That tells me something is wrong right there. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17888588 The money should go to someone who is going to do some GOOD with it. exactly i bet the only votes miggy gets are by the same person using seperate accounts and different IP's trinity you should look at the IP's that voted fro Miggy then see if the came to the website and just went to the voting thread and no other page.. that should tell you. I chose Miggy. Not that the other contestants weren't deserving, it was a hard call. Quoting: geminilion I wish there was a way to help you all, if I could I would. You obviously don't know her like the rest of us do. Quoting: Fishy I would like to help you if you were not selected. Please private message me your email and I can western union the money, wire or mail it to you. I'm not sure how to use pay pal, but I'm sure I can figure it out. Thank you Fishy for all that you are doing!!! I'm happy to help. Does anyone know Dr. Acula's story? Did someone help? I wrote this earlier today from my heart and posted it in Trinity's voting thread. Just thought I would share here for those who are in need. Holding your loved one tight against your chest, smelling their hair. Watching the sun shine reflect off a stream as the sound rolls off the rocks below. The power of ocean waves as they crash against the shoreline, kissing your face with a mist of salty spray. A soft, warm pet curled up next to you, completely trusting and full of love. Autumn leaves changing into spectacular hues of gold, red, brown. The silence of a winter night as snowflakes big as silver dollars grace the landscape in a blanket of marshmallow white. The artistry, unmatched by man, as spring begins to bloom spreading across the earth a natural canvass of gripping beauty in colors no human could create all dripped delicately on the gentle petals of flowers and blades of grass. And we...WE...lowly humans are able to partake of this beauty, this joy. These mysteries and wonders are what life is made of sitting at the top of the roller coaster. This is the time to breathe deep, look around, stand fast and prepare for what's next. I am a single mother of a disabled son. He is diagnosed with autism, szitzophrenia, fetal alcohol syndrome, retinal degeneration, and seizure disorder. He requires 24/7 care and support with all of his functional needs. I have provided this level of care for him his entire life. He is a beautiful child who will always be a child emotionally. He has the most giving and loving way about him. I lost my job when he turned 18 because I exausted all avenues for help to stay with him while I was at work. The only other alternative is to give up and place him in a mental hospital, which I would rather die than to do. Since I lost my job, finances are tight. We get very little help from social services and disability. We live in Colorado and our home is not very energy efficient. We dont use our gas in the summer, but in the winter the bill is almost $200 a month. We get help from social services for some of the cost ($100 mo), but the balance is very difficult to come by with such a tight budget ($740 mo). There is more, so much more that I can say that we need. He requires a special vehicle to ride in so I have to have a larger vehicle available for his doctor appointments. The gas is so costly! My washer, water heater, stove, and dishwasher went out over the summer during an electrical storm while we were in the hospital overnight. The insurance refuses to help. Through others generosity I have been able to replace the washer and stove, but my water heater leaks constantly and my dishwasher wont even turn on. As he requires assistance all through the day and night, and I am the only person providing that care, it is very difficult to sleep most of the time because I have to get up every hour and check on him. His occupational therapist had suggested that he can be monitored at night with a camera that would let me know if he is moving around. The cost of the camera system is around $500, but oh I cant imagine how it would feel to sleep through the night again sfter doing this for almost 20 years. I know that our story is insignificant to most people. We are but two people in a vast country of people in need, and I know if I would just be a little more selfish and give him to the state, I would be just fine financially. I am well educated with 3 degrees and a mirade of employment choices if I could work again. But, I just cant. I look at my son and I remember what we came through and what we both have sacraficed to be who and where we are today. I have high hopes for my son. Someday I hope to help him qualify for a group home environment. With his developmental disability and his mental health disability he currently doesnt qualify for either placement because of his wandering and inappropriate hugging issues. I know that I couldnt have done all of this for nothing. I know my son will grow and mature someday, and I hope to be able to keep us together until that time comes. Even if we dont qualify for the help being offered, I hope that I have shed some light on