I think it's a bunch of bullshit how people think banning guns will really make a difference in a country that has had them so for long. Right now I currently live in Germany, I've SEEN people with guns -- They get them from Czech. Banning our guns it just a further step in taking our rights away. You take away one amendment "because its safer for America" and the next will be taken because the Government says so. Go ahead and agree with these communist fucks and let the snowball effect begin. It's your funeral.rant

This guy's an idiot. I grew up in the Gi Joe, Transformers era. Watched all the violent 80's action movies, saw the Faces of Death series, played shoot-em up video games and I have no intention of killing anyone.

These governors always look for a scapegoat when something like this happens.

Re: Colorado governor points to VIOLENCE in VIDEO GAMES
Of coarse, just something else to blame.

Video games have been getting progressively dumber over the years to maximize playability. Players get caught in a sort of repetitive feedback loop.

Games are no more violent than they where 10 years ago, but they don't offer the same challenge.

It is not the violence it is the repetition and lack of objective.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18069765

That's because the big game companies don't like to take risks anymore with games. The managers, marketers and developers don't want to be on a team with a game that flops. So what do they do? They take the same successful games and regurgitate them over and over because it's less risk for the developer and management. The game may or may not do as great as the previous, but at least it won't be a big flop and they won't get fired for doing it.

This is not just happening in the game world, this is happening everywhere and it's costing us huge in technology. No one wants to invest into anything revolutionary because it's too much risk now. And quite sadly, the only big risk takers now is China who are actually starting to surpass everyone in technology. Get rid of or limit all these lawyers and law schools who demand millions of dollars for one tiny mistake and we may have a chance again, otherwise we are screwed.

Mental health is the core issue here, not guns, games and movies.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26997426

Mental health is not even the issue. Bad Drugs for use in treating mental health issues is the issue.

Pull the 'its all a mental health problem' thing going around, and before long the place will be like old Soviet Russia, the political dissident is 'mentally insane' so we have to put them in a 'hospital' and through away the key.

And since the Psychiatry now has labeled all humans to have one form of mental illness or another, it just makes it that much easier for the governments to very selectively snatch the ones they want to be disappeared... anyone they don't like.

Its these particular damned DRUGS people.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30123521

My husband--pancreatic attacks started at 14 years old--he started drinking when he was 13.

Lost his driving license numerous times, almost died twice as a result of auto accidents caused by his drinking.

More pancreatic attacks led to him taking painkillers.

Now, it's not just alcohol, it's drugs too.

He was not a Christian, I did not know him during this time
.
Fast forward a few years, he becomes a Christian.

Stops his drinking, still smoked cigarettes and on occasion, had to take painkillers for pancreatic attacks.

We met, we marry.

First year of marriage--major operation for cysts on his pancreas.

After first 5 years of marriage, he has a drink.

Tried to stop, but couldn't.

Drinking caused much friction in our marriage, more illness and more addictions.

Eventually, he died on the operating table during his liver transplant--he had cirrhosis.

My father--started drinking very young.

Won't get into all the history, but he died one year before his retirement.

Alcohol, drugs and stress--lethal combination that took his life.

Uncle died of alcohol poisoning.
Aunt died during heart transplant--she was an alcoholic.
Another uncle died--he was homeless and found in the woods with a bottle of booze in his hand.

My family life is filled with painful stories all related to the ill effects of alcohol.
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task
the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:24

"This man really is the Savior of the world!" John 4:42

Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him;
and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.

Re: Colorado governor points to VIOLENCE in VIDEO GAMES
I know it has been said already, but just to add some weight, I too believe, quite strongly that children are missing moral instruction from their parents. A parent should be home for the children. I manage to do it and not without sacrifice, but I believe it to be the one best thing I have done for my husband and children.

My daughter attends a public school and along with the minimum education she has gotten from there, she has also learned that some people are really awful, intolerant and ignorant. She has seen a young man dry hump a desk, people bullied and hurt. Unfortunately I draw the line at being home for my family, I don't know if I have it in me to homeschool. But, man I hate sending her off to school everyday.

Keeping up with the Jones and aquiring wealth is not nearly as important as raising healthy, intelligent chidren. Look at the world now and tell me that isn't the truth. I am old fashioned, I know, but Mothers.....stay with your children!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29951582

You work 8 hours a day, perhaps, and sleep 8 hours a day, so what DO you do with your time the other 8 hours? Somepeople use 4 to 5 of those 'extra' hours to home school their own children. Not everyone has it in them to homeschool, which is the reason that thousands of years ago people hired teachers and tutors, and formed collectives called schools so they collectively could use intelligent smart, and skilled teachers to teach their children, and share the cost of that teachers wages among the families sending their children to that teacher. Private or Public or Parochial schooling has been around for a very very long time... simply because there are in fact only so many hours in a day.

