Re: Boston Mayor declares public health emergency after flu outbreak
I'm wondering how many of the people who have died got the H1N1 shot 3 years ago which was shown to weaken the immune system.

Then they got the flu shot this year & bang, killer flu.

The pandemic that was feared 3 years ago is here.
 Quoting: mopar28m

It's all natural. They don't cover all the flu strains in the shot, so something mutated and got worse.

It's a pattern that will continue, each flu season will be worse than the last in terms of casualties we have run out of tools with which to treat the secondary infections.

I would suggest everyone take the flu shot and hope that the scientists made the right guess about which strains would be most prevalent......because those will be the strains in the shot.

If you get the flu and its a A-variant ...... Your in big trouble and may not survive.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24909641

shill

Vit. D3 was proven to be 800% more effective in fighting the flu than the flu shot according to a study done in Tokyo.

I"ve never gotten the flu shot & I don't get the flu.
 Quoting: mopar28m

Mopar, firstly you are very one-eyed on this topic,

Secondly vitamin D is very expensive so although ideal to take, it is perhaps unrealistic for everyone to take 10,000 ius a day. And most working people or city dwellers simply don't have the opportunity to sun bake an hour a day.

Thirdly penty of people have never had a flu shot but still get the flu and alot of them require antibiotics to help them clear secondary infections.

I have had the flu twice and had never had a flu shot prior to those events.

How do you explain the spread and casualty rate of the Spanish flu. No, please don't write me off as a shill, please answer that question first. A vaccine wasn't available yet millions of people died from that killer.

Mopar please, you must know that you have been at the forefront of the anti vaccine movement here on GLP for years and years and years. You have and continue to influence people not to take vaccines for anything.

In some cases we are talking about life/death or permanent disability as a result of getting the disease.

You may not have travelled much, you may not live in a big city, you may not even be American or anybody who lives the developed world......we simply don't know that much about you except you always promote no vaccines. We have to take a leap of faith that you are truly impartial in your opinion.

Everything I say is equally open to conjecture, but when you look at the failure of antibiotics which is so important in surviving an A- type flu I understand why taking the vaccine is being encouraged.

Are vaccines safe? I'm not a scientist so I don't know for sure about their long term effects on health, but I do know the flu has a pretty dramatic effect on your short term health, especially if you get a typeA.

Re: Boston Mayor declares public health emergency after flu outbreak
guys, its about billions of dollars you can own with such flu vaccine shits!

no wonder there is a fight over it going on.

remember the highly infective and mostly lethal h5n1 clone which was mutated in a dutch laboratory last year?
the one the us government didnt want publicised because of the fear terrorists could use em?

WHAT IF THIS CLONE WILL SIMPLY BE USED TO MAKE PROFIT?(which would happen via pharma industries; more specific FLU VACCINE PRODUCERS)

which country would it be that used this clone to make profit?
probably that one which has the most agressive and advanced form of market economy?

you know what...this FLU problem as well as most of the other disease problems today are fabricated.
in addidtion...even IF SOMEONE HAS FOUND A CURE TO A DISEASE....that does not mean the public will be provided with it!!!!

it could be provided with it....IF IT PAYS!

ask yourself:
when is a cancer patient interesting for pharamcy?

when he gets curey immediately?
or mabe when he just keeps living BUT needs to USE my vaccine till the end of his life?

so do they really want us healthy?
as a pharma company you do not make profit with healthy people.

i'd trust my cheating wife more than i'd trust the pharma industry.

amen.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2225987

I understand what you are saying especially when it comes to treating disease, there seems to be a big profit in it, however there doesn't seem to be much profit in the development of vaccines.

As a result fewer and fewer vaccines are being developed.

I had type A, it hit extremely fast.

I went into the dojang to teach class & felt a bit tired -- by the end of class I felt like I had been beaten with an iron pipe. Husband took me to the Er where I tested positive. The doctor told me that this flu is a mutated hybrid of swine/avian/human flu.

Some seriously nasty stuff. I am still tiring very easily & it has been nearly 3 weeks now.

As for the idea that they dream up new diseases with the express intention of wiping out billions of people, well they don't really have to ... All they need to do is stop treating the diseases we have and you get the same result.

How do you explain the spread and casualty rate of the Spanish flu. No, please don't write me off as a shill, please answer that question first. A vaccine wasn't available yet millions of people died from that killer.

First, Vit. D3 is NOT that expensive. You can get about 100 tablets from Wal-Mart for $8. Fairly cheap at Walgreens & GNC also. You want to get the really good stuff, goto homefirst.com. You can get them with probiotics in them.

Second, I have lived in Iowa all of my life. I mainly travel to Duluth, MN in November of each year. This summer I took 3 teens on a 17 day, 3,100 mile road trip that covered states like Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, Tennesssee, Missouri & then back to Iowa. Visited a former GLp'er & a couple of other online friends.

Third, yes I have been at the forefront of the anti-vaccine movement on here. Any regrets? No. I spend hours a week helping people with opting out of vaccines. Getting beyond their employers "get the flu shot or else" agenda. And helping parents get their kids into school with the exemption forms. 20 years of reading books, reading papers written by doctors who are against vaccines, attending seminars & webinars by doctors who are part of the anti-vaccine movement & also seeing trends of flu shot receipients & people still dying from the flu anyway.

Fourth, the Spanish flu didn't have a vaccine? Umm, the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic was caused by vaccines. Everyone who got a vaccine died from the flu as a result.

Will I take the flu shot? Absolutely not. There are toxic levels of mercury in it - 25 mcg to be exact. According to EPA standards you would have to weigh 550 lbs. to get that much mercury in one shot.

