However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task
the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:24

"This man really is the Savior of the world!" John 4:42

Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him;
and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.

I start every day with a fresh cup of coffee...

lets start the new day off at GLP with Coffee Doom

gaah

Coffee is already high enough... im sure this will not bode well on the already expensive brew... as far as price and quantity availability...

Strike a deal with the farmers so they can get back to work!

Re: COFFEE DOOM!
Ok, Doc. That's it! I quit! Today has just totally sucked and I quit! Take away a person's coffee...REALLY...that's just WRONG!

Seriously, I don't know the details, but I have a feeling they have a good reason to strike.
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

Without coffee... I dont wanna be on this planet lol

my cigarette and my coffee... keeps my chin up... and give me hope... I dont ask for much in life... I just want my coffee and my cigarette...

but yeah by the sounds the government is screwing them and giving them low wages

"president says his government already pays growers subsidies of 60,000 pesos (£21; $33) for every 125 kilos of coffee and has said he will consider extending the benefit created last July."
[link to www.bbc.co.uk]

It takes a lot of work to get 125 kilos of coffee... a tree only produces about 7 pounds of beans a year...

125 kilos is 275 pounds...

so it takes about 39 trees to get 33 bucks!

"with more than half a million families reliant on the crop for their livelihoods. But last year's crop was its lowest for decades."
[link to www.bbc.co.uk]

so they not doing so well financially...

I'm hurting for them... their livelihoods are at stake... and you know even with a good crop they arent making very much... i hope they reach a deal that helps them...

but i want my coffee dammit!
 Quoting: Dr. Acula

I agree, completely, although for me its a cappuccino and a cig. in the morning. I recently got a Keurig coffee maker for my hubby, and found cappuccino kcups - now I am actually savings $$ since I'm not buying a cup at the store every morning =)

Anyway, I'd be a very unhappy person without one or the other! lol

Re: COFFEE DOOM!
had a cup of decaf at applebees tonight

it was pretty good

that's the only time i like coffee, just a small cup after a nice dinner. it's like a dessert, i only drink it a few times each year. i could never drink it every day the way so many people do.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34272879

its so good with dessert isnt it?

its not for everyone though.

I drink enough coffee in a year to keep 10 families in Columbia employed lol
 Quoting: Dr. Acula

You and me both! haha I try to quit all the time but its not possible lol In fact I'm having a cup right now :-)

Mmmm coffee.

Coffee beans here cost about $0.75 a kilo from the farmers. Massive markup by the middlemen.
 Quoting: BuggedOut

is that in US Dollars or Thai Baht?
 Quoting: Dr. Acula

My bad it's less: $0.67 usd a kilo ( 20 Thai baht - dried beans) :)

Dunkin Donuts coffee is purchased from the growers with a fair trade agreement. What that means is that the workers who harvest the beans get a better living wage than workers likely would otherwise.

The prices have gone up, and the amount of coffee per weight has gone down! It's almost 15.00 for less then 2 pounds of whole bean coffee! So what ever the price I need my coffee!

Re: COFFEE DOOM!
My Wife is a little picky...ok...a LOT picky about her Sacred Brew. First she wouldn't drink it if it wasn't ground at the store("pre ground coffee tastes off, almost stale"). Then she tried 3 different grinders "to find right one". She went from drinking this French Roast Community-8'oclock-something-or-other to bulk whole bean to this Organic "Shade grown, Co-Op Farmed" Aztec coffee that is sold by the kilo for $19. Me? I'm ok with the local chains house brand of pre-ground. But....BUT......The best cup of coffee I have every day is my first cup from her pot of that Organic Dark Roast......I don't need it to live like she does but DAMN is it good ;-)

Re: COFFEE DOOM!
You know something guys a way to save money on coffee and have it taste way better is to buy a coffee press or french press they have them at Starbucks for 20 dollars. I just bought one recently because my coffee pot seems to get too hot and gives the coffee a really nasty burnt taste. It was for the best though because I use less coffee probably half what I used to use in the coffee pot. Just my two cents :-)

One of my husbands healthcare workers told me yesterday about a new study that found the more coffee a person drinks a day the LESS likely they are to get Alzhiemers. The study found that people who don't drink coffee or drink very little coffee are the ones who had Alzhiemers.

Falling prices, yet the price in the stores keep rising. Curious that, considering the number of people that are addicted to the taste and ritual of crushed bean runoff in the morning.
