Communicating after EMP attack, Solar Flare/Storm, Magnetic Pole Shift | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 602429 United States 02/17/2009 10:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When the grid goes down, you'll need: 1) food 2) water 3) weapons 4) fire 5) bicycle Communication is by mirror flash, fire at night, smoke signal, drum/noise and is limited in distance. Pharmaceuticals needed: access to willow trees and various herbs. You'll need boolits for sure... lots of boolits. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 394033 Lithuania 02/17/2009 10:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So, has anyone made plans in case electronic communications are lost? I was just thinking of the difficulty of reaching family and friends in the case of an EMP attack, solar flare/storm knocking out satellites, magnetic pole shift, etc. Quoting: SickscentSome of my family only live 1 hour away, but contacting them would be extremely difficult without a car to travel, and phones not working. A lot of communications systems are digital now, including telecommunications. On a side note, I walked by the pharmacy the other day and it hit me. ALL pharmaceutical files are digitized. Imagine the f-ed up chaos that will occur when those systems go offline with the amount of people using prescriptions! After the EMP radio messages will tarvel as well as before, all you have to do is find a working radio transmitter/receiver. Military equipment should be resistant to EMP to some level (at least the Harris seems imortal to me). |

Like having a plan. For example, if this scenario does come round, it might be much better to try and get to my brother's house than attempting to stay at my own. And if plans were made ahead of time, well... the situation could be much more successful than guessing who in your inner circle is going to do what. |

If the command structure remains intact they will be actively shutting down any 'unauthorized' channels in pursuit of full spectrum dominance. This means you might get whacked shortly after you fire up that transmitter. Therefore any equipment should be located away from people and infrastructure and utilize spread spectrum burst transmission. |

Any preparation for risk emergent large scale should take into account a plan for meeting and/or communication in the event of emergency. Not just immediate family, but friends, relatives, allies and anyone else who "needs to know". Before (if/when) electronic communications are null I think its best to exploit it as much as possible in the meantime. Social networking sites are excellent places potentially to hatch plans and plots for the future. Having a plan ready will definitely reduce stress and ease anxiety, even if its effect is only limitied. So also, I plan needs to be ready that admits plans don't often work. Creating situational awareness is also critical. In such cases, knowing what to do when communication seems impossible is radically important. |

I suggest that you research the model t. basically all you need is a way to put gas into the engine and have a spark. find something that will create a random continuous spark. like a fence charger?? It will run crap but it will beat walking. |

If I was aware of what family and friends were up to, and they were aware of what I am up to, etc. then plans to try and group together could be made more easily. Here is another example; say my parents do not believe that shit will hit the fan to the extent of no electronic communications. Shit does hit the fan, and now they are kind of lost as to what to do. So, what are they going to do? Most likely they will do what they are told to do when 'officials' come a knockin'. They get in line, wait for food, wait for water, wait for shelter not knowing that my family and my brother's family, and my sister's family are all on our way (because we decided this before-hand). All the parents had to do is sit tight for awhile (with their stock of rice/beans, water, etc.) and wait it out until other family members and friends group back together. I can't imagine if they left their house and other family members get there and see that they are gone with know way to communicate or track them down! |

I've always thought that moto-x or crossover motorcycle would by VERY VALUABLE to have, much more so than trying to maintain a car AND find/pay for fuel? |

Well then it up to you and you alone.Buy the communications device that they will need. Secure it in order to keep it functioning. Bury it win their backyard with out their knowlage with a letter inside of your intent and instructions on how to set it up and use it. Place a letter in a box of food that you know that they have but would not eat unless that was all that they had. Then they will find it and be able to locate the communications device that you left for them. A word of caution though. A family that is not on the same page as you are as far as preparedness is a danger to you. They will give you up. This is most important. You cannot save everyone. |

It is called skip. A cb is the cheapest radio to get.You can relay messages via other operators. You need to develop a code book with them in order to send a message that no one will understand, Also you now need to decide your handles (names)so that no one will know who you actually are. |

Did you know that you can use your enemy communication device as well? If you developed a code book ahead of time then this will work. Then when a message is needed to be broadcast then make an identifying mark on their vehicles. This could consist of say hitting their vehicles with a colored paint ball to correspond to a predetermined code. cool ? I hope that I have been helpful here today. I hope that you all keep safe. |
