NICT Real Time Magnetosphere Simulation is back up. Anyone seen it look like *this* before? | |

Some reason NICT took these down and at the time I was trying to bring them up and save them. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 907170 I have harvested these lost links. (by using a guessing script) Nothing unusual, it is just the start of data collection: [link to www2.nict.go.jp] [link to www2.nict.go.jp] [link to www2.nict.go.jp] [link to www2.nict.go.jp] [link to www2.nict.go.jp] |
Plasmare User ID: 1066790 Australia 09/26/2011 09:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Now that´s more like it... Still low though. You know, I think they are using an averaging calculation to generate the second image (PRESSURE) That´s the only explanation I can give for going from 0 to current pressure readings. In any case to all you who say that the Magnetospere is "gone", that is incorrect. It is there and was always there. The only missing data were the pressure data. (sun impact on the shield). The shield is up and running - stand down. The only puzzling thing about the readouts is the low values of pressure. Hence I suspect this to be calculated data using averaging algorythms. That would explain it. If that is a correct assumtion the pressure display datawill keep rising steadily over the next few hours. Usually if there is no data being sent from ACE everything flatlines. The cause of the density spike seems to be from the glancing CME; GEOMAGNETIC STORM WARNING: A pair of closely-spaced CMEs propelled by explosions of sunspot AR1302 on Sept. 24th are heading not-quite directly toward Earth. A significant glancing blow to our planet's magnetic field is possible on Sept. 26th around 14:00 UT (+/- 7 hours). NOAA forecasters estimate a ~25% chance of geomagnetic storms when the clouds arrive. [link to spaceweather.com] [link to www2.nict.go.jp] This is when the CME hit. Pretty accurate prediction considering. |

More detailed and fluid. This is great. Quoting: Plasmare This would support my theory that they are using an averaging algorythm now. See my previous posts. We should see a steady increase in pressure in the coming hours until such time there are sufficient pressure readings to show a clear picture of overall current pressure. The thing is with this new model I would expect not to see spikes when they occur. (which is a pity because it is just these spikes that are the most interesting, especially the coming days with all the celestial activity going on). My two pesetas. |

Those anomalous spikes which were not caused by any activity by the sun were the most interesting thing about the sim... We'll see during any further low activity periods, just need to watch it when there are no flares or CMEs heading our way. If there will be any more low activity periods... |

Plasmare User ID: 1066790 Australia 09/26/2011 09:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If these bands start tightening up around the earth, I think the chance of us having a major geological event today or tomorrow. Quoting: hitlikeatrain 1752217 Increased solar activity does seem to correlate to geological events. Not all the time... It's a little more complex than straight forward cause and effect. I think maybe it has to do with the global energy budget of the Earth and the amount of energy the atmosphere and the planet is able to "absorb" at the magnetic poles. Sometimes intense storms are associated with major Earth activity and sometimes they're not. All I know is I tend to dream a lot more during periods of intense geomagnetic activity. And there is actually evidence for such a phenomena of the magnetic field affecting dreams. [link to www.newscientist.com] Looking for an explanation for recurring nightmares of leaving the house without your trousers on or losing your teeth? New research suggests you can blame the Earth's magnetic field, rather than a repressed childhood. Darren Lipnicki, a psychologist formerly at the Center for Space Medicine in Berlin, Germany, found a correlation between the bizarreness of his dreams, recorded over eight years, and extremes in local geomagnetic activity. Other studies have tied low geomagnetic activity to increases in the production of the melatonin, a potent hormone that helps set the body's circadian clock. So, based on anecdotal evidence that melatonin supplements used as a sleeping aid can cause off-kilter dreams, Lipnicki wondered whether local magnetic fields could induce the same effects. *snip* Lipnicki looked up daily geomagnetic activity in Perth, Australia – his home at the time. A scale called the k-index quantifies local geomagnetic activity, and he included only days that scored on the extremes of this index. This whittled his dream log down to 66 days of low geomagnetic activity and 70 days of high activity. Using these figures, Lipnicki uncovered a statistical correlation between dream bizarreness and geomagnetic activity, with freakier dreams occurring on days with the least geomagnetic activity.
