I am doing a little experiment here to prove a point. Same here and I'm more than surviving, I'm thriving! The trick is to embrace minimalism and be full of gratitude. I think the gratitude is the key, because a life full of gratitude is not focused on want, and is full filled whether rich or poor. Personally, I have a lot of stuff accumulated through the years, but my wants are minimal. We have lived on one income for decades, but eat very well, vacation, buy what we want and need and really don't lack for anything of significance. I believe that prosperity is elastic and will stretch in response to a heart and mind full of gratitude. I do not believe that prosperity is dependent on a lot of money, but rather is a state of mind. At one time in my life I was very poor and I used to read the Sermon on the Mount over and over to turn my mind from fear and lack toward God's goodness and generosity. The exercise in faith building helped me immensely to understand more about wealth, prosperity, gratitude and fearlessness and to live a satisfied and contented life. *** Good deeds bring rewards, bad actions bring troubles. That is a law of the universe. *** |

No house payment or rent (I manage an apartment complex and have my rent paid for). I have pretty much everything I need and still put money away every month towards savings/retirement. My earnings are perfect for my current lifestyle, but realize that with a money sucking wife and kids it would be unsustainable. Now we make over 200,000, and yes it sounds like a lot, but with higher tax bracket, we had to get a bigger house, we got better cars. Because working on a car every week or month, was getting old, and costing a lot. With the bigger house comes more electric, more gas, more water, we actually take vacations now, eat a little better. Better clothes, etc... But now we can actually save for retirement,. And have money of the cars break down. Or something in the house breaks, or kids needs medical care, dentist etc... Point being when you make.more you spend more, rather you want to or not, your taxes will go up, you will find yourself buying things, that you use to. Couldnt afford, you migjt eat better. Etc... I know people think I live on 40, 50, 60 a year, if I had 200 000 a year I would save all that extra money, yes, you would save some but I guarantee you would also spend more than you do now. I've been in both worlds, and I like the higher income better, but I know I can survive in the lower income again of I had to. |
