Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24545480 These people need to work. If they cannot work then their family needs o support them. It is as simply as that. No more handouts. No more free ride. Hey dip How is SS a handout? You stupid idiot! We paid with our hard earned money for this.. It's our money u stupid F*** I think that Social Security should only pay back what people have paid in with interest.Once they draw or receive that much medical costs then cut them off.Majority would only draw a couple years at most. Excellent suggestion. Yep because after they have received what they paid in with interest it becomes welfare.I dont care how you look at it. Really pisses me off to hear all the put downs from that generation about what others get because after all THEY worked and paid in all their life.Yes they did and they deserve what they paid in with interest and THATS ALL. Most are clueless as to how much they cost the system and how much they use the system.Even if they only live 5 years and draw $2000 monthly thats $120,000 cash benefits. Can only imagine what monthly medical costs are for most.At least that much or more in those 5 years time in many cases way more.So thats $240,000 for 5 years.A lot live way more than 5 years after retiring and receive higher amounts.Medical costs alone eat up way more than 99% ever paid in not counting any cash benefits. But they dont want to hear that and refuse to add up what they cost over and above what they could have paid in.It welfare plain and simple. |

Vest them and let them beginning collecting at 67 like the rest of us. Then, don't offer such programs for new hires and let them get SS when they are elderly like everyone else. Use the surplus gained from this to help fund SS. Next, they need to immediately raise the retirement age to 70. Seventy isn't old and feeble today unless you didn't take care of yourself. Then, they need to charge a surcharge on life-style related health issues. Why are we supplementing fat old people's alcohol issues, heart care, type II diabetes? |

Do you really want that $60 a week you paid in? :P If I could have had the $60 a week I paid in, plus the $60 the employer paid in, and invested it for the 50 years that I worked, Yeah, I want it. Hell why not ask for at least 10% and tell us where to invest to get 7% |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27972246 United States 12/23/2012 03:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The reason these a-hole hate social security is because the business matches the taxes you pay into the system. Quoting: TSWB21 Just a heads up.Business dont match shit on food stamps. So if i had to guess why the remove ss is being pushed so hard is because business's dont like to pay the tax. From my personal ss payments and company's matching over the years i have paid in about 80k. $40k of personal money and 40k the company's have paid. Its all about business and profit. its not a handout . you will never get the money back you paid in. But they have many people that are getting ss disability insurance that didnt ever work . You paid in 40K.. are you now down paying in..? Okay. So, just for the audience and an example... lets say you are now starting on your first day of retirement... and the only income you will have its your social security income. Lets say you are 65 y.o.a. How long you gonna live on $40K if that is your only 'stash and income' and without any further other income? Let's think of your retirement-income as if it is a minimum wage being paid out of $7.50/hour for 40 hours per week = $300/wk. $40,000/$300.00 = 133.33r weeks. At 52 weeks a year, 2.56 years. So by 133.33 weeks your fund of $40K would be ZERO. Even with your employer doubling that, you are at ZERO in your fund at the 5.12 year point. Without some form of Leverage, you know you will be out of funds in 5.12 years even if you have restrained your lifestyle to that which minimum wage people are trying to live on, cheap rented house, or rented room and board a single room of a larger house, roomates, cheap low cost car with low gas mileage that might be enough to just get around town with very few trips out of two but twice or once a year, cheap food, cheap clothing -- a year or five behind the curve in all the fun electric gadgets and games, using a PrePaid track fone, and paying very close attention how long you talk each time, watching the make and model of the cheap bread you buy doubling in price every six months. Without further leverage you are only going to make it a little over five years, and your Fund will be ZERO... and Homeless, cold (or way way too hot), and very hungry. But tell me poster, how is it that you said one will not every get back all they put into Social Security? I can see if they die before their 'time'. But hey, I have shown you how it is extremely easy to get all you in your case can expect to get every 1/10th of a dime you paid into SS. And at the 5 years 3 month point, you then are just like the person who never worked or made a taxable dollar into their entire life.. just like them. Except you GO GET A FUCKING JOB YOU LOSER! How many people are there really that are so disabled that they have NEVER worked and made even a dollar that was taxable? Well? How many? |

Why should they be immune? Realistically, if Grandma and Grandpa had refused to buy cheap foreign-made knock-offs and refused to shop at Walmart and demanded their children do the same, we would still have jobs and mom & pop corner stores. But what would the working man expect, they write the laws to benefit them (DC elected), but what's new. Let's say a business owner works his fricking ass off for years, finally being able to start paying himself, his pay is set at $107,000 per year. Now look at what sits in DC, the elected officials current pay is $174,000 a year, they do not pay SS or Med on $67,000 a year. This is in the neighborhood of $4100 a year. Doesn't sound like much, but to the honest life long worker, it is a hell of a lot. Why is this, they write the laws to benefit themselves, period. Anonymous Coward User ID: 3203344 United States 12/23/2012 04:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Old people have lived through the most prosperous time in our history. The fact that some don't have a savings and rely solely on social security is really their problem - why should people working 60 hours a week and barely feeding their own kids be responsible for these elderly who couldn't be bothered to save for a rainy day. They need to move in with their kids, nieces, and nephews like in the olden days - or deal with being sick and poor. I know that sounds cruel, but this is the reality of our economic times. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7570540 And who was responsible for killing the prosperous times? The Elite. Many so called "old people" had money stolen from their paychecks their whole lives for Social Security while just as many lived out the prosperous times collecting welfare, food stamps, section 8 housing, WIC, and medicaid while everyone else was working. I am 53 and still working in manufacturing watching my purchasing power go down the toilet while millions are still sitting on their asses on the dole with cell phones, internet access and cable TV. Even worse, illegals are flooding into the country to collect their freebies on the U.S.taxpayer. Why don't you people that constantly blame seniors for the problems this country is in look a little deeper at the real problems. Oh did I forget the trillions of dollars that went to idiots who made bad bets on Wall Street. Grow a brain people!!! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 27972246 United States 12/23/2012 04:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I thought I would just mention that SS, if it had been left as it was intended, would still be over funded. That means that we could have reduced the retirement age to 55 by now, and be able to pay about 35k for fully funded retirees. But the Congress in its infinite and far sighted wisdom, allowed the fund to be incorporated into the general budget, the retirement age increased, and the benefits to shrink. Its Congress that makes the laws. They create the fiscal problems that we now face by spending our tax money on programs that earn them votes. Gee why can't everybody see that. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27640901 This much of what you wrote I totally agree with. Its CONGRESS, people, Congress. You know, that 100 U.S Senators, Two of which are supposed to be representing your State and You? You know those 435 U.S. House Represtantives, One of which is supposed to be representing You; as you are only One of the 650,000 other people that same U.S. Rep is supposed to be representing? So You (general 'you', not the posters) have THREE people that you personally can influence or affect... but remember your voice is very small, in the one place you are 1/650,000th of a "voice", in the other place (the Senate) you are one of, well, whatever your State's population is, in my case I am 1/1,800,000th of a voice to my two U.S. Senators. Remember that... and that it is this 535 of Congress that passed the Laws that apply to all of us, all 320+ Million Americans. (yes, these are round numbers) Remember too that your own voice is only one voice of 320+ Million voices. 100+435 = 535, "The 535"... plus the President + Nine US. Supreme Court Justices. That 535+10= "The 545". These 545 govern 320+ Million people. Assuming 320,000,000 and of which the 545 are but 545/320,000,000 or 0.00017% of the US Population. |
