Anonymous Coward User ID: 21716664 Germany 08/11/2012 05:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | First off let me say I like guns, I always have. Even before I knew how they worked, I wanted to make them work. This - unbeknownst to many - is not a sin. I'm sure you're thinking I wanted to have power that I didn't have when I was a young child wondering about a gun. That is incorrect. I wanted to know for the joy of knowing. It made me happy. It was interesting. How did this thing launch a projectile???? I wanted to grasp it. Quoting: tin foil hat off Beyond that, and to reality... Why are you afraid of lawful gun ownership, when illegal guns are what you really fear. The argument of "gun control" makes no sense to me when a criminal will always have a gun available. Or, he will have a knife, chainsaw, etc, and at worst case may have five friends to hold you down while he does God knows what to you, or your children or wife. I do not understand the movement of gun control, unless I assume it is being used against "We the People". From that evil context of taking our power as We the People, springs the only time your ideas of gun control make sense. Who's side are you on? Legal gun ownership! The teeth of the people against tyranny. Wasn´t one of the first thing Hilter did when he came to power, was to take away citizens rights to own a weapon? Most people who are for gun control have no understanding why it was placed as a right in the constitution. Because of the random psycho (mind controlled or not) they believe gun control will stop such horrible crimes. Even a car can be a weapon. Here in Germany you often hear (on the radio) of "ghost drivers" who for whatever reason drive on the wrong side of the highway. The motive may be for the most part suicide, but in doing so these individuals hurt and kill others. Should we give up collectively our right to drive a vehicle because other individuals commit such horrible acts? Could all people be convinced to give up their rights to own and drive a vehicle based on the misguided acts of a few? This isn´t about saving lives and having a more peaceful existence with another - it is about control. |

So, regardless of one's excuse for taking another's life or health, would you rather increase your odds that something like that might happen to you or your family by agreeing to disarm yourself and most anyone else that might help you, or do you anticipate the government that disarms you and I to protect you from that reality every moment for the rest of your life. If the latter, you are truly naive, and likely a bit off your rocker. Within the surreal depths of "reality" lies the truth. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18665062 I have a hard time grasping the idea of someone being free, yet needing a gun to protect themselves against other american citizens. That is true, guns can be used for violence. That is generally, although not exclusively what they exist for. Your crazy neighbor can also stab you to death, he can run over you with his GREEN conscious car. He, or she for that matter, could sneak in your house while you are gone and pour poison into your food. If my friend you consider that criminals will always possess the best ways of killing us honest folk, why would I settle for a pocket knife when my enemy will have a 9MM? Or, he will - as I said before - have five friends to beat you down and laugh while he rapes your daughter in front of you. If you think outlawing legal guns for citizens would keep guns out of the hands of criminals, just look to our government and Mexico for your answer. Guns will never go away. By design, bad people don't follow laws so they will always have a gun available for the right price. You will not if gun laws change. Think of your daughter, wife, sister. Study history, or STFU! Anonymous Coward User ID: 21716664 Germany 08/11/2012 06:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is pinned. Where is everyone? Switzerland has one of the highest militia gun ownership rates in the world. In recent times political opposition has expressed a desire for tighter gun regulations. A referendum in February 2011 rejected stricter gun control. [link to en.wikipedia.org] Police statistics for the year 2006[14] records 34 killings or attempted killings involving firearms, compared to 69 cases involving bladed weapons and 16 cases of unarmed assault. Cases of assault resulting in bodily harm numbered 89 (firearms) and 526 (bladed weapons). As of 2007, Switzerland had a population of about 7,600,000. This would put the rate of killings or attempted killings with firearms at about one for every quarter million residents yearly. This represents a decline of aggravated assaults involving firearms since the early 1990s. [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21747712 One - they're fun to shoot if you're a gun lover. Two - assuming legal (and sane) ownership, what the hell is the difference. Why the hell do some people buy any more car than a Hyundai? Why do you buy designer clothes over the shit they sell at Walmart? Could go on, but you get the picture. Three - those that may wish us harm in the (near) future could have much more dangerous guns and defenses than a mere handgun or hunting rifle could counter. As long as lawful people own something similar, or at least effective, those in the future will remain safer - because most of the evil that wish to control or harm are true cowards at heart. So, as long as someone evil knows the deterrent exists, they typically won't try. If I had my way, I'd make it a requirement that every law abiding citizen of age own and train annually with a heavy caliber and properly equipped assault rifle. They are a lot more fun then old flintlock smooth bores of old, or we can just go back to rubbing two sticks together to create fire? For two, if the people kicking in your door have had months to plan what illegal weapon they wish to bring to your door crashing party, you might want a repeating rifle with a large caliber and a high capacity magazine to meet that threat. That would be my personal preference anyway. I know, I know I'm a weirdo. The long and short of this is that the technology is out there. Ever heard of computer viruses?
