Interesting results. ...480 You think NASA would tell us the truth IF a big rock was calculated to hit the Earth. I sure as hell don't. Think about the mass panic. I believe if an asteroid was to impact Earth - they'd keep it quiet and let it hit because they are such sadistic bastards who want to inflict mass genocides: Rahm Emanuel: "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste" [link to www.thegeorgiaguidestones.com] If it collides in the ocean they'll probably say it was something BS "like an underground earthquake caused the massive tsunamis" and silence all the whistle blowers who say it was an asteroid. If it hits a city, well...good luck on covering that one up. Last Edited by ~^PropHeTic^~ on 11/08/2011 06:24 AM ^PropHeTic^ |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 4921629 United States 11/08/2011 10:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Okay, look, you idiots. He assumes that the distance from the object to the Earth is linear, because their trajectories can be approximated by linear functions. This is stupid. Consider a straight line going by a point. The distance from the line to the point gets smaller and smaller, but it slows down. Eventually the distance from the line to the point isn't even changing! AND THEN THE OBJECT GETS FARTHER AWAY. Notwithstanding the assumption that the trajectories are linear, this analysis ASSUMES THE OBJECT PASSES THROUGH THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. Otherwise the assumption that the distance is a linear function of time is bunkum. Please stop believing this shit. If you use a model that assumes linear trajectories and modifies the data so that a best fit line fits a straight trajectory past Earth, not only does the Earth stay at the distance claimed from the Earth, but the regression fits, with an r^2=0.99997. The data from JPL shows approach speed decaying much faster BECAUSE THE OBJECT IS NOT GOING TO HIT THE EARTH. |

Quoting: Canadian Coward 2027328 It is part of the calculations. 1. Who are these people? 2. What do they know about instantaneous pulls and thrusts, that can be influenced even by the tiniest of movements of the stellar bodies, leave alone the daily rotation/revolution of the earth/and-or/the moon/xxxxx bodies we don't know about???? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 4918185 Spain 11/08/2011 01:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | GET THIS PEOPLE! WHEN MEASURING THE DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO HEAVENLY BODIES, THE MEASUREMENTS ARE MADE FROM THE MIDDLE OF ONE BODY TO THE MIDDLE OF THE OTHER BODY. OP CALCULATES A DISTANCE FROM THE EARTH TO YU55 AS 3904 MILES, CENTER TO CENTER. THE DIAMETER OF THE EARTH IS 7923 MILES. IF YOU TAKE 1/2 OF THE EARTH'S DIAMETER WHICH IS EQUAL TO 3861 MILES (THE DISTANCE FROM THE CENTER TO THE EDGE) AND 1/2 OF THE DIAMETER OF YU55 WHICH IS EQUAL TO 650 FEET OR APPROX. 1/9 OF A MILE, THEN YOU BASICALLY HAVE A MISS DISTANCE OF 43 FEET. FACTOR IN ATMOSPHERIC DRAG, AND YOU HAVE IMPACT PEOPLE! IMPACT! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4465388 FULL CAPS IMPACT.... Had it been lowercase I would have said, mmmmkay so what, but CAPS!!! DOOM ON, WERE SCREWED! P.S. you do make a valid point about centre to centre measurement. |

So fucktards like you know about the moon's gravity/pull from way down here by sitting on your workstation?? WTF @ you retard.. And the JPL sim shows the passage while the moon skims a couple of way too many degrees???? Is this a 4 hour affair or days long?? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4933387 WTF @ you retard.. Actually we first figured the moon's gravity by examining how it affected the motion of the earth, by measuring how far away the earth-moon barycenter is from the center of the earth. That's been known for a long, long time now. Try to keep up. And the JPL sim shows the passage while the moon skims a couple of way too many degrees???? Quoting: ACA couple of way too many degrees? What is that even supposed to mean? There's nothing wrong with the moon's motion in the JPL sim, in fact it looks almost exactly like my sim. |
