Well to be perfectly frank, 'acceptable treatments' for the ailment are the tip O the iceberg.

But if I suggest anything illegal, I get flamed, or worse; the person takes my advice and does not go about it intelligently.

Imagine the problem was due to a 'wound up' KundalinI for example. What can a medical doctor do about that? What will they TRY to do about it?

My very first thought was something which would most likely not be taken well and I can understand why. But is it said that Electro-convulsive therapy is beneficial in cases of severe and debilitating depression.

I have heard it's a bit like a re-boot to the brain. But after the horrors psychiatrist have visited on the mentally ill just over the last 100 years or so, causes me to not want to suggest that.

It's very sad to hear of someone suffering so completely like that. I was also going to suggest Cannabis as well, but that can make people paranoid in some cases and might worsen the situation. As it is a mild hallucinogen.
