One of the many many things I love about GLP is that nothing gets by you guys! The news is always here first. So at the risk of sounding like a moran, is this why the sun is setting in a more south westerly direction as opposed to due west?

Wow, just wow. I'm glad I was nice on the "My compass is off" thread. GLP rocks, everyone is so far ahead of the curve!

One of the many many things I love about GLP is that nothing gets by you guys! The news is always here first. So at the risk of sounding like a moran, is this why the sun is setting in a more south westerly direction as opposed to due west?

It's not only the magnetic pole that shifts. The Inuit eskimo elders confirmed last year that the Earth is physically shifting as well...

Astrometry reveals that at 1:1 scale, the image angular resolution is 51.32 arcseconds per pixel:

Polaris coordinates precessed to 2010 are 02h 43m 44.22s, 89d 18' 25.7" so it should have an offset from the north celestial pole of 2494.3 arcseconds. I measure Polaris to be 48.5 pixels offset from the north celestial pole in this image.

That equates to an offset of 2489.02 arcseconds, well within the resolution of the photo itself. It doesn't get more accurate than that using this technique. Conclusion? The north celestial pole is right where it should be.

Moving 40 miles a year and when does it figure it will stop? I'm trying to find out if we are going to be the new equator, sorry Europe you are going to be the new North Pole. Sweet does that mean NE United States will be the equator?!! Don't know if my skin can handle that much sun, LOL.

It's called seasonal change; the sun doesn't set or rise in the same place every day, it appears to move along the ecliptic over the course of the year. At winter solstice, the sun will rise and set at about the point where -23.44 degrees declination meets your local horizon (if indeed it meets it at all depending on your location on earth). For most of those of us living in the northern hemisphere that will mean the sun sets in a south westerly direction.
