Part of me wants to take a detour to Assumption Parrish and try to take pictures. Quoting: SaltyFlats Could you see if maybe you can gather a few bottles of that water and have it tested for salinity? I know it might be too much to ask, But I have noticed it's gotten very close to highway 70. So it shouldn't be too hard to get a sample. |

But from all my reading I understand, (and I could be wrong) that this sinkhole likely has more clear water at the top as salt water is heavier and would sink more to the bottom. Also the sinkhole is thought to be on top of or combining with the mississippi aluvial aquifer, and that would be a source of more clear water, coming to the top. They have justified their insistance that is is low salinity by saying the trees and fish are not dying. ? This is all from casual memory - I may have not stated it exactly right - just the basic of it. |

Could it be they do not want to inform us of that cause they know it's coming from the GOM? fairly salty as it has been dissolving some of the salt domes there, but not so salty as to prevent more salt dome dissolving. one of the better ideas i've heard since this started was to dump a ton of salt in there to prevent the sinkhole from growing. of course if it's connected to the GoM at this point, subject to tidal waves, it's too late for that. |

Anyone who has ever had a salt water aquarium should have a hydrometer, which could be floated directly in the sinkhole water itself, or a sample may be taken and put into a tall plastic cylinder where the hydrometer may be inserted and a reading may be taken remotely. Most aquariums are around the "1020" density. The reason I queried as to whether the water was mostly saline correlates directly with the tidial movements of the water which seem consistent with a low/high tide water level shift suggesting a direct link to the GOM. Even if the water were proven to be brackish, I believe there could still be a connection to the GOM. Real Eyes, Realize, Real Lies..... A video has been posted on YouTube showing that 750' of cord was used and all 750' went down to bottom. This information has been sent to the Blue Ribbon Commission for there review. DEPTH WAS 500 feet a day ago. I watched the vid waiting to see something compelling, but there was no reference to actual depth . . . it appears he ran out of cord, but didn't tell the viewer how much was on that roll. Can you provide more proof that it was 750? But moreover, can you cite something that proves the depth was 500 feet one day ago? If that's true, it is troubling. Thanks. [link to assumptionla.wordpress.com] I have been receiving email updates from this site for the last 10 months or so and I have always found their info. to be factual. You can see archived updates at the lower right. You will find accurate information. It is a troubling situation. I believe this is the deepest level the sinkhole has ever been and it is not stopping. Typical behavior seems to be - seismic activity for a few days, sometimes several days, a small burp, a pause, a larger burp, and the level drops, the perimiter increases, debris comes to the top, sinkhole is larger. Sometimes the depth has been more shallow after a burp, as debris rises and causes a false bottom. A more accurate depth measurement takes a day or so after an event. as to questions of the water content, it was reported to be low salinity with diesel early on. not sure what they say now. Thanks, ancha, I too have been following this story pretty much from the beginning and there's a lot to try and understand about it. I do know there have been variations in depth for the very reasons you state above. Sorry if I'm just finding it, but I still cannot locate anything confirming that the depth was 500 feet yesterday. Can you confirm that for me, because if there's a 250 feet lowering in one day, I should think would be great cause for concern. Thanks. |

Remember the massive machines with more then 4 meters diameter that drill themselves into strata ? Remember the multiple occasions that submarines went MISSING in a cave-system ? [Yes sub-continental cave-systems and tunnels from the ocean waters to far inland the continent! But this makes more sense then some peoples explanation on here. Do you all remember the BP gulf oil incident? This sink hole in LA is a planned result of that. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43581613 Also the future map of the area is a result of the planned BP oil rig explosion. The consequences of that are playing out, slowly . . . and no one knows for sure what it will lead to. Ultimate goal may be division of USA, via New Madrid waterway.
