Still asking about this, I guess? Gehenna was never "a Greek word for hell" - it was the name of a landfill. It's like telling someone they'll become fish food or wind up on a milk carton. There's no implication about one's afterlife.

Centuries after the Greek text was first recorded, English translators decided "Hmm, this must mean Hell" and changed it because they thought that's what God meant.

Yeah, no. This thread is about the need for accurate translations from the original Greek and Hebrew texts. They changed a couple of key words, and it's changed the message drastically. Correcting centuries of church-sponsored pagan-fabricated bullshit is pretty important.

He's not blabbing BS. . .he's presenting truth that was swept under the rug back in a back room hundreds of years ago. The early christian fathers believed in the eventual redemption of everyone. Only when Rome took over did this view suddenly become "heresy", and Hellfire became the Church's favorite place. Universal reconciliation is not some "new" thing. It's just unfamiliar to mainstream believers due to Religion's monopoly, now in a state of decay.

Word is that Augustine was *the* doctrinal champion of Hellfire, a belief he came into from studying the Latin-translated scriptures instead of the original Greek.
The introduction of Latin into the mix caused some serious problems. . .this is why our KJV translates the Greek word aion ("an age") as both "ever" and "world", terms which convey completely different meanings , distorting our understanding of what God is trying to convey.

The Dark Ages are stained with accounts of torture and burning of "heretics" for "offenses" as slight as refusing to swear loyalty to the Pope, even for just owning a bible. This coincides with the dominance of Roman Catholicism. They had no problem tormenting "sinners" because they fully believed God would eventually do exactly the same - they only copied their "god".

Meanwhile, Universalism received a lot of airtime in the 1800s. It was also during this era (which I've read is history's era of the Philadlphia church in Revelation 3) that some of the great missionary programs were begun, in an effort to spread the gospel - not the threats of everlasting destruction.

Origen, Didymus and Greg of Nyssa are notable early scholars whose teachings include the eventual reconciliaton of all.

It essentially means "I can do whatever I want, and there is no punishment for my behavior." You are wrong.
