How about prohibiting the use of food stamps to buy soda, junk food and other non-food items?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 39188864

yes, soda, candy bars, gum???, birthday cakes....I even watched some lady buying dog food because the supermarket had the dog food somehow misappropriated in the system as food. Now that is NOT a fucking mistake that is fraud on the supermarket....some say even some stores allow diapers. Nobody is watching the farm here folks!

This. There's a small store in my town that lets people buy cigs. and alcohol with food cards too. They just ring it up under "Food" in the cash register.

It's sickening.

What difference is it going to make. In another 10 yrs. there are going to be another 10-20% more people on food stamps. Theres going to be more getto rats shitting out more thugs, more illegals, more unemployed.....this is not sustainable.

The fraud has to be reigned in. No illegals and unless ' fully proven' disabled no FS. At least some proven work hrs. Limit of children, limit of time allowed to receive FS (time adjusted if you are doing some work, even if its community service. You can live like a pig in your own 4 walls but, clean up the neighborhood)- etc.

That surfer dude in the vid. I just watched needs to be put on a limited time to receive FS (or removed!). Hes fucking able to work.

Because the trades are not illegal.

...
Nonsense, tax revenues are up by more than $200 billion per year since 2006 despite the Democrat-caused recession.

...
The government spends about $3.50 on handouts for every dollar it spends on the DoD.

...
Then the poor will starve, because it is the rich who they are living off.

Result of simple web searches:

The government spends about $900 billion on Medicare and Medicaid, $870 billion on Social Security, $575 billion on welfare = $2,345 billion. It spends about $660 billion on the DoD, including the appropriations for the wars. 2,343/660 = 3.55

The government collected $2.4 trillion in taxes in 2006, $2.7 trillion in 2008, and it projects to collect $2.9 trillion in taxes in 2013. So, tax collections are increasing.

The poor are paid their benefits from people's taxes. According to figures from the IRS, the top 5% of wage earners pay roughly 60% of the taxes. Thus, without rich folks, the poor would starve.

It's a very simple formula, anyone that needs food stamps is arguing for them and people who don't yet are against them. When a person who doesn't becomes a person who does, his position will change like the weather...etc.
 Quoting: AA 47096534
Maybe the shallow people you hang around with, but not everybody. Some people still have things called "principles".

When the last company I worked for went bust, they gave me a form I could use to apply for unemployment. I framed it, hung it on my wall, then started my own business. Never took one cent from the government.

The implied warrant in your statement is that people who are in favor of reducing the food stamp program by this minuscule amount ($4 billion per year out of $83 billion)want to cancel it. That is nonsense. If people really need it they should have it.

However, when more than 100 million people receive government food assistance, a number greater than the total number of full-time private sector workers in the US, it becomes pretty clear that the government's priorities need to shift from creating dependency to creating jobs.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47107726

And how many of those 100 million people are the working poor? Why don't we just cut the whole program and save that $85 billion a year for something else...etc.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4047465
Are you really this stupid, or did you not reach the 4th grade reading level yet?

Try reading this over and over again until you understand it:

"If people really need it they should have it."

Republicans are calling for a cut of $4 billion per year out of a budget of $83 billion.

Or, if you prefer this in libtard propaganda numbers, they are proposing to cut $40 billion out of a program projected to cost $830 billion.

Any way you cut it, the cut is about 4.8%.

Even in the single-celled brain of the most intelligent libtard, that is nothing resembling "cutting the whole program".

And how many of those 100 million people are the working poor? Why don't we just cut the whole program and save that $85 billion a year for something else. Who cares that any impacts in funding to the program will result in direct job losses for those in the food industry whether it be production, distribution or retailing. In fact many of those who would lose their jobs due to a cut in food aid would most likely be those already receiving food aid as working poor. But that's ok these people should get out there and start a business because ended up jobless with no food will certainly motivate them. Also who cares if everyone else has to now bag their own groceries cause stores laid off the worker who used to do it. And what's paying 20% more in food costs for everyone else who doesn't receive food assistance matter. I'm sure people will be able to just absorb the added costs now that food subsidies no longer exist. Oh that's right even if you don't receive food stamps your food costs are still being subsidized whether or not you realize it by the added purchasing power of everyone else that does. And explain again how exactly you want the government to create jobs?? Kind of ironic that you seem anti government social welfare programs the government shouldn't be protecting people after all, but you want the government to create jobs?? The private sector should be creating the jobs not the government. Why don't expand your business since it's so easy economically out there nowadays. You could hire on some workers and pay them a living wage, show them what it's like to work hard and succeed with ease. Or you could pay them minimum wage, have the government subsidize their food and health care costs, all while you collect larger profits for yourself.

Change it to a WIC-like program. Where only certain healthy foods are allowed. I don't want kids to going hungry, but... Often in a line of 3-4 people at the grocery store, I'm the only one paying for my family's food and I always buy marked down meat and bread, generics, and produce.

Man there is just something that reeks of intelligence and clearly graduate level education when someone takes a partial quote and then uses it out of context. I must add though you've gone way beyond even that, it adds infinite more legitimacy to ones quest to appear intellectually superior when you utilize insults as well. Bravo to you good sir, bravo if only we were all so magnificently well spoken and informed as you, certainly then America would be grand.

Re: GOP bill to cut 40 Billion dollars in FOOD STAMPS!
Do you know how manny families will be affected by this? How many children ? The mentality that everybody that is lazy takes food stamps is ridiculous! Do you know how many families have lost everything and that is their only meal until they get better? It happened to me ! To proud ,I can survive and I did ,but there was a time in between that I needed help, for my children and my sanity and their health! It lasted until I found work ', but for 4 months that help me, and I am greatful. They maybe don't care they have money, they will never be hungry or the doctor go to their house, they have insurance paid by us! Heck yea I am grateful.what they are doing is wrong.

We are complaining about the people who have made living off the govt. tit a way of life and taught their children the same thing.

It was meant for temporary help/use (as you needed it) not a way of life.

gtfo thailand shill.

I'm an American. Not that a Thai person couldn't outclass you too.

Thanks for playing.

That's total nonsense...etc.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47058396
Wrong, it's well documented. And, it's also well documented that since the 1950s, cutting taxes has increased government revenues every time it was done, including under Kennedy. Yep, that's right, Kennedy was an early "supply-sider" back before the term had been invented.

The rich are dependent on the poor, not the poor are depended on the rich. The rich have turned into money blood suckers.
