If gas temp less than 15 and assume it is metered properly, you will get more gas. If greater than 15 you get less. In Canada there is a regulator that tests for octane and quantity. The gallon milk jar bottle does not in any way represent a calibrated volumetric instrument, it can be used as a rough estimate.

I've got some stations that I think cheat on volume but I've never done anything like a repeatable test.
