Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
Trink - March 13 sounds like a winner. A target date worked for me and allowed me to gear-up and make it real. I smoked like a madman the night before I put the smokes down. As CHL wrote, if you really want to quit you can. You can do it. You will do it.

The wild card for me was coming here. Other actions I took worked in tandem to facilitate the quit, but it was coming to this thread and talking/listening/writing/reading/learning that made the difference. I didn't feel isolated in my quit. There was a wonderful collective will at work. It carried me day to day.

I hope you avail yourself of this thread and let the people here give you the same support I received. You deserve it.

Will be looking for you over the next few days and, in particular, on the eve of your quit Tuesday night (and, of course, again on Wednesday, March 13).

If you got 'em, smoke 'em now, Trink. And while it may seem hard to believe this evening, next Sunday at this time you'll have passed through the physical detox of the first 72 hours. And more. This time next week, you'll be firmly on your way to a life free of the toxic sticks. A new beginning. A fresh start.

Glad you're with us.

Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
Hi Everyone,

Been following this thread since it started. I have been a smoker for 35 years. I am still a smoker and have decided that I will become a non-smoker on 3-13-13.

I am nervous however I need to let it go. I have quit before for 3 weeks on Chantix, then I had to stop the meds as it was eating my stomach lining, started smoking the same day I quit the meds. I have been hypnotized 3 times, never worked on me. I have read Allen Carr's books both the original and the one for women, still smoking.

I am open to any suggestions to help me make this happen this time.

Thank you to all who are on this thread and the work you do to help us all be and stay non-smokers.

hf

Much Love,

Excellent number choice which is a good first step - mine was 1-1-13.

My suggestions would be:

Go back at least 60 pages and read to the most present post. You will find excellent suggestions from recent posters who have quit within varying degrees in the last 300 days.

Then...just do it. Dive in and just do it.

The question you need to ask yourself is, "do I want to quit" and obviously if you answer anything but yes, you are not going to have success.

That being said, everyone is different but the common denominator is that if you want to, the COLD TURKEY is the only way

And this thread, accourse ;)

Thank you!

I am doing this post with your replies so that any day that I may have a bump in the road I can find this post to be reminded of the intent I have to quit and the wonderful replies you all gave me.

I will be riding this wave through this thread that is for sure.

Much Love,

EDIT TO ADD: I quit commercial cigs in Dec 2012, went through a 4 day detox. I still want to go all the way. Hoping that detoxing from natural cigs will be a bit easier.

My quit date - 3/3/13.

Thanks to this thread, Easyway and my finally having had enough I have made it 8 days today.

This is the longest I have gone without a cigarette since 1975.

So far, so good.

flowas to all the quitters that inspired me to join them and become a quitter myself.

Good to see you, Canada. Eight Days! Great congratulations to you.

So happy for you. You did it and are doing it. Wonderful, wonderful news.

Since 1975. Wow. You survived the smokes and the rise of disco!

An inferno. A disco inferno.

Tomorrow at work, just to celebrate day nine of freedom, start singing,

"Shake, shake, shake,
Shake, shake, shake,
Shake your booty,
Shake your booty!" as loud as you can while slinging what your Momma gave you. Afterward, ask your co-workers to start calling you 'KC.'

You're gonna be popular and smoke-free.

Congratulations and keep coming back here.

All best to you.

Not sure when I last contributed to this thread but I'M STILL SMOKE FREE! It was cold turkey for me. Kept trying over and over then I just stopped. My advice, keep trying, over and over, don't stop trying. It'll take eventually. All the best to anyone trying to quit. It is way worth it it. Expect to feel a little sickly for a bit though as your body expels all the poisons, this is good, including coughing a lot, this is good too and to be expected.

Thanks!

It all seems rather silly now, the mountain of smokes I have puffed my way though since '74.

What was I thinking???

Instead I'll take your advise and...

Shake, shake, shake.

butt lol

This thread changed my life, for that I am truly grateful.

DONT QUIT!!!
you have a higher chance of dieing prematurely if you stop because your body is so used to the nicotine if it doesnt get it you will get sick alot more and probably die of cancer, 85% of quitters die of cancer but only 5% of smokers die of some sort of cancer.
If you quit you are signing your death certificate!!!!

