Just Got My Ass Chewed Out At Laundry Mat For Giving A Black Girl Some Change

I was minding my own business putting clothes in a dryer, when a young black girl approached me and asked if she could have a dollar for the bus. Normally, I don't make a habit out of giving money to strangers because I am asked too often and would be broke if I gave to everyone that asked. But it is Christmas Eve and she really looked like she needed it. So I gave her two dollars worth of quarters and wished her good luck.

Then this hispanic older man asked me if I knew "how bad the economy was?" I replied that yes, I was well aware. And then he proceeded to chew me out for giving the girl money. He said I was part of the problem and he was talking really loudly so everyone could hear. I just rolled my eyes and laughed and turned around to finished putting quarters in the machine.

The girl who asked for the money somehow heard this and started saying something to the man, then he began to yell at her telling her that she was probably on welfare and had babies at home she couldn't take care of. Then they yelled some other stuff I couldn't make out to each other.

Before I left, I made sure to wish the man a Merry Christmas.

Me and the girl both made our way out the front door and she looked extremely upset. I told her not to worry about it and some people were just scrooges. She looked like she was going to cry. I felt sorry for her.

Maybe I am part of the problem by giving change when I feel compelled to. But I certainly would hate to live in a world where no one helped anyone else ever. I think we need to help when we feel compelled. And on this Christmas Eve I felt compelled.

Anyway, if that guy thinks the economy is so horrible that you shouldn't give away 2 dollars of your own money as you see fit, then he should probably explain why he is wasting money at a laundry mat instead of hand-washing it in his sink/tub and hanging it up to dry.

That guy is part of the problem. If everyone did what you did we wouldn't have a problem. Some should probably even help more.

I don't know when I started this, but I don't come across people asking for money too often, so when I do I try to give a couple of bucks, sometimes even a 5 if I have it.

People complain about being broke, then you see they have a few vacations a year and go to costly places, have a pool and more house than they really need. And a car that's only a year or two old. But their broke and can't help anyone.

Your thread post is ironic for me; I gave a white man money to get on the bus, a few months ago. I had to go pay my car insurance and when I was getting back into my car in the company's parking lot, he walked over to me and said he was short on change for the bus and asked, very politely, if I could spare some.

I gave him all the money I had in my pocket at the time, which was about seven dollars, and some coins.

A month ago, a white woman rolled up beside me at the gas station and literally begged me to give her some money for gas. She said she had lost her job (downsized out) and had spent her last dime on food, and her tank was on E. I had watched her asked a white man for money before she approached me, and he gave her an impatient look, shook his head no, and drove off. Funny thing was, she didn't look like your typical "beggar"; she was clean and slightly dishevled, but she looked weary. She had a Jersey accent too, which was the first thing I actually noticed (I live in Atlanta).

I told her I wouldn't give her the money, but I would pay for the gas for her, and she looked SO relieved! I felt so sorry for her. The two gas clerks inside (they were from Ethiopia) saw the whole exchange and one was shocked that I put $25 gas in the woman's car because I didn't know her.

I wish I could have bought more for her, but unfortunately I live on a tight budget myself, and was buying twenty-five bucks worth of gas for my own car at the time.

AND, just recently, I was coming off the highway and saw a black man standing on the side of the road, holding a sign that read: I'm hungry. Please help.

So I picked him up, drove to my bank, and withdrew $100 and gave it to him. (I know, I probably shouldn't have let him get into my car, but he looked too tired to do anything but sit there, which is wxactly what he did.)And he was so thankful. After I dropped him off, I cried all the way home...

Trust me: Doing things for others in need ALWAYS returns to you. I'm living proof of that.

im on a networked list - and sent out an offer to feed a few needy families for christmas eve & day.

boxes of prep/trimmings - bakery cakes etc
turkey, ham
lasagna, eggplant parm
veggies, yams-potatoes
drinks

some of the responses i got were an abomination.

some TELLING me, "I hate turkey, better not be turkey, what else do you have?".....then someone replies "ill take the offer but it has to be gluten free" /eyeroll

im like....does my email look like it came from dennys.com?

top it all off........i selected the families.....per their situation. im sure some of them exaggerated.....

few were gracious, thankful and very nice people. *one old woman touched my face - no words, just smiled.

then.....the coal stockings showed......
one cunt shows up - not even a thank you. my kids/i wished her a merry christmas. and all she did was turn her head.

this other woman....who i late added.....shows up driving.....you fuckin ready? a goddamned lincoln navigator!! *my son was a pube away from letting the air out of her rear tire.

It's not a crime, and nobody stated or implied that it is. Hell, I'm poor myself.

That person could do a LOT of things for money: Collect aluminum cans for recycling, donate plasma, babysit, etc. Someone said she probably spent all her money on gifts. HELLO!! If you don't have it to spend and need it for the bus, then you shouldn't spend it. PRIORITIES.

But hey, why go to all that trouble? There are plenty of suckers around who will just give it to you if you ask.

OP is encouraging this behavior, which adversely affects ALL of us. Hell, you can't even enter or exit a store nowadays without being verbally accosted by panhandlers!

You are a part of the problem, so roped into the scarsity program when this world only produces abundance for all except for the paradigm you are endorsing.

Well there are many who will never join you in it.

And the opportunity you lose to give to another is an opportunity the universe or higher ups gave you to grow your soul a little bigger and brighter and that you threw away.

Some days you're even in a private room and those around you, like that woman, would be, but a perception, or an angel/light being/et, testing you.

Also, there are many who are very tight with money, and never have anything left over, in fact are always borrowed into next months just to try and feed their families. They're the real hero's here in this world, where the abundance that should be for all has been stolen from them by very domination/abusive greedy toddlers who run the world and all those they roped into agreeing with their twisted systems.

In the moment of her life, her last money obviously spent on laundry matt. No time to pawn something, or pick up tin cans for hours, she has to get home with her laundry.

And by the way, change your thinking around abundance, because without money, and clean technology, we'd be living eutopia without slavers and greed, and there is a good portion here on earth capable of doing this without police systems or laws.

I bet she is still at the laundry mat panhandling suckers for two dollars a shot.
