. The State laws, to the best of my knowledge are not uniform.

"Country of origin labeling (COOL) requires labeling for muscle cuts and ground beef, veal, lamb, pork, goat, chicken, farm-raised and wild fish, shellfish, fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, peanuts, pecans, macadamia nuts and ginseng that states the country of origin. This mandatory measure was implemented March 16, 2009, by USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service."

I don’t know if there was a thread on this a while back, it seems I remember something about this (but could not find it), which lists for the barcodes of the various States. I will keep looking for it, but if anyone knows this, please post or link to it.

Someone a while back asked if I had any data on cancer risk for various isotopes, and this was the best that I could come up with.

Here is something to think about without actually doing the math. Lets say you have a small square meter garden. In your garden 1 molecule of iodine-131 is being deposited daily. With a half life of 8 days, at the end of 30 days you will have somewhere between 10 and 15 molecules of iodine-131 in your garden.
Now thinking of those projection maps of different types of radioactive matter constantly hitting the US, we have much more of a build up. With 6 to 9 month more of this the build up with be even more.

Haven't read all pages, but for most of us chlorella, baking soda and Himalyan salt might be enough.

This is my recipe: Fill a mug with water (1-2 liters), add a teaspoon of baking soda and a tiny amount of salt. Lemon is good too..! :) Drink it all during the day.

Chlorella might take a while for the body to get used to, so start low: 1 tablet for each meal, increase if it feels ok. 5 tablets x 4 meals a day (20) should be proper when the body is used to this.

Remove worries and fear - add some sunshine, love, happiness and nice music:

For some strange reason, I forgot to specifically mention kelp. Thanks for brining this up!

Kelp is high in iodine, and one of those naturally protective substances fro the thyroid gland in protecting it against radioactive I 131. As kelp concentrates iodine, it is imperative to make sure that the kelp did not come from waters contaminated with radioactive I 131 or other radioactive elements.

“Suppression of 125I-uptake in mouse thyroid by seaweed feeding: possible preventative effect of dietary seaweed on internal radiation injury of the thyroid by radioactive iodine.”

“We conducted an animal experiment to determine how dietary seaweeds rich in iodine and dietary fibers suppress radioactive iodine uptake by the thyroid, using mice and four kinds of experimental diets, three with 1% or 2% powdered fronds of the kelp Laminaria religiosa and 2% powdered laver Porphyra yezoensis, and one with cellulose.”

"The degree of the suppression was observed to depend on the amount of iodine in the diet or in the injected sample, no matter whether organic or inorganic, judging from the results of an additional experiment. Thus, we conclude that previously fed iodine-rich material, especially dietary seaweeds rich in iodine and other minerals, vitamins, and beta-carotene, such as kelps or laver supplemented with inorganic iodine, may be effective in prevention of internal radiation injury of the thyroid."

[link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

I am going to specifically add kelp to the iodine section.
BTW this was pinned once, but only late at night for about 2 hours.

I am amazed at some of the stuff that is pinned here, and how long it stays up, with little if any reliable data or information..hf

Excellent points.

Chlorella is mentioned on the first page with Spirulina under the heading of :

Spirulina, Chlorella
I could have certainly could have devoted a bit more time to it.

"The radioprotective effects of aqueous extract from chlorococcal freshwater algae (Chlorella kessleri) in mice and rats."

"After injection of this substance the number of haemopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow and spleen of mice (CFUs) increased, as did their survival after irradiation. Irradiation with a lethal dose of gamma rays 24 hours after the injection of Ivastimul is survived by a larger number of treated mice and rats than untreated ones. On the first day after the administration Ivastimul protects mice against brief and prolonged action of irradiation."
[link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Baking soda is covered on the first page, as it helps to protect the kidneys from ionizing radiation.

And any type of salt containing iodine is preferable to those salts without, IMHO.

Depression is also associated with exposure to ionizing radiation, for obvious reasons I guess.

Many times, patients with positive attitudes seem to do unexpectedly better than those with negative attitudes, so your points about removing worries and fear are very valid.

I have always found that knowledge helps to dispel fear, as even if things get bad, as long as people know their options, they seem to feel stronger and more in control of their outcome. Maybe every little bit helps.

