Most are repeat DWIs and drug offenses. Seeing the govt. brings most drugs into the country, no biggie there. No corrupt govt., much less drugs. The hard core, the people can sort out and re-lock up.

You do know that "fiscal cliff" is just a made-up thing to manipulate the public, right? Of course you do.

Funny how everyone wants less government and a lower deficit until it happens. Seriously we need many less prisoners in the USA. Get rid of all victimless crimes for starters. Full supervised reparation for minor property offences. How many car windows are you going to break after working off the first one at minimum wage picking up trash?

Jail is just college for criminals. The tough guys get an education, the not so tough guys who don't belong there get used as practice victims. Soon they become tough guys themselves, or die.

Reserve jail for people who are a true danger to society.

This is bullshit.. Nothing against OP, but the gov will not let this happen.. If anything, they are trying to get people scared and/or worked up so people will agree to some insane taxes or other measures simply to ensure that prisoners aren't released into the public, among other things..
