EAstern Sky. this was before the first light. Definitely getting brighter then dimmer. The weather is crystal clear. I felt like i couldn't look away. I want to know what it is. My eyes may be playing tricks but i swear it was dark in the center. I don't know though. It did pulsate when i first noticed it, but then it stopped. EAst sky of Georgia. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 26433353 Belgium 11/08/2012 08:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | However, now I stand corrected. On Thursday February 23rd 2012 This star appeared right to the left of the cresent moon almost directly on the same longitude and it was in fact brighter than the light the cresent moon shone. Something Ive never witnessed in my lifetime something actually being brighter than the moon when it shines any light. The other thing was it was huge much larger than a regular star would be in the sky. it appears before the moon by about 30 minutes and does not leave until the moon starts to leave our sight making it in rotation with the moon. Quoting: lucipher13 11499671 Ten seconds checking with a skymap program tells me you're looking at Venus. 23rd Feb - 43 deg north - left of the moon - very bright. Yup, Venus. If you've never seen Venus shining like that, I can only assume you've not spent much time looking at the sky. It gets like that regularly, and even if it's quite nice, it's nothing to get your knickers in a twist about. Yes this sounds bonckers but it aint Venus, mars, jupiter, sirius or the north star or part of the big dipper or orions belt as i can point each of those stars out any time of the year.I told my girlfriend about it and she isnt into stars but admits its impossible to not notice. Is this Nibaru?? is this a comet?? or is it just a supernova taking for ever to lose its light. Who knows Quoting: lucipher13 11499671 Why not take the time to find out, instead of making wild guesses. Try Stellarium or Google Sky - they'll identify anything you're looking at. All I can say it aint something we see on a regular basis and the media will not report it as noone wants anyone to panic over this as the government always hides this stuff. Quoting: lucipher13 11499671 LOL - and how do you stop hundreds of thousands of amateur astronomers round the workld from talking about it? If there was anything weird in the sky it would be big news. And not everyone takes their orders from the US - plenty of countries would be only to happy to expose something liek this if any government was trying to cover it up. Not very likely, since there's no such thing - although if you're one of the "believers" you'll no doubt be lying on your death bed saying "any day now..." |

DeborahCats User ID: 11869178 United States 11/27/2012 07:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | First time on this site. Trying to identify the bright planet (it's not twinkling, so I believe it is a planet -- starts twinkle, yes?) in the east both before and after 7pm eastern time. I'm in Florida, looking out over the 10,000 islands. I am seeing comments on this post that it is definitely Venus and definitely Jupiter. Hmmm. Was thinking Venus would be in the east, but I see some of you have knowledge that "she" moves around. Any more comments about what that planet is? And, by the way, has anyone else been taught that planets don't twinkle and stars do? That has served me well for decades, but it doesn't mean it is always true. Willing to correct any misconceptions! |
DeborahCats User ID: 11869178 United States 11/27/2012 07:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | PS Some of you seem quite angry at the rest of us. Are you just venting or what? I was kind of hoping for the beauty of the sky to bring us all joy in the midst of this difficult world. If profanity is the norm, I understand, and I can choose to leave the site. I'm just saying...... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 25282869 United States 01/17/2013 03:38 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nope, not a star. It's man-made as I saw it reposition over Missouri at 1815 hours on January 17, 2003. Same "star" as being described here as I have also been watching it, but I noticed tonight it moved from the northeast toward the southwest about the speed of a jet, stopped and then slowly moved westerly for a moment remaining in that position while making company with the other stars in the sky until moonset. I've also noticed that there is radiation showing up on weather radar (they look like meteors or spikes going shiftly across the United States) from the northeast toward the southwest about the time this thing first appears ... and it is NOT sun radiation at sunrise or sunset as the NWS describes. It's now 0224 hours and it's in the southern sky with a couple smaller multi-color stars in the east and the west of the huge white one. Trust me I went through all the star and planet movements too, it's just NOT that. |

David Z User ID: 51205356 United States 02/05/2014 11:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in Utah and for the past two mornings (around 7 AM) I've seen this extremely bright object - - star - - planet - - in the eastern sky. I took my binoculars out this morning and saw five distinct bright lights in a perfect horizontal line with the brightest light in the middle. This does not look like a planet with four moons.... It's not the ISS either. Does anyone know what it is? |
