Rockets were launched at Tel Aviv on Thursday, marking the first time such an attack has happened since 1991. Israel appeared poised to move ground troops into Gaza. While violence escalated in the Middle East, tensions were flaring on the streets of New York City, too. The NYPD had the entire area around the Israeli consulate blocked off Thursday night. There was also increased security at Israeli government facilities and synagogues all over the city, CBS 2’s Jessica Schneider reported. Anonymous Coward User ID: 27711841 United States 11/15/2012 11:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I may be wrong, my understanding of the history of this region is a bit poor, but I was of the opinion that Syria was involved in the largest tank battle in history with Egypt and Syria versus Israel. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27748890 Admittedly things may be very different today though, care to fill me in? Yes. lots of gear was put in the region post WWII. The whole region was a chessboard for people who had so much money, sex, titles and domestic power, they needed something to bring the thrill back. running wars does that. And every culture has a psychopathic 1% of the population who will elevate themselves to war cheif. conflicting religion, resources, land is usually just the scapegoat. All they need is a shadowy benefactor and toys. The only difference we have now is that armor is largely worthless. this thing will be completely asymmetric. tanks are standoff (slug it out) weapons. |

Steve, it would seem only prudent to maintain a bit of heightened awareness regardless where in the US one may currently be. This weekend, but especially with football, Black Friday, parades, etc. as next week closes. Anonymous Coward User ID: 27748890 United Kingdom 11/15/2012 11:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | they seriously demoralize them. Non stop...in a manner of speaking. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24145634 Hamas, Islamic Jihad, PRC, PFLP, al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigade and smaller al-Qaeda affiliates... couldn't care less. Right now they are hiding under-ground & among Gaza civilian human shields. Jihadis even use hospitals & UN ambulances to get around - just like they did during Castlead. So not only do they not care about how "demoralized" regular Palestinians are, they are praying for AS MANY Pali women & children to die as collateral damage as possible --- so as to make Israel look bad in PR department. Needless to say, with modern techology, Jihadis can coomuniate and strike from the shadows much more easily than even in years past. Thanks to Western & Israeli technology. The irony. That is why they need groung deployeent to get the rat our fo their holes. Actually a ground invasion at this point would be catastrophic for the western nations involved. The "rats" are hiding under ground and they wont come out till the west is in range for small arms fire, RPG's etc. From what I'm seeing the west is watching Gaza with drone surveillance and bombing any positions where the Palestinian guerrilla fighters appear from, they need to lower the numbers of guerrilla combatants or the price will be very high for any invading ground army. If the Israelis wanted too they could level the entire Gaza strip but the civilian price would be high and that appears to be what they are avoiding. A few destroyed tanks and sniped IDF troops and the Palestinian civilians might be inclined to swarm on the invaders. The west is encouraging Hamas to show their faces, and when they do, they'll get shelled/rocketed, when the IDF feels that enough of the fighters are wiped out they will move in, but they wont dive straight into a potential hornets nest. |

Quoting: BrotherNature (i see a huge chunk of israel outside my window) BrotherNature, I asked you nicely before. Please do NOT do live streaming or any kind of streaming. By doing so, you could potentially be helping Gaza missile launchers better RANGE their targets inside Israel. Do you, like, NOT know the basics about Internet, especially during war-time??? Please don't make me report you. |

Tanks still have a role, albeit diminished since WW2. You cannot occupy an area with missiles and jets, you need land troops for that, and an occupational force tasked with repressing a recently invaded population requires tanks to instil fear in said population. Also WTF was that on the loud speaker, sounded like a big one! |
