Balanced Budget Amendment, amen! But it has to include paying down the debt, and addressing future unfunded liabilities.

Does this require a constitutional convention.

If it does I would fight it tooth and nail. We can never allow that to happen .

I don't recall a constitutional convention being called when they tried to pass the "ERA", but my memory is foggy on the subject.

Can anyone weigh in on this? Was there one?

Ill have to look into it. We need change , but as far as I can remember if a constitutional convention were to be granted , you cant limit what can be changed. And how the government is today they just couldnt be trusted to do the right thing.Nothing stopping them from discarding say the 2nd amendmet , etc.

I guess they can without the convention. They just need a 2/3 supermajority vote in both the house and senate . The president is bypassed , then it goes right to the states that then have to then pass it with 3/4.


That way is ok , they cant just go willy nillie on everything then , like they could with a constitutional convention.

This - a thousand times over.

It is down-right scary what would take place should this door to Pandora's Box open with our sitting Congress/ Administration.

In another world - I do think an amendment requiring a balanced budget within ~90 days of a new session of Congress is in order. No budget - every member is sent home and new elections for those seats conducted. There would also exist a clause that any member sent back for failing to achieve a balanced budget would be ineligible for election for a minimum of two (2) terms, if ever.

Secondarily; Each and every Bill or Resolution submitted MUST be read aloud with definition, recorded, videoed, and aired publicly before said Bill/ Resolution becomes eligible for vote from either the House or Senate, while also placing stern limits on the number and scope of EO from a sitting President.

But, as we sit - no way I would want that box opened right now.

More like they'd destroy the first Ten Amendments comprising the BOR.

That would be the last brick in paving the road to open totalitarianism.

There a few more that need to be added.

"Congress shall pass no laws in which they are immune."

"Congress, being servants of the people, shall not receive any other monetary payments besides job salaries, that are not also entitled by the people they represent."

"Congress shall be held liable for all personal expenses created by term of public service."

Your first two I could really get behind.

That last one about being liable for all personal expenses created by their term is completely unworkable, sadly. When you're a congresscritter you can likely make nearly anything a justified work-related expense.

Congresscritter salaries should be an amount equal to the average income of their particular district. Items that would be deemed as "Business Expenses" would be recorded, and this ledger submitted to a council within their state, and would also be made public for review by those within their state or district.

To alleviate candidates simply moving to other locales in order to gain a higher pay or more prominent position (as Hillary did in NY), it would also be stipulated that
any candidate must have lived within that particular district for 8 - 10 years.

The biggest changes would all have to revolve around removing the smoke and mirrors, and each and everything that the American people are paying for be made public and openly known.

You wouldn't pay for a bag of groceries without knowing what it entails - there's no reason we continue to have the money we bust our bums to make being TAKEN from us under threat of law and no clear definition of where/ on what it is spent.

No exempting themselves from laws they pass!
Impose the "Reynolds Rules" tax on all members of government.
Get rid of the Fed! It is outrageous that that thing was ever accepted as legalm & even moreso now with their track record!

I like them. We need someone who can write these up in fairly airtight legalese.

Remember: "Legalese" isn't always meant to obscure what is written; in its purest form it is meant to enable clarity and hyper-precision.

Then we don't allow it to happen. We learn and enact the disruptive techniques our idealogical foes employ and we stop it if it gets close to starting. No constitutional convention.

Passing much-needed amendments is another story, and a convention isn't required for those (as far as I understand the matter).
