Just watched a news clip with Jim Cantorie and he was saying that 75 to 100 mph winds were possible.Some poor lady that lost most everything with Sandy was terrified in the interview and even said she was terrified.
Sounds like its going to be very bad.

We've just got a dusting thus far here in Vermont, hoping for more to help out the ski mountains. From what I've read and heard, we're expecting 8"-16" today and southern New England could get twice that amount. Still hoping we get more up here, but either way, it's time to break out the sleds this weekend!!

the CoC is still barely onshore near Hatteras. Tight center too. You can see CoC of the Great Lakes storm is somewhere over Lake Erie. Interesting to see the two systems winds interacting along a boundary.

The weather channel just reported high tide Saturday morning will be at the peak of storm surge from winter storm Nemo.

I wonder if this is being under reported. For hurricane Sandy, much of the East Coast was building sand berms in preparation for days. Didn't hear anything about storm surge until this morning.

Newsflash: a fire in your fireplace is not going to do squat shit to warm your house. It will, in fact, suck heat OUT of your house.

Furthermore there is little you can do to prevent your pipes from freezing in a situation like this. So you just suck it up, butter cup. Don't break your back shoveling either, temps are back in the 40s by monday and it will all melt by tuesday.

My prescription: a giant "chill pill" for everyone. My main worry is just the wind damage to structures that may occur. The cold and snow are really non-issues as they'll be gone in a few days.

This is not an unusual storm for New England. It may be a big storm, but it's very typical for February.

Valentine's day, in 2006 I believe, Vermont got over 36 inches of snow in one day. We just deal with it and move on. Hell, we even enjoy it, with skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, sliding, and riding!

The most at-risk are elderly folks who can't do their own snow removal. I'll be volunteering my time tomorrow morning to help those folks. If power goes out, yes, that's troublesome, considering most don't have woodstoves or fireplaces, but it's not likely.