the difficulties of parents with disabled children, especially the primary custodians. Can you imagine a life where there is no freedom. I dont get to choose when to shower, when to eat, when to sleep, when to go to the store, or even when to go to the bathroom. There is no sitting down in front of the TV for me. I dont date, no one can visit in my home and not be continually hugged by my son. I struggle to keep pets safe, I dont get holidays, vacations, or even sick leave. When I am sick I have to drag myself because there is no one else to help. I have done this for almost 20 years. You could drown in a pool of tears I have cried because of our situation. I want so desperately to live my life, but how can a parent turn their back on their own child when he cant take care of himself? After they turn 18 the choice for the parent is to place them in care, or find another way. It is so incredibly sad home many young people are just tossed into the system because their parent could no longer care for them and have any type of a life. I was the lucky parent because I had some savings in place when our house of cards fell, but there are so many more out there that have no other choice but to give up the child they have dedicated decades of their lives to. Thank you for considering us as a potential candidate for your generosity. nurbloc |

Quoting: nurbloc I am a single mother of a disabled son. Have you been helped yet? If not, I would like to help. Please PM me. |

We went to the same pizza hut for our 25th anniversary...best meal I'd had in years! Quoting: Fire Watch OMG! That's great! LOL During my better days when I worked in DC, my Great Aunt took me to the restaurant she and my parents ate at after they got married. Nice little out of the way Chinese place with really great people. My Aunt was happy to introduce me to the daughter of the owner who had since passed away. She thought it was just awesome that I was able to sit at the very same table my parents had sat at all of those years ago. It was a special moment for me. On the married note, I'm SO excited!! January 12th is just a few weeks away and I will see my husband for the first time in 2.5 years. I hope I don't become an emotional basket case in public when I go to get him from the airport. But I suppose things like that do happen in airports... LOL. I can't wait. I'm vibrating in place. So when people have asked me what I got for Christmas I simply say, "My husband." :) I sure hope that you are able to spend more time with your husband. That has to be hell for both of you! It's gonna take some time, but I'd wait for him for the rest of my life and same for him for me. I doubted him once. I'll never do it again. His faith has made me see just how powerful our thoughts and words are. Yes, it's hard, but there are people who have been waiting 8 or more years and these are people who are heart surgeons who can't get into the USA and have the money to do so. I belong to a forum that has everything from military wives who's husbands were killed in combat before they could have the marital interview and ICE was sending them back to their home countries even though they had children. Don't think I didn't get on the horn to DC and raise holy hannah about that crap! There are SO many people in worse situations than Willem and I. We are actually very fortunate, because now he has a job that gives him 24 vacation days a year, so even if we don't have a permanent solution just yet, we can now see each other at least once a year and I'm SO grateful for that. Thank you for sharing about the Pizza Hut honeymoon. It's the strangest thing how such simple things turn out to be the most memorable parts of a marriage. Isn't that great? Anyways, the reason for our need :) Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3473233 First, I would pay the $95 left for the month for our rent. We shorted the landlord, but pulled off a MAGICAL Christmas with a mix of new and used gifts for the children :) Second, my 6 year old washer decided to stop working Christmas Eve Eve...my wonderful husband has it all taken apart downstairs and thinks he narrowed it down to the water pump and belt, which will make the total parts $75. If this fails, I would use the rest of the money and find us a decent used washer (I would be so sad, as I really love this washer we bought new...I feel like we have a bond haha). If you have children, you know how VERY important this appliance is in the household. But having that streak of survival in me, we've been making do. Lastly, if there is any left over...I will spend it on groceries!! Can't have enough :) I appreciate being consider, what a beautiful thing to do :)) "Win" or lose, I promise with all my heart to pass this act of gratitude on one day when we find ourselves in a better financial situation. Thank you so very much, Bless you! I know you've already chosen, but I like to retract mine...after reading so many other plights. Situations I couldn't even comprehend. Bless you, and ALL the others out there who aren't only struggling financially, but spiritually and physically. I hope 2013 brings peace in your hearts |