One of my great aunts was one of the last single room school houses k-12 in my State. She had only 30 students total. in a one room school house. 90% went on and obtained their advanced degrees in colleges and universities.

Our Schools are now way too fucking big.

Nope. Can't believe it. Here's why.

Before there was all of this kid on kid crime, the parent was removed from the home and from being able to discipline the child. This is where it started. No guidance, no rules, no oversight of the child's morality from parents, or the community. The Government raises our children these days.

Except for the few, like you, Koffee, who understand the role of good parenting.

I have not read through the thread...But I had to stop on page one to respond to Eireann.

BRAVO!!! You hit the nail on the head. Society forced mom's out of the home and into the work force leaving children to fend for themselves or to be raised by strangers.

Then they took away recess, gym, and music in order to produce the student grades needed for federal funding. They immunized our kids with poison creating autistic spectrum disorders. Then they turn around and medicate them creating a life of drug dependency. Its a vicious cycle.

My personal experience with they system is...When my daughter was in kindergarten they said she was ADD and needed medication. OVER MY DEAD BODY! I told them that there was nothing wrong with my child, she was brilliant and bored in school. The teachers were not challenging her so she created havoc in order to entertain herself. I had her IQ tested (Wechsler IQ for children) and the results came back she had an IQ of...162!!!

From that day forward she was put into gifted programs and through my insistence, was kept challenged throughout her entire education. She graduated from college with honors and has gone onto become very successful in her career.

This is a kid that the "system" said had ADD and wanted to medicate!

Parents need to ask more questions, stand up for your children, buck the system and stop letting the so called "experts" run your life and destroy your children's lives.

Tragedies like this are the result of a failed society. Until you all change your hateful, judgmental, tyrannical ways you will face their wrath. You brought this upon yourselves.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19588417

Moreover violent video games have nothing to do with it, it's just a scapegoat so you can avoid the real problem. You're the problem.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19588417

When we where kids, back in the 1950s... we didn't have video games.

Nah, we watched TV and Movies and we watch Cowboy and Indian, and WWII combat movies.

WE then after our alloted 1 hour a day TV or a once a month movie at the theaters, we went outside to play.

We used sun dried clods for stones, sticks for swords, shields out of plywood scraps, buckets for helmets.. use used short two by fours for rifles, we made bows and dull 'arrows', and wooden knifes. We had battles on the hills, the forests, the grass field, the roads... we had mock wars... and people got hurt, knots on heads, skinned knees and arms, dirt in the eyes, bruises. We learned it hurts.

Later on in the 1960s some of those 1950s went to real War.. some died come back alive, some have never come back. Many of them had been Drafted.

PinGun is pussified compared to what we kids did as 'war games' in the 1950s and early 60s.

But I sit as nearly a 60 year old guy now, watching this teenage and pre-teen grandkids playing their Violent Video games and see how focused in, how mesmerized they are, how hypnotized they are -- and I see kids that are removed from reality of physical HURT. I see these kids killing real people on video screens running lethal air-drones, and land robot drones.. thinking it is all a game.

Yet, most of them if you drop a book on the hard-floor behind them will almost shit their pants.

Oh, we didn't have SSRI's back then. Psychos went to the Pysch-wards and rarely were ever seen again.

Legal Drugs kill thousands upon thousands of people in the USA, likely Millions in the world every year... and that is not because of Violent Video Games... its because of Sorcery called Pharmaceuticals in the hands of mega profit, mega corporations and backed by their Stock Holders holding Shares on Wall St.

Violent video games and a "culture of violence" found in the media could be contributing factors to mass shootings, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said Sunday.

"There might well be some direct connection between people who have some mental instability
and when they go over the edge - they transport themselves, they become part of one of those video games," Hickenlooper said on CNN's "State of the Union." "Perhaps that's why all these assault weapons are used."

The Democratic governor argued that some gun regulations need to be tweaked but said more immediate changes can take place by targeting mental health.

Why do game's always get flamed.. why not films they are far more graphic.. why not the media for showing violence and war on tv??

We all know video games has abso-fucking-lutely nothing to do with the fact that these people are unstable and violent to begin with. In fact, I would not be surprised to learn about more violence from NFL players than video gamers...

Who came up with that asinine slogan anyway: "Taking God out of the Schools".. must not have been a Believer in the one true Almighty God that made up that catch phase. WHere the Almighty God is concerned, no one, absolutely no one, has any ability what so ever to keep Him out of what ever He wants to being in.. You all much have some weird ideas of what an Almighty Creator God is all about. You' all would so limit the shear power of such a being by your puny imaginations that you could keep Spirit out of things?

Besides, its the individual person himself that would be the one trying to 'take God out of their own life and heart'. There is no way in hell or heaven that anyone else even can begin to put that distance there.

I have two Christian sons who have played these games in the past. On occasion, they still do now.

