Quoting: CalmShock 3 and a half minutes is all it takes to cure a lifetime of stupidity. This ^^ Thanks Clam, I was actually going to write up a long boring paragraph explaining this, but this video explains it much better than I ever could. Great find! |

I cant believe that after this much debate anyone could say 1 when the answer is 9 RAS |

Calculations in brackets (parenthesis) are done first. When you have more than one set of brackets, do the inner brackets first. 3. Exponents (or radicals) must be done next. 4. Multiply and divide in the order the operations occur. 5. Add and subtract in the order the operations occur. X=9 |

caper_26 User ID: 32057798 Canada 01/23/2013 01:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Figure out what the terms are. Simplify if possible, and apply an principles or laws to make the solve process easier. Apply order of operations. Solve. 1a, 1(x+y), 1pi; Anything with a coefficient of 1, the one doesn't need to be written. Anything without a 1, the 1 CAN be written, but usually is not. However, it is ALWAYS there regardless if it is written or not. THEREFORE: a, (x+y), and pi; ALL have a coefficient of 1. a = 1a (x+y) = 1(x+y) pi; = 1pi; ALSO: 1(1+2) = (1+2). Lose the one, and solve, since you have no idea how grouping works. 3/1(1+2) is the same as 3/(1+2) ANS: 1 This will never change, unless the identity law of multiplication changes where 1*a != a. "9er" snarky comments of -It is 9 you morons -How is this still going on after 140 million pages? It is still 9! -You are wrong, it is 9 All those comments are useless redirects since you are too lazy to read any of the references posted. the answer is ONE. It will remain ONE. You can say it is whatever you want, just like on a test. However, like an exam, you will get it wrong. Say it 9, 5, 113, I don't care. This isn't a majority vote. But, there is a good analogy: Democracy's fundamental flaw is that half of the voters have a below-average IQ.
