The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

I mean seriously, look at what most of those people have to go through just to get to that line. Who really believes a fence is going to stop them? No gonna happen. There is a better solution: More guards. More guns. More freedom to use those guns. Go after the slave-traders and druglords in Mexico before they get here (hell, if we can invade sovereign countries without batting an eyelash, how is Mexico any different)? Goodbye, halcyon days... There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened. |

Quoting: cRoSS FiReObama is traveling to El Paso, across the border from violence-wracked Ciudad Juarez, where he will push for massive immigration reform, an initiative that has gotten little leverage in Congress. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace. -Bill Hicks |

Unless you're talking about a 6 foot steel wall that has at least a 12 foot foundation underground, this is absolutely useless. I say screw the fence and put all those high-tech Arizona engineering companies at work building a solid electronic perimeter with seismic and infrared sensors all over the ground. This is by far more cost-effective than yet another fence and a simple fence without these sensors is useless. Seismic sensors would detect any tunneling and the infrared could pick up heat signatures. The government knows this is the solution which is why they shut this project down and de-funded it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1366664 Mexico 05/09/2011 01:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well it would have been a better idea if they didn't use Prison Labor to do it... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1029725A community works project of this scale could have supported a pretty huge workforce and supplied many with jobs that otherwise they wouldn't have. Makes you wonder what it is exactly they're protecting? If you live in a state where you can't afford to hire even day laborers for a project like this, what the hell are you protecting, sounds like a shithole. Create jobs where they're needed, fill them with eager people ready to work with their hands towards a goal, and THEN when you can't find any more laborers use prison labor. Otherwise it's just more prison planet shenanigans and I hope the US Govt stops them with force, because they need to be. Ironically I would be 100% behind this IF they used paid labor and provided jobs to the citizens, but using Prison Labor just shows they have zero desire to do the right thing and only want to act out of the wrong motivations which can only end badly. I agree with the jobs for non-inmates, for sure. People would relocate (temporary or permanent), boost AZ's economy, etc. There are people all over the U.S. without work who would love to be a part of that. you have never been to so. arizona in the summer.... or worked in the desert..... |

If you really want to hurt the PTB where it hurts, decriminalize the drug trade that they control. Crime rates will drop to zero over night, gangs will dissolve. The only people crossing the border will be those intent on hard work and establishing a better life for themselves, which is the American way. |
