Take a empty milk gallon to the gas station and pump one gallon into it. You could be right OP, but no gas station should let you use a milk jug. Then again I live in NJ and we don't pump our own gas. Quoting: Munsoned thats right , thats why i went during rush hour. they didnt notice May I suggest using a regular gas can after making a 1 gallon fill line in it? Take a empty milk gallon to the gas station and pump one gallon into it. temperature matters too Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32877835 volumes are generally corrected to 15 degrees Celsius. If gas temp less than 15 and assume it is metered properly, you will get more gas. If greater than 15 you get less. In Canada there is a regulator that tests for octane and quantity. If a pump meters wrong big fine. Octane too. THIS! I am ready to believe you OP. But keep what AC said in mind. If you want to make sure the measurements are correct, you should test it at the 5 stations at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day when the gas is warmer due to the sun. Also write down the outside temp at the moment of measuring. |

Take a empty milk gallon to the gas station and pump one gallon into it. gas cans are made of certain kinds of plastic that won't react. While preparing a bonfire this past fall, I used a red plastic cup to pour some gas into to pitch it up the woodpile.....the plastic cup held firm for a few seconds then violently melted....gas going all over me. Would a milk jug melt or actually hold the gas? Quoting: Dace yes it would hence the |

Take a empty milk gallon to the gas station and pump one gallon into it. Most if not all states have a Division of Weights and Measures usually in the state's Dept of Commerce, that goes around checking gasoline pumps. Find that govt entity and turn in a couple of gas stations that you suspect of shorting gasoline measurement. Are car manufacturers complicit by giving false fuel tank capacity figures or is OP actually ironically FULL of shit. |

OK then do this ... Get a plastic approved gasoline container. Fill it using gallons of water from milk jugs. Does 5 gallons of water way overflow your 5 gallon gasoline container? |

Do you notice that when mistakes are made and pointed out by the public ,and sometimes acted on by the people in charge ,its never in the members of the public ie common joes favour ,oh its a genuine mistake they say ,but you never get 1.5 gallons instead of 1 gallon. or anything else that's needed by everyone dunno if you all know wht im trying to say . |

Take a empty milk gallon to the gas station and pump one gallon into it. Around here they test the pumps each year and when they pass they get a sticker with a government signature, if they fail they are bagged until they pass. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1018225 So after they pass they can probably cheat pretty safely for a good 10 months or more. I've got some stations that I think cheat on volume but I've never done anything like a repeatable test. |

Take a empty milk gallon to the gas station and pump one gallon into it. Did this last week at 5 different gas stations and guess what? Quoting: pissed off at the pump 1296389 It only filled the 1 "gallon" of gas only filled up 3/4ths of the gallon milk jug. We are being cheated not only by unexplainable soaring gas prices, but we aren't even getting what we are supposedly paying for. Fucking bullshit. Don't believe it? Try it yourselves... I own a gas station, and where I am located the pumps are inspected by Government inspector twice a year. The maximum variance is .005 gallon, which I don't think you could eyeball. I call bullshit. |
