Quoting: Anonymous Coward 297693A)Why do you assume that the autolaoder doesn't have one up the spout in the first place? Or are you attempting a straw man argument. Naughty, naughty, that is intellectually dishonest. B)Why do you assume that it is so difficult to rack the slide? Are you limp-wristed? C) A long gun for encounters at less than 10 feet? You are asking to have that gun ripped out of your hands. Would you care for a demonstration? Since you clearly don't know shit about the subject, please shut the fuck up. Altough I don't agree with everything Dunk said, there are quite a few cases that back him up. Generally it is considered a better idea to use a shotgun for home defense. I'm not sure I agree that using Number 7 shot would be my choice. And using a long gun at 10 feet is perfectly doable. A 26inch Mossberg 500 would be a very nice weapon at ten feet. With a cut down 18 1/2 inch barrel, firing some #2 or #4 goose shot. Maybe even some BB shot...it'd do nicely. A hit from 60+ .22 caliber BB shot versus missing with a .45. Why missing? Because aligning a shotgun is easier than a handgun..esp in the dark. Two hands sitting on a shotgun line up better than two clenched fists around a pistol grip. Makes for better natural aiming. Ask anyone. Shooting a long arm accurately is much easier than shooting a pistol accurately. One thing I disagree on. Pump shotguns. The South African police found that using pump shotguns is a bad idea. Automatic shotguns were far better. Less things to worry about. With an automatic, it's just aim, and fire. No worrying about short stroking the shotgun. And I trust the South African police when it comes to shooting people. *smile* |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 297693You don't know me. You've got no idea what you're talking about or to who. That seems to be an error in judgment right there. Dismissing someone when you don't know their capabilities? Big mistake. As to being "in the shit" I guess it would depend on your meaning. If you mean, have I been shot at? Then yes I have been. I didn't just have my car stolen before. I've had my house broken into as well. Bad neighborhood down near Airport Road off Agua Fria in Santa Fe New Mexico back in the 1990's. The barrio section of town. Lots of people shot, lots of stuff broken into. |

They're standing at the kitchen door and you're aiming at them when they step around the door? Wanna know what happens? First...their eyes fly open wide. Cause they didn't expect you to be there. Your car was in the shop and you had a friend drive you home that night from work. Maybe you turned in early and all the lights are off on a Friday night. Lights off at 10 o clock on a Friday night with no car in the driveway? What would you figure if you're a crook? Nobody is home. Out to the movies. Maybe out on a date. Most crooks prefer to rob you when no body is home. If they make a mistake and you're there...that's when trouble starts. You guys act like your home invaders came there with some idea of how to rush immediately to your room...in the dark...in a strange house...with the sole purpose of confronting you to kill you. That ain't the way it works. They're there for easy money. 9 times out of 10. Secondly...they have to decide if they want to rush into a shotgun barrel to stab you. OR...make a dash out and run for it. I got unlucky...they did neither. They just froze. I don't speak Spanish so I've got no idea what they were saying. I know what I was saying, but they weren't doing what I told them to do. So then *I* had to make a decision. My decision was to start shooting. Running toward a guy holding a gun takes some REAL stones, esp if you're armed only with a knife and the other guy has a gun. Hell, I'd have never had to start shooting if they'd had enough sense to just BACK UP! If my comments are unwelcome here, I'll let you guys get back to your theorizing. |
V User ID: 298945 United States 09/16/2007 10:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | God help me for what I'm about to say but.... I agree with Duncan Kunz on this one. Forget this 9mm craze.... the problem with 9mm is the rounds are too high velocity...the slug will usually pass right THROUGH the target you intend to 'stop'. A good non-jamming .38 revolver or a 12 gauge shotgun are your BEST home defense weapons. Ask a cop or a gun shop owner someone who actually KNOWS something about guns and doesn't just claim to know a thing or two about them by playing Dirty Harriet or weekend GI Joe and they'll tell you the same thing.
