Re: Support thread for those with cancer, terminal illness, or any life altering physical ailment. For caregivers as well
Brian is still in the hospital, and I do not have an update on him. The last I heard, the infection is not going away.
Beverly is not doing very well. Her kidneys have failed. They started dialysis tuesday. She is in a lot of pain from the surgery. She is talking like she doesn't think she is going to make it this time. She said the kids will be OK.:(

My little grandson Kacee, who will be 5 next month, is having oral surgery at the hospital tomorrow. The oral surgeon is crowning all of his molars. He has to be under anesthesia for this. Bad teeth seem to run in my son-in-laws family. :(

Please include my friend Brian, and my family in your prayers. hf

Re: Support thread for those with cancer, terminal illness, or any life altering physical ailment. For caregivers as well
I got 2 prayer requests, friends.

One is for my sister-in-law, Beverly, the sister of my late first husband. She had heart surgery the day before yesterday. The doctors couldn't do all the repairs they thought they could, as her heart is too damaged. They fixed half of what they planned to do.She is diabetic, blind, and a double amputee. She is raising 4 of her grandchildren, one of whom is disabled. They are ages 18, 17, 11, and 9.The kids need her. They have no one else.

The other one is for my friend Brian. He is in the hospital for an infection in his left leg. The doctors had amputated the lower part of left leg, below the knee, 2 months ago, and the stump will not heal up. I have known him most of my life, as we went to school together. The poor guy had to sit behind me in the classroom every year(alphabetical seating), and I was a terror, just ask Brian ! He needs to heal, and get fitted with an artificial lower leg, so he can do things for himself again.

Thank you all !!! hf

Just scanned this thread, saw the posts on nausea.

Things that helped my wife's nausea (which was SSRI/Serotonin overdose/withdrawal related) are:

1) carrot juice. The retinoic acid increases the metabolism of serotonin and dopamine in a safe yet effective way

2) organic balsamic vinegar (in some water), also contains organic acids that works in a similar way.

3) Lemon peel. Works in different cases, more histamine related I think.

4) Ginger. Definitely histamine linked.

5) Chamomile tea. Speeds up MAO, but that is not the only way it reduces nausea.

and the most consistent winner over various types of nausea:

6) Cumin tea. Just put some ground cumin in cup, fill with boiling water. For next cups, just keep adding a bit if cumin and top up with more boiling water.

Hope this is useful. Feedback on what works for you always useful.

Re: Support thread for those with cancer, terminal illness, or any life altering physical ailment. For caregivers as well
Firstly my thoughts are with all of you going thru a tough time.

Well, my story is..........
Gave up my baker job of 8 years to move towns and be with my lovely partner, she already had 3 kids and i decided it was easier for me to move than to uproot the little ones.

a few years on and my partner fell really ill with intencse ulcerative colitis so i had to quit my job to take care of her and run everyone around. all was looking on the up and up and so i started working again and furthering my studies on IT. when my parter started going down hill again but alot worse this time. going against my opinion my partner has been on drug trial after drug trial with no real let up of her situation.
ontop of all that, this happened

[link to www.stuff.co.nz]

now for the last year just been dealing with test after test after test, my daughter has changed from an outgoing high achiever to a quite almost failing at school.

have tried everything i can think of but it sucks seeing my partner and girl in this way and there is nothing i can do about it.

Daily struggles of watching my partner rocking back and forth holding her stomach moaning in pain.

i now this is nothing compared to alot of posts on here but even just venting this is easing some of my mind set.

with all the doctors visits, kids stuff, daughters counciling, kids sports umongst all the household duties i am so run down and now the government has decided she is not sick enough to keep paying us and are trying to force one of us into work, more pressure on her than me for some reason which has just made me mad. until all this i have worked all my life and see all these other no-hopers on the benifit who can work but decide to milk the system.

regards
TIRED AND MAD from NZ :(

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through.

Has your partner ever had a serotonin test done?

If not she should, high serotonin levels in blood and 24 urine tests are indicative of carcinoid cancer. CC is often misdiagnosed as IBS, UC, Crohns, etc.

While CC is very rare it often is over looked for many years and a simple blood and 24 urine test should be done if she has suffered for so long.

Some signs and symptoms include:

Flushing of the face and neck (appearance of deep red color, usually with sudden onset)
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
Rapid heart rate
Wheezing, coughing, difficulty breathing

I would check all medication she is on and google search to see if they raise serotonin levels, when they are high a patient experiences severe gastro upset....

Good luck to both of you, I hope this can help!

This site explains the blood and 24 hour urine test:

These sites are foods and meds that can cause serotonin syndrome or false positives:

Many people with gastro issue are given proton pump inhibitors, there drugs can raise serotonin and actually cause worse gastro issues and pain, check to see if she is taking and of these:

I've been juicing quite a bit for her. Carrots and small pieces of ginger are helpful. Unfortunately, because she is 5. The rest may be a little more difficult to get her to try. Although I truly hope this helps someone. :D

My grandson is OK, very sore and cranky, but OK.

Beverly is feeling a lot better, but it looks like her kidneys will not restart. She will be on dialysis the rest of her life.

No update on Brian.

Glad to hear the grandson is doing well. It's pretty traumatic for someone so young. Safe or not, it always makes you nervous when they put a child under anesthesia.

My daughter says that she will never let them put my grandson under anesthesia again. When he woke up, he was unbelievable. The dentist told her he might get a bad reaction. He wasn't just screaming, he was freaking out.

I did the same thing when I had some wisdom teeth out. I had my wife with me, told her to not leave the room. When they brought me back out of the twilight sleep, I was sick and had to go throw up. She came with me and the dentist was right behind her. When I caught sight of the dentist by my wife, I freaked and went after him swinging like a madman. Of course I just fell down. Apparently, I did not give up and went crawling after him. He laughed his but off. My wife told me about it later, I don't remember a thing. She had to get some of my friends to come and get me to bring me home.

So I guess my point is, some do have a strange reaction to anesthesia.

Anesthesia sucks. My daughter had another Bone Marrow Biopsy and she woke up in a rage. I got kicked in the chest, and the nurse got punched. I can't believe how much power is in that little body of hers.

I'm glad she is a fighter, but damn.... I wasn't expecting that.

I do too... *sigh*

I would imagine they too are sad, but also happy that she is no longer suffering. I imagine that must have been really hard on the heart, to watch a loved one be in pain. She is such a strong soul. Such an amazing, caring, loving person who always put others feelings before her own. She is something so very special. She truly touched not only my heart, but my soul. There aren't very many like her. She is so special that God wanted her home.

I don't talk religion or God around here much. And to be honest, I'm not really sure what I believe other than there is a power greater than me out there. I choose to call that power God. And I have been saved so many times, in so many circumstances...some that I put myself into. I'm not needed upstairs yet. So I must believe that I am needed here for a bit. Because truly, I shouldn't be here.

I'll leave it there for now. : )
