If you want to give up, you WILL give up - note the all-caps on the word will. But you really have to want to, otherwise you're just kidding yourself.

I gave up March this year within 3 weeks of getting an e-cig. Worked for me, might not for you. But anyways, I dumped a nearly 30 year old habit - 2 x 30gm rollie packets a week - Now with that extra money, I'm almost an alcoholic! Yay! Dratted addictions.

I quit in June 2012. I had been smoking pretty religiously for 25 years. I had the pertussis (whooping cough) in early June. I'll tell you what, it scared the living fuck out of me. Thought that I'd contracted lung cancer.

I quit smoking immediately. I use vapor smokes now. I also save approximately $200 a month now and feel so much better.

Good on you for quitting. It's one of the best things I have done.

Gotcha beat. I quit for 17 years and all it took was ONE puff and I was hooked again.

Stopped about 18 months ago with the help of e-cigs and I'll never go back.

Good luck.

Walk, snack on pretzels, stay busy. Some say a sip of cranberry juice helps the urge temporarily. Try anything.

Smoked for years and years and it was having bad effects on my breathing so trying to quit. Took Chantix for nine days, then said to hell with meds, and going it alone. Haven,t had a Marlboro for over two weeks, how -ever I do get the urge several times a day, but the urge is getting farther apart and easier to get past. Wish me luck. Maybe this can become, "SMOKERS ANONYMOUS" thread.

I quit almost 2 years ago. It is tough, but after 3 days it is all mental. Remember this, we former smokers are addicts. We cannot ever have one cig, or chew...if you do your addiction will return to the level you were when you quit! There is nothing positive that tobacco brings to your life. It brings sickness, cancer and death. BTW I smoked for over 30 years. I am so happy I quit while I am still healthy!

Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
After 15 years of smoking, I tried quiting with Chantix about 5 years ago and it worked for about 3 months until I went to a party. The issue was that I still wanted to smoke very badly and when the opportunity was there I took it. Since then I just resigned myself to the fact that I was a smoker.

This past February I moved into a new place and my neighbors were visibly disgusted by my smoking, and so over time I didn't smoke as much at home. Now I am down to 2 or 3 cigs per day. The morning coffee cig, the end of my work day cig, and my "nightcap" before bed. On days I don't work I just have the morning and night one. Now the morning one is getting to be much longer after waking up and sometimes not at all as I'd rather sleep a little longer.

For me, it just phased itself out over time. If I would've TRIED I would've failed, because I would place too much pressure on myself. I did this with drinking too. 6 years ago I was a daily drinker and had trouble sleeping if I didn't drink. I got sick, was on medication that I wasn't allowed to drink with and broke my routine. I tried to drink a few times, but let me tell you, alcohol on chemo just makes you sicker!

So I guess I don't have any tricks other than you just have to be ready to be finished and then quit. I find I don't really enjoy it anymore, so why am I wasting the money? I guarantee though if I put my mind to it to "quit" the few I do smoke I will probably not succeed, so I will let myself naturally quit.

Congrats to everyone who has done it with their own methods! It proves that you have ultimate control over your existance!

Thanks so much for your story of eventual success. DF
 Quoting: Desert Fox

Well, its not complete success yet, but I have broken the mental need. I remember how panicked I would get if realized I didn't have enough for the whole night and the gas station was closed, lol. Now the pack is so old and beat up, I don't even finish it before I toss it out. The box will be falling apart and the cigs have that bottom of the purse double mint gum flavor.

Just wanted to offer a big CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!! to all the quitters on here.

I will be joining you shortly and will re-visit this thread. My quit date got extended due to a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder. Cannot deal with the pain and meds and sitting without a smoke. Heping to reset the quit date for a couple of weeks out, as the pain gets under control.

Good for you!

Same here...smoked for 17 years...at least a pack a day and then felt pain in the chest/lungs. I stopped, realizing that smoking was so foolish. I look at smokers now and wonder why I did it. If I can do it, you can!