Prior to taking 10,000 IU daily of Vit. D3, I would get sick every 4-6 weeks for 7-10 days. I've been taking D3 for almost 5 years & I haven't been sick since. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Listen, hospitals and medical centers are dirty places. I hope that makes sense to most people. You have a concencentrated amount of sick people in a small place. A lot of workers are negligent about staying clean while they preach handwashing. A lot of people end up getting sicker in hospitals because they acquire another infection. It's a dirty secret called nosocomial infections. A likely issue is getting a urinary tract infection after going in.
[link to www.healio.com]
The link above is discussing nosocomial infections that created Atypical Pneumonia acquired inside a hospital.

While everyone likes to have company when in the medical center, think twice and send a note or better yet when they come home, offer to do housework, chores, and bring over a meal. Sick people need sleep, and the health care workers and support staff might enter a room up to 20 times a day to take vitals, bring in meals, clean, draw blood, dispense pills, etc.

There are few isolation wards in medical centers. They are very expensive to maintain and operate. This means when you're in a medical wing, often MED/SURG then you're breathing everyone's germs including visitors. The air handling units try to filter out germs with special filtration (HEPA and silver ionization) but it's imperfect and can't isolate well, not without special sanitary barriers and piped in oxygen.

Take it seriously. Buy some supplies before you get sick. Don't waste money, be prudent and buy things you would actually use. There's lots of good tips on GLP on how to self-treat.

If you learn more about the illnesses that are going around, then you know better how to treat yourself the 99% of the time that care is going on. You see a doc for minutes. You care for yourself the rest of the time. There are four things going around not one. This has confused a lot of people. Get educated about your symptoms so you can best communicate them and therefore help the doc discover what is your illness, not what everyone else has. They could easily prescribe the wrong meds because they mix up respiratory Influenza with a bacterial case of Staph aureus that's affecting your respiratory tract as well as causing mild stomach flu.

Think I'm wrong? Most people, even the journalist reporting in the link above didn't seperate out Norovirus, Influenza A, Staph aureus, Atypical Pneumonia, Whooping Cough. All of that is going around.

Ever heard of Mullien?
You make a tea from it?
Some of you might find it in health food stores... or specialty tea stores...

Myself I find it wild here in Eastern, Ky

It is the BEST natural remedy for all lung infections, sinus problems and colds.

I've never seen it in stores... but I know they sell it... you can find it online...

for reference here is a wikipedia link

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

For reference purposes
here is a place online that sells it... i've never ordered from this site... i have no need it grows wild around me... i gather it throughout the year and dry and store it..

[link to www.mulleintea.net]

The tea they are selling above... may not be as awesome as the wild plants that grow here...

I cant afford doctors visits when i get sick but i can pluck weeds out of the ground and make tea off them haha

I've noticed that mullien has a similar taste as to peppermint leaves... but is a super awesome and i would have surely died from pneumonia if not for it.

Bad flu season worsens as Boston declares emergency

The bad season has been blamed on an especially virulent flu strain, the A H3N2 strain. Another A strain, H1N1, and two influenza B strains are also causing illness. Vaccines prepared for this year are a good match for three of the viruses, although one strain of influenza B is not covered by the vaccine and may be accounting for 8 percent to 10 percent of flu cases, according to infectious disease experts.

And, if you have not been taking your fat-soluble secosteroids regularly and you do get the flu, the fat soluble cannabinoids could save your life

In flu, what kills otherwise healthy young people is the so called "cytokine storm" when the immune system goes out of control, producting so many inflamatory proteins they damage the lungs and heart:
[link to www.nature.com]

Cannabis can help moderate that:
[link to ebm.rsmjournals.com]

Thus, it is highly likely that the consumption of marijuana and cannabinoids modulates the cytokine network

Re: Boston Mayor declares public health emergency after flu outbreak
I'm an RN here in Kentucky. We've had several cases of Influenza show up on our unit. We have to take the usual precautions-gloves, plastic gown and N95 Mask. Mostly seen older folks with underlying issues end up in the hospital. Although there have been a few pediatric cases.
This year's vaccine is >90% effective in covering the various strains. That's pretty dang good. The big culprit is H3N2, but there have been a few H1N1 cases starting to fire up.

I know most of you guys are anti vaccine, and that's fine, but at least consider it or at least stock up on Vitamin D and C. I think this will be the worst epidemic of Flu in decades after it's all said and done with.

Also, I've heard that some are comparing this to the spanish flu, or worse, Captain Trips, LOL. But this is mostly a hard hitting deal that moves in quick and usually moves out in good fashion. As I mentioned, we are mostly hospitalizing older folks with bad underlying issues such as COPD or recent history of Pneumonia. They usually end up on Tamiflu and start feeling much better within 3-4 days.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this subject Mopar. Where I live in Australia vitamin D supplements (ostelin) run to $35.00 for 250 capsules. That is rather a lot of money to me, although I appreciate that things in US are cheaper.

The Spanish Flu pathogen wasn't identified until 1933, the flu surfaced in 1918, so there was no "Spanish flu" vaccine available for the 50 million people who died of it.

I for one found the sites that you referenced interesting but unconvincing, but that is just me.

Everyone should be informed by their own experience and knowledge.

Cannabis can help moderate that:

Thus, it is highly likely that the consumption of marijuana and cannabinoids modulates the cytokine network

Don't smoke it, of course, consume it orally, or vape.

Cannabis is illegal in a lot of places, just saying!

I think I caught a flu a couple weeks ago. I couldn't tell cuz it was so mild, it didn't really interfere with my daily routine stuff except for a few days that I had no appetite and sweated my ass off while sleeping at nights for several days.

It was very mild compared to what I got in the past.

Vitamin D definitively kept flu from getting too severe for me.