With the zio controlled US satanic government about to release multiple lab created flu viruses it explains totally why the gov is anti smoking.

The viruses will only kill NON smokers.

"During the ‘Great Plague of London’, which was part of the same Eurasian pandemic that began with the ‘Black Death’ 400 years earlier, 100,000 people or 20% of the population of London died. Strangely, authorities are said to have kept fires burning night and day, in the hopes that the air would be cleansed. This usual tactic may have been inspired by a very common belief among the ordinary folk at the time. According to one A J Bell writing in about 1700:

“For personal disinfections nothing enjoyed such favour as tobacco; the belief in it was widespread, and even children were made to light up a reaf in pipes. Thomas Hearnes remembers one Tom Rogers telling him that when he was a scholar at Eton in the year that the great plague raged, all the boys smoked in school by order, and that he was never whipped so much in his life as he was one morning for not smoking. It was long afterwards a tradition that none who kept a tobacconist shop in London had the plague.”

This doesn’t seem to be such a crazy idea, given that a protective plague vaccine has recently been discovered in tobacco.Indeed, tobacco has been known and used for centuries for a wide range of medical problems.

In the year 1500, for example, a Portuguese explorer in Brazil, Pedro Alvarez Cabral, reported the use of the herb betum [tobacco] for treating ulcerated abscesses, fistulas, sores, inveterate polyps and many other ailments1. In 1529, a Spanish missionary priest, Bernadino de Sahagun, collected information from four Mexican physicians about use of tobacco for medicinal purposes. He recorded that breathing the odour of fresh green leaves of the plant relieved persistent headaches. For colds and catarrh, green or powdered leaves should be rubbed around inside the mouth. Diseases of glands in the neck could be cured by cutting out the root of the lesion and placing on it crushed tobacco plant hot and mixed with salt, on the same spot.2

In 1934 Fernando Ocaranza summed up the medicinal uses of tobacco in Mexico before 1519 as antidiarrhoeal, narcotic and emollient; he said that tobacco leaves were applied for the relief of pain, used in powdered form for the relief of catarrh and applied locally to heal wounds and burns.

The fact that tobacco, including the inhalation of tobacco leaf smoke, has been known and used for centuries as a cure for many diseases, including the plague, leaves us wondering how we ever got to the point today where smoking is so thoroughly demonised, in particular by governments. With NASA et al seemingly deeply concerned about ‘near earth’ comets and asteroids, the evidence for plague-bearing comets and asteroids having devastated humanity in the past, and the possibility that tobacco contains a vaccine for the plague, it seems a little disingenuous (not to mention suspicious) that smoking cigarettes is being touted as the fastest way to an early grave, despite the evidence to the contrary."

Are you fricken kidding me.

After smoking 38 years, my lungs were shutting down.
I hacked and coughed up a lung with each cigarette.
My sinuses were always giving me problems and I could not breathe.

Emphysema was in my future.

And yet, I continued lighting up, day after day, 640 cigs a month, 7680 cigs a year to the tune of over $4,000/yr.

This thread lured me in, the title popping up on the front page every day or so.
Finally, I took the plunge and read the thread, got inspired.
Read the Easyway book in the link and now I am 9 days smoke free.

I am thankful every day I do not smoke, thankful for the support this thread has provided. Thankful to be a quitter.

Every day I come to the thread, read and bolster my resolve to never, ever, ever get back together with cigs.

To Salt, I'm only at day 9, but I hear you.

This weekend was a test of my strength, I longed for a cig but kept reminding myself why I let them go.

Hang in there Salt!! I'll put in a request to the big Kahuna in the sky to give you strength to let them go.

Is there something in your heart that seeks to undermine the determination to heal ones body in the free will way they choose?

Your wise enough to know the various healing remedies and folklore - so you are wise enough to know that you are passively aggressively seeking (consciously or unconsciously) to undermine those who seek to heal their bodies and lungs from tobacco/nicotine abuse and overuse.

