Finer points are needed for any clear discussion. Shotguns, hunting/game rifles, home defense gear are common sense and anyone in their right mind would search out the all-important definitions, which right now there are none.

Personally I don't own a gun. But if there be indications that are clear it would be necessary because we can see the exact nature of it, I would find a way to have alternative means that ensure privacy in having reasonable home defense or for small game.

I like where your going with this however I think if your argument were true for guns, it would also be true for vehicles. Almost every household has one, they can kill and do severe damage. Yet so many people grow up without respect for the vehicle, without knowing the importance of owning one and without caring about the safety of driving one.
