Do you think that people all over the world are drinking contaminated water due to the radiation in the atmosphere that is carried around by the jet stream?... Quoting: Thuggerz thanks P.S Do you think they would be testing tap water due to Fukushima? Local water companies would be monitoring water systems. If you are on a well, you might want to get an analysis from the county. Rainwater, ponds, any standing water would be suspect. There is a lot of natural radiation in the ground. Fuku contamination is probably amongst other forms. Lab analysis is needed to determine exact quantities and isotopes. You might want to watch this. [link to www.simplyinfo.org] |

Description A "small fire" at a UK nuclear power plant, which provoked a major response by the emergency services, has been extinguished without anyone suffering injuries, police say. The blaze at Hartlepool Power Station caused smoke to billow from the plant, but Cleveland Police said it was drifting away from homes. Police and fire crews remained on the scene as a precaution, the force spokeswoman said. The force statement said: "During incidents such as this, there are several procedures that take place including the venting of steam generators. "This particular process causes noise, which residents of nearby areas such as Seaton Carew may hear. "There is smoke billowing as a result of the fire, but it is currently heading in a direction that does not cause any implications for members of the public. "Police and fire (officers) remain at the scene as a precautionary measure." [link to hisz.rsoe.hu] Last Edited by CitizenPerth™ on 04/21/2013 03:46 AM It's life as we know it, but only just. Waterbug (OP) User ID: 34388912 United States 04/21/2013 11:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | More Tepco mismanagement [link to www.japantimes.co.jp] [snip] Tepco is circulating about 370 tons of water every day to cool the damaged reactors, but about 400 tons of groundwater are flowing into the basements of the reactor buildings every day and mixing with the cooling water. This means that the amount of highly radioactive water that must be stored is increasing by 400 tons a day. Because the underground pools can no longer be used, this water must now be stored in aboveground tanks. Tepco has stated that even in a worst possible leakage scenario, aboveground tanks would have a capacity of 5,000 tons of water, equivalent to 12 or 13 days’ worth of contaminated water. But space for building new tanks in the compound is decreasing and will eventually run out. The government, Tepco and outside experts must closely cooperate to come up with a feasible solution. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 38176253 Sweden 04/22/2013 04:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | IAEA ends review of Fukushima decommissioning plan The International Atomic Energy Agency says the main and most immediate challenge in decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station is managing the accumulated radioactive wastewater. An IAEA team of experts has wound up eight days of checking Japan's efforts to decommission the crippled plant. The team conducted interviews with government and TEPCO officials and visited the site. At a news conference in Tokyo on Monday, team leader Juan Carlos Lentijo referred to a series of wastewater leaks at the facility. He urged the government and the operator to enhance the management of wastewater, as well as to further examine and explain the impact of such water on the plant's immediate environs. Plant operator Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) said it halted cooling of the No. 2 unit pool, which stores spent uranium fuel rods at the Fukushima Daiichi site, for a few hours to remove the rats and install a net to stop further such intrusions. The utility hopes that the new protection will aid workers in removing debris from the top of the reactor building, but the plant has repeatedly suffered mishaps which have shaken public confidence in the utility and regulators ability to manage a long-term decommissioning project.
