I was thinking about Rzev as well. Some here might want to research Rzev. All you ever hear about are the battles of Moscow and St. Petersburg (Stalingrad). The Russians came very close to losing that war. It is true that sheer force of will and ~15,000,000 Russian soldier deaths saved the day. It is also true that America provided a metaphorical mountain of war materiel to Russia. Everything from thousands of Studebaker trucks to P-39 Air Cobras to food to everything in between. Had Russia not been given this aid, the outcome could have well been different. Someone upthread mentioned that Germany never produced 4-engine bombers; had Germany produced 4-engine bombers and used them against Russian factories that had been hastily moved east, the outcome would have been different. There seems to be a fair amount of adulation for Hitler upthread as well. Had Hitler died before he attacked Poland, he might have gone down in history as one of the greatest politicians that ever lived. Let's be clear here; Hitler and his posse of nazis were totalitarian leftist fuckfaces. A good portion of the wehrmacht despised Hitler and his nazi party, probably even more do due to his egomaniacal meddling with regard to the eastern front.

Germans today are not of the same stock as the Wehrmacht generation. That generation of Ubermenschen was literally wiped off the face of the map. You won't find their genetic traces in Europe today.

Your statements don't sound very conclusive or logical. There were plenty of survivors in every branch of the German military, if the warrior class is what you're talking about.

The two allied invaders were Nazi Germany and the USSR who both invaded POLAND to split it between themselves.

Dresden was bombed solely because Slavs escaping from the Soviet Union were there because they were led to believe that the lack of war industy would render it safe.
The fact is that the bombing of innocent escapes from the horrors of the communist state were done to appease Stalin and had nothing to do with winning the war and everything to keep the American public from learning about the horrors of communism which far out-horrored anything the Nazis got to accomplish. Nazis only had about 10 years of slave labor and extermination camps while the communists invented them and ran them nonstop from 1917 to 1989 without any interference from the West

Dunkirk was a hell of a battle. Hitler's Halt Order was only from May 24th to May 26th 1940 and only applied to German ground forces. It was suggested by German generals to rest and regroup and Hitler approved it. The British evacuated under fire May 27th to June 4th 1940 after the Halt Order had been lifted.

The Wehrmacht was probably the best military machine in the world from 1939-1941. The German re-militarization of the 1930s meant they had large numbers of recent designs of planes and tanks. They steamrolled Poland and then rolled over pretty much all of Western Europe but they still lost planes, pilots and tanks. Their failure in the Battle of Britain cost the Luftwaffe a lot of planes and skilled pilots and then the idiot Hitler invaded the Soviet Union which was just too big to conquer. Other nations caught up in tank and aviation technology and the Germans couldn't replace skilled pilots and other skilled positions or produce enough replacement planes and tanks as the war dragged on.

But all the Soviets needed to do was hold on. Germany had zero chance in a war of attrition and they knew it. The Soviet Union was huge with ample oil and other natural resources and twice the population of Germany. While the Wehrmacht was much, much better than the Red Army as long as the Soviets didn't fall they could keep building tanks, planes and armies and the Germans couldn't.

The Soviet Union shot down more planes, destroyed more tanks and killed more German soldiers that all the other nations combined. The invasion of the Soviet Union was Hitler's biggest blunder.

The Germans came so very close to defeating the Soviets defended Stalingrad, Moscow, and Leningrad.

But in the end, the desperation and courage of the Russians -- knowing defeat would mean probable death, the destruction of their homeland, subjugation to an occupying foreign power, etc. -- prevailed.