Some people seem to feel that ignorance is bliss, but I don’t agree with that…it just seems somehow too sheepish.sheep

I am grateful I don't live in Hawaii at the moment, it appears the state care more about money and less about the risk of radiation in food. The same could be said about all states, but the milk is obviously not suitable for drinking at the moment.

Agreed, unfortunately some parents will wait for an "official government announcement" before changing their children's dietary habits.

This thread also has a pretty good discussion, especially about some of the governmental behavior in the past:

Thread: "Highest Yet: Cesium-134 in Northern California topsoil at 250% level of previous test"

"The Downwinders ran into other roadblocks as well. Even if they could show that officials at the Nevada Tests Site had acted in ways not contemplated by approved plans, the claimants had to establish that the atomic tests more probably than not had caused their leukemia and cancer. This proved extremely difficult, because people with no apparent exposure to atomic radiation got cancer and leukemia, and cancer often remained latent for long periods before spreading through the body."

"The Downwinders filed their case--Allen v. The United States--before federal judge Bruce Jenkins, in Salt Lake City in August 1979. By the time the case came to trail in September 1982, Ronald Reagan sat in the White House, and Henry Gill, attorney for the Department of Energy (DOE), took the lead in presenting the government's defense. Not surprisingly, Gill and his team based their defense on the plea that the AEC had acted within the scope of its legal discretion under the FTCA. Under this line of argument, they said officials at the Nevada Test Site had no duty to warn the public of the dangers of the atomic tests."

"In the meantime, Downwinders sickened and died from leukemia and cancer. As a young child, Claudia Boshell Peterson of St. George mourned as her playmates wasted away under the blows of leukemia and melanoma and lost limbs to cancer. As a mother, she agonized as her daughter Bethany succumbed to a tortuous death under the scalpel of neruoblastoma and leukemia. As a sister, she mourned as her sister Cathy, the mother of six, died from melanoma. Served a mess of pottage by the Tenth Circuit Court and the U.S. Supreme Court, the Downwinders turned to Congress for help. Largely because of the work of Utah's Senator Orrin Hatch and Congressman Wayne Owens, Congress passed and President George Bush approved the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act in 1990 under which the government apologized to the victims for the irresponsible behavior of managers at the Nevada Test Site and established a trust fund to pay for some of the injuries."

I am just going to re-quote one part of this because it is so important:

"Under this line of argument, they said officials at the Nevada Test Site had no duty to warn the public of the dangers of the atomic tests."

I hope parents in Hawaii don't let kids drink milk. I am disappointed the government can't stop milk sales at least "temporally" as they put it.

I don't think you mentioned pre and probiotics in your supplement list. We switched form cow milk yogurt to coconut milk yogurt, and almond milk yogurt.

I read that the plant spiderwort will change colors when exposed to radiation. Time to plant some spiderwort!

Thanks for bringing this up, you are absolutely correct, and I am adding it to the list.

Probiotics

“Intestinal injury from ionizing radiation is a clinically important entity, as enteritis symptoms occur commonly after radiotherapy for pelvic malignancies. Preventative or therapeutic options for radiation enteritis are mostly unsatisfactory; however, available data suggests that probiotic bacteria--those which confer health benefit--may have therapeutic value. Newer data suggests that particular probiotics and/or their secreted or derived bacterial products may have unique radioprotective properties.

I found this article on water filtration of Iodine-131.

How To Remove Radioactive Iodine-131 From Drinking Water

Awesome article, thanks for posting.smile_kiss I am going to add it to the first page:

“How To Remove Radioactive Iodine-131 From Drinking Water”

“The best solution may be the one used routinely to treat water at the Savannah River Site. The process combines activated carbon, reverse osmosis, and ion exchange. If one doesn’t get the iodine-131, two others have a chance to capture the radiation through other means.”

RE: cleaning the water, if you read the update on the Forbes blog, you will see that distillation was added as a means of addressing the iodine-131.

Has anyone bought this ebook, by Dr. Russell Blaylock - Nuclear Sunrise? It's only $10 but wondering if it has exact grams/mg's for each supplement he suggests. Anyone have it? Is it valuable to buy?