One is fine when he plays, the other can become aggressive, angry and curse--so much cursing from a mouth that suppose to belong to God.

We've had many arguments over him playing this one specific game that always brings out the worst in him. He realizes it now and stays away from that game.

If they have a temper that comes out while playing a video game, then they have a temper period. Something else will likely set it off if they can't even deal with losing on Call of Duty. Maybe the games could be help them learn patience.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30018099

Truth time. I have to admit I have anger spikes in the player vs player matches sometimes, but here's something interesting: In the co-op matches I have no anger, in fact I have nothing but love for my fellow team mates and a want to perform my best for the team and cover their backs in taking out the enemy.

Maybe what's needed is a shift in the gaming industry from PVP to co-op?
 Quoting: Leslie Zevo

Its starting to go that way, yea, much more like the Paint Ball 'war games' and Air Gun.. Team work... but there is still that lack of what we did in the 1950s, Video Gamer players don't get physically HURT except for banging their tables and keyboards.. unlike what happens in the ole 'war games play' we kids did back in the 1950s or those that do the Paint-Gun or Air-soft gun team vs team play.

Re: Colorado governor points to VIOLENCE in VIDEO GAMES
Adults (that are not mentally ill) have a developed enough brain to distinguish fantasy from reality. That's not really the problem here. The problem lies in parents wanting an easy way out because they work 2 or 3 jobs just to have a standard of living anymore; so they let simulated violence in video games babysit and raise their kids for them.

If they actually wanted to solve this issue, they'd address the hyperinflation that makes 2 parents working a job or two necessary just to feed their kids. They'd reinforce the traditional family value that a parent stays at home to teach morals and cook good food.

Heck, my SO has a pretty good job and can probably keep it up; but just to be able to buy healthy food for our eventual kids at these insane prices will require that I also have a decent career. I'd love nothing more than to be a housewife, but I can't.

They paint Feminism with the brush that the main tenant of it is a woman having a societal career, and anything less is dehumanizing these poor, oppressed victims that would otherwise be pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen. This means I get called misogynist by my 20 something year old female friends that insist, "I AIN'T NO BABY INCUBATOR" when I merely inform them that yes, that is their biological function, whether they like it or not. They scream this label at me as I try to explain that society is making pregnancy and childbirth look like some point in your life where, "Everything is ruined!" They call me a misogynist just for expressing that I'd like to be a housewife, and here I thought feminism was about choice and empowering women! We certainly won't do that by completely ignoring our biological and social functions as mothers.

These are the kind of women who grow up to go to college, have a career, and despite their insistence they aren't babymakers and never will be, biology inevitably catches up with them. They want to care for their children and they want to do good for them, but society and the tenants of modern feminism has completely left them in the dark about such knowledge. So instead, these women, often not unfamiliar with video games themselves, find no problem with an electronic babysitter. Easy peasy.

Some of the kids today find this things cool and normal now, when I was a kid seeing someone die in a movie disturbed me, now I see people like my little cousins which are 9 and 8 seeing this things and they don't get disturbed but might actually laugh or find it cool. wtf

look at this mess some of this kids have become all greedy and disobedient, if that was me my parents would of whoop my donkey.

Re: Colorado governor points to VIOLENCE in VIDEO GAMES
What about movies and The Programming Machine (T.V) ??

Yes, and what about doctor-prescribed medication? That can mess up one's mind, too.

This.

This is what the media is glossing over in this story. The only references to mental illness and medication is to say that sometimes they don't stay on their medication, as if THAT could cause a problem, but being ON the medication is ONLY a positive. Guess again...

Re: Colorado governor points to VIOLENCE in VIDEO GAMES
Well most video games, movies, and music today are all about killing, drugs, and sex.

These "games" are pure evil, designed by satan to corrupt the minds and souls of young people.

Humanity has been always violent..there is no need to blame videos games, books and movies..communists and nazis didnt need video games to commit terrible deeds...Healthy minded individual knows difference between reality and virtual reality

Children have minds that are not fully developed yet, they are being formed. They are influenced by these games, music and movies that are designed by satan to corrupt thinking.

This is just a fact. Satan controls the entertainment industry and letting our youth kill people in video games as a form of entertainment is extremely destructive and evil and it desensitizes them to the horrors of violence.

It chips away at values and what is decent and right. The average american kid is a mess, just visit the public high or middle schools and they are full of punks that disrespect adults, have no respect for authority and what is decent.

Sorry, it's the truth. Kids stand no chance while parents feed them violence and degradation as entertainment in the home 24/7. It's a pity.

What were Adam and Eve doing about Cain and Able? Where did they mess up Cain and end up getting a dead son? Oh, that's right...

Think brother, think.

he is bitching about videogames, but he is forgetting one major thing:
videogames are the best training for a drone controller

Only a part of that, not the most important part either.
