I see this thread somehow got pinned again. I buggered off on page 8 or something because it was one giant stalemate.

And nothing has changed, idiots are still posting statements that were proven wrong pages ago. Nobody acknowledges anyone else's information.

I'm glad I haven't been following this closely, because the less often I'm here, the less often I have to repeat myself.

SO lets go over a few established facts, so the morons just tuning in now don't embarrass themselves.

Allow me to sum up-

* All subway station platforms have emergency power cut switches. If you debate this, you are a moron. It is a necessary safety control for track operations and maintenance. They may not always be clearly marked but they are always there. In most subway systems, they are clearly marked so anyone can use them in an emergency.

* There is ONE article on Gothamist, where MTA claimed the emergency shutoff was "inaccessible". HOWEVER, every other article on the incident describes the station clerk as having to run to and activate the switch himself. They even describe where he had to run to the end of the platform and into the tunnel a few feet to find it. And if he didn't throw the switch, who did? Infidel, if you're still crapping up this forum, I'll link you those articles.

* NYC does NOT advertise these power cutoff switches because they do not want people fucking with them. Sucks to be a New Yorker, since most other subway systems have them clearly marked.

* The reason OTHER subway systems can have emergency power cutoffs that anyone can access, and don't have them abused every day, is because they are punishable by heavy fines and imprisonment. If you abuse the emergency shutoff, they find you on camera, lock down the station so you can't leave, and throw you in jail. That is why we have clearly marked power cut boxes in Toronto, but nobody fucks with them. We can also somehow afford to put cameras on them.

* They are generally located on the inside wall of the subway tunnel, usually 1-3 feet from where the platform ends. Good subways have them ON the platform and clearly marked so people can get at them.

* REGARDLESS of where the power cut switches are located, EVERYONE should know where they are. YOU DO NOW!! FUCKING REMEMBER IT!! What if it was an old lady with a motorized wheelchair who fell on the tracks? Shit could derail a train and take out the whole goddamn platform.

As usual, everyone is partly right and mostly wrong.

i'm in that subway station almost every day...and nothing much happens.

i've been riding the NY subway for over 30 years, and if there's a third rail cutoff button it's news to me. as far as i know they can only shut sections of it off from inside a locked room...it's not like an escalator, that anyone can shut off with a button.
why did i send myself to this world?? there must have been a reason.

why would someone post some morbid stuff like this?!?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10077834

I don't know, some people get off on it. Even the ones who are all teary and sad about it are getting off on it in their own morbid way.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1369739

hmmm...I think having this thread on here has not only shown the highly strung people and rude people up but also perhaps HOPEFULLY made everyone else think about what they would do... how they would react in an emergency.

Some people might even research how to deal with electrocution... how to deal with an emergency in a subway etc etc..

It is a macabre subject... the video was gruesome (I didn't watch it) but it is sadly part of life.... :o(

I was sad about it but I certainly did not get any morbid satisfaction from it. It brings back memories I don't want... and no one needs.

I think what it does do is highlight the fact that WE ALL NEED TO be preppers in more than just having bottled water and a tent... prep for emergency care too....

OF COURSE he would.... But you don't KNOW who the chap is or what his intentions are do you? It's not 'normal' to be IN the track... Everyone fears it...

we are guessing he was drunk... he may have been off his head or in the middle of an ecited delerium episode... 4 men wouldn't have been able to have helped him in that case...

We only have a mobile 'phone video and some hearsey to go by with this one...

How do YOU know that people didn't go for help? Did you watch the actions of the hundreds of people who were on the platforms, or did you just observe the victim and the few people within camera range?

I have also said time and again that none of us know what REALLY happened as the video started and ended when the camera man felt like it... we don't know what REALLY happened.

And as far as I know I have every right to say anything I please unless the GLP rules have changed.

Don't be angry with ME... I wasn't the one who filmed this to get YouTube hits!

Its funny all the comments people are making but what if this was your son? or a close family member? I always find it funny how people can watch a video of someone losing their life and make stupid comments like "the train was late" or "no sparks" or say "nothing disturbing in this video" I mean what a bunch of retards.

YOU SIR, ARE A MORAN.

Turning off the switch would not have saved him even if you did it in time. Those lines run on Direct Current and shutting them off would not discharge them. You can shut them off and then walk up and thouch them an hour later AND YOU ARE DEAD.

I was like WTf why isn't hey smoking. Then I was skipping true the video and saw the smoke.

but to be serious. Why didn't they pushed the bloody Emergency button. to cut of the power.

yes, its clear from the video there was enough time for someone to push the power cut off button.

all those on the platform that day committed murder.

using common sense, and todays technology why not have a VERY prominent 'smash in case of emergency' that alerts on coming drivers or emergency crew as to someone on the track... albeit with a hefty fine and a camera covering it in case of fraud?... they do it on the streets....

How do YOU know that people didn't go for help? Did you watch the actions of the hundreds of people who were on the platforms, or did you just observe the victim and the few people within camera range?

You have no right to say that "no one did anything but gawp" because you could not see what was going on behind or to the left of the person with the camera.

Yes, It's likely someone did go up for help.

I used that station years ago, and that particular station is a long ways down from the street, and underneath another crossing train line, it might take two minutes just to walk up.

Just as sad are the dumbfucks yelling at him to move after he hit the tracks. Guy was dead the second he touched the tracks.

Hmmm....I wasn't aware of the planned attack either, and I spent a week in the city during the RNC convention in 2004 as a volunteer. I rode the PATH and subways all week before attending the convention on Thursday.

oh why didn't someone pull him up, murderers!!!!

keeeerist idiot.

I worked for a company in Kali and in a division where I worked with a LOT of people trained what to do and what NOT to do around high power.

Two guys were working on a power sub-station. One fell through some rotted plywood and got electricuted.

The other one, forgetting all his training to save his buddy, tried to get him out.

He too died.

You don't mess with high voltage - it is more powerful than you - you will die.
