Infanticide is only done in times of necessity. It is not something that is talked about. Its a horrific evil that is only done when it has to be done. However the exception should also exist for infants borne with serious defects. It is only ethical that accidents be dealt in this matter. Animals do this naturally so why is it so difficult for people to understand this? Sometimes it is the most humane decision despite the emotional cost.

Governments would say they should.

Define ''healthy mind''. Any person of healthy mind can do horrible things, such as in times of war for example.

Mothers/fathers kill infants all the time in the real world (nature). Siblings even kill each other if there is a lack of resources

I am in no way in favor of this. However it's been done. Is still being done. In the Western world, we're spoiled, and used to not having to make hard choices. But imagine you're a woman who already has five or six children and all of them are hungry and you are too, and you're pregnant again (no birth control). You try to abort, not because you don't want the baby but because you've got two children still on the breast and three others under the age of five. It fails, and you give birth to yet another child; so now you've got three who need the breast, and you're starving yourself already so you can feed the ones you've got. The children you've already named, who you are attached to, are starving too. It's very likely that one (or maybe more) will die of hunger. You've got to choose. They can't all live. What are you going to do? Let the children you already know and have named die, or put the newborn out on the rocks or into the river?

Nature is rough, but it has its reasons. We've overshot the balance and gotten used to having most of our children grow up. It was not this way for most of human history. Women would have six, eight, twelve children, and count themselves lucky (assuming they lived through the births) to see two or three grow to adulthood.

It's time we came to grasp this brutal reality. If we do not correct ourselves, nature will do it for us. It always has and always will, and the longer we put it off, the uglier it will be.

That's why everyone should have access to free birth control and abortion on demand. The alternative IS infanticide and/or starvation. Sorry. It's cruel, but true.

Any woman who would kill her own child is insane. She must be protected from her insanity, and so must her child.

I am generally anti-adoption (especially the way it's handled now), but this is a case in which adoption should be strongly considered.

However, adoption even in these cases should be handled the way that Australia handles it, NOT the way that the USA does.

I'm a woman, and in general I really detest children- but are you out of your effing mind?

I believe in the right to choose an abortion in the first trimester or two, but to kill a child?

A child that is born is a full human being with the right to exist. If a mother can't care for a child she should have thought of that before she got pregnant in the first place. If she has a child she can't care for, why not just leave it at a church or hospital.

Infanticide is a horror that does not belong in the 21st century, and take this FWIW from someone who can't stand kids.
