U Of Texas Professor Says
Mass Death Is Imminent

AUSTIN -- A University of Texas professor says the Earth would be better off with 90 percent of the human population dead.

"Every one of you who gets to survive has to bury nine," Eric Pianka cautioned students and guests at St. Edward's University on Friday. Pianka's words are part of what he calls his "doomsday talk" - a 45-minute presentation outlining humanity's ecological misdeeds and Pianka's predictions about how nature, or perhaps humans themselves, will exterminate all but a fraction of civilization.

That's 5.8 billion lives - lives he says are turning the planet into "fat, human biomass.

Although [Ebola Zaire] Kills 9 out of 10 people, outbreaks have so far been unable to become epidemics because they are currently spread only by direct physical contact with infected blood. However, a closely-related virus that kills monkeys, Ebola Reston, is airborne, and it is only a matter of time until Ebola Zaire evolves the capacity to be airborne."

The Vanishing Book of Life on Earth
This is the scariest graph that you're ever going to see in your entire life -- take a good look at it. We hit six billion not very long ago and now we are at six and a half and we're still going, roaring. This kind of exponential population growth is unsustainable and has to stop. People sometimes ask "what is the carrying capacity for humans?" As I stated earlier, humans now occupy roughly half of Earth's land surface, consuming over half the freshwater and using about half Earth's primary productivity. However, lots of those people are living in poverty and not even getting adequate nutrition. Many are just little babies, still living under their parent's roof, who in a couple of decades, will need their own houses and cars. A tidal wave of humanity is coming. No politician will even recognize, let alone address, this enormous problem.

Now I'm going to try to convince you that human populations must be reduced. Paul Ehrlich, in the 1960s, wrote a nice little book, "The Population Bomb," calling attention to this. Nobody paid much attention to Ehrlich (1968). Even today, I hear people saying, "Oh, I've heard you doomsday ecologists before. We've still got water, there's no problem." They're so short-sighted.

Reduced? No, it needs to be managed properly. Resources evenly distributed, clean energy, new ways of producing resources we need in a healthy non-consume at all costs way. But this will never happen.

Re: The missing Virus is from the same College where the professor that wants to end 90 percent of population
"Venezuelan hemorrhagic fever (VHF) is a zoonotic human illness first identified in 1989. The disease is most prevalent in several rural areas of central Venezuela and is caused by the Guanarito (GTOV) arenavirus belonging to the Arenaviridae family. The short-tailed cane mouse (Zygodontomys brevicauda) is the main host for GTOV [1] which is spread mostly by inhalation of aerosolized droplets of saliva, respiratory secretions, urine, or blood from infected rodents.[2] Person-to-person spread is possible, but uncommon."

So this is NOT the virus you've been waiting for to wipe out the world like in The Stand. I mean common yeah its bad but its been OUT OF THE LAB for quite some time. That's where they found it, IN THE WILD, and the whole world hasn't been wiped out. Sure if its been genetically altered into some kinda weapon then watch out but as it stands now, hardly a global emergency. I suppose I'm a shill for posting this.

Re: The missing Virus is from the same College where the professor that wants to end 90 percent of population
pretty much same as walking dead cdc accidentally releases virus

only this one i believe that nutty professor stole it so it would make a great movie who do i sign with lol
 Quoting: KITKAT123

but it would work in reverse. like the story in revolution does.

it will be a random person followed in his normal life while he, for some reason, finds out about someone dieing of an illness and everything being quitely quarantained around the house. no news about it. no zombie like stuff. just somewhat odd that something somewhat special happens without any local news. and for all i care the person could be on a forum like this one. just talking about a weird thing that happened during the day. and then like 2 days later a thread pops up about somewhat the same thing happening somewhere else..

and that would build up from 1 dead person to a couple. and still no news at all. and then news about a desease. some guy from a different country for all i care (it would be a cover story anyway) that got sick and a couple of people that passed him by getting the same desease... up untill that doesnt seem to make sense anymore cuz more and more keep getting it..

all of this should happen in a couple of episodes tho. building up to where everyone knows atleast 1 person that has it. to schools getting closed for a week to not have people interact to much. till there not coming an end to that week..

just people dieing.. till theres only like a few houses a street still active while the others are closed because everyone that lived there died...

and obviously the plot would be some professor did indeed release it. and piece by piece they would find out about it.
and about his theory and the reason why he did it.

meh im not really good at this LOL

1 this is like the ebola virus

Well... I feel much better about it now..

[snip]

The virus could theoretically spread between humans, but it usually only spreads between rodents in Venezuela.

Still, the virus has caused "at least several hundred cases" of human disease in regions where it is common, said NIH's director of the Office of Biodefense Research Affairs, Michael Kurilla. "The mortality is anywhere from at least 10 to 20 percent or slightly more," Kurilla told ABCNews.com, adding that there is no treatment or cure for Guanarito.