The fact that you could humble yourself and ask for support means you will make it today.

For me cig smoking covered up things I did not want to look at and by suppressing thoughts-emotions that I did not want to deal with - then I began abusing myself to not feel and think.

Now that I am clean - that which I did not deal with is coming back fast and furious. For me it is boundary issues with people.

I find journaling helps and talking with others.

Aslo, nicotine is a central nervous system stimulant. Its use affected how the nerves responded and blood sugar levels to 'living life on life's terms". So healing (repairing the nervous system - either through diet, exercise or herbs) is necessary.

In my prayer I sent love and support from my heart to yours.

Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
Hi Salt - I had no idea about your loss. It's so strange how we never know the full experience of another. If I cared for you before, I do so now with a new, and even greater, appreciation. Always considered you a tough cookie, but in my experience the tougher the person the deeper the depth of their feeling.

You're a lovely, lovely person, Salt. So bright, direct, and strong. I also know you to be gentle and that it takes great strenght to be gentle. Especially to ourselves.

This is the time you've chosen to put down the smokes. Three months now. I'm certain this decision is impacted, in part and whole depending on the day, by the truths that form your faith. I know I don't have to tell you that God is nearer to you than the breath in your nostrils. Don't have to tell you that God is madly, wildly, in love with you. You know these things and more.

Nothing happens in God's world by mistake. So today is today. Salt is Salt, Just right for today, If time allows this afternoon, get quiet and listen to that hum of the fridge. Take no thought. Just listen to the fridge (now, if the fridge tells you to drive-up the mountain naked singing "The hills are alive with the sound of music" holding a sign out the driverside window that reads, "I'm Julie Andrews, Ask Me a Question!" unplug the fridge and pray) and see what comes. Take no thought (just extra blankets..just saying).

Thanks for letting us get to know you a little better today. You gave us all a gift. A piece of your heart. Friends can't hope for more. And that's what you have in this group here, Salt. Friends. Don't have to do it alone. Plenty ready to extend a hand and take a walk together. You've become a person I look for here. Someone important to me. And I thank you for that.

Keep us posted. Together we can do what we can't do alone.

Salt - Following-up. How goes it? Thinking about you and sending all good thoughts your way. Moved me incredibly today. Gracias, amiga.

Canada - Day Nine almost in the books (and you've got a lot of wisdom to share - so very glad you're here). Double digits for you tomorow.

CHL, DesFox (in the sun watching manatees) and OneLove. All rock steady.

Brother Hawk - probably heading to the gym after work with five weeks and a day under the belt.

Oddballs, Cat, Jasper, Merci, Marsue, Riggs, Mr. Norris, Sleeping Giant, and soon Tiny T doing it well.

Grumps, calling hedges of angels to you wherever you are, Think of you often, miss you, and know you're reading (you didn't bite with the Alex and Tatyanna riff....gotta get-up pretty early to pull the Grumps back from her self-imposed exile). Come back, little Sheeba.

DangerWalt - Seen in other threads. Hope this finds you well and smoke-free.

And all the others new and old, thank you for adding to this life of hope and freedom from the poison toxic sticks.

Funky Kingston. Got to believe in your soul!

Biscuits and Gravy and Nika too. I'm smoke-free and so are you.

If I missed anyone else, not intentional. Just a knucklehead on this end.

I can't, OneLove, I'm happy if I can get water out of the faucet.

That said, Toots has the juice and has been doing it for years.

Toots and Roots (there's a version where Bootsy Collins of Funkadelic fame joins on Funky Kingston and it is a con-funk-shun-junction of the soul.

Best to you, my friend.

well, after spending the morning face down on the floor with my hands on the horns of the altar of God weeping like a broken woman and purging prayers like i was pulling demons the size of basketballs out of my nostrils, i think i feel much better.

being human sucks. this vulnerability wants to kick my ass. i feel like i don't have any skin on and somebody has stolen the floor.

the good news is, this too shall pass.

and how are you? you are always so encouraging for all of us. what's happening in your corner of the room?

random tidbit: anybody thinking of taking Lexapro, i warn against it. it is the most evil thing i have ever experienced.
