They won't be "asked" to pay, they'll be told.
And they'll be "allowed" to sublet.

Geezuz, being a subject must be nauseating.
 Quoting: Professor Xavier

Bear in mind this only applies to government subsidised housing. You own your house you can have ten spare bedrooms if you like. Imagine it was across the board though, think of the bill for Buckingham palace
 Quoting: NSF001

Exactly. There really is no problem. If you are going to take from the government then the government should be able to tell you what to do. People in government housing should be thankful they even have a roof over their heads. Or if they aren't then they could live in a shelter or on the streets.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123

maybe that is where the next riot will come from. from the disenfranchised scroungers who feel that after years of free living, now are having the rug swept out from under their feet, and they will be pissed!!!!!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23956419

I am sure the government is preparing for that as well. The massive handouts to people who really don't need it has got to stop.

YOU LOT ARE TRULY FUCKING DUMB , bedroom tax is for the old white folk who live in a house , they are basically for4cing them to move so they can have the houses for immigrants

ARRRRRREEEEE YYOOOOUUUUUU FUUUUUUCCCKKKIINNNNG BLLLIIINNNNND !!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33808766

Probably. However, what you need to do is ask yourself a question.

How the fuck is a 70 year old person still living in a council house?

What the hell did they do with their lives for 50 odd years that meant they had nothing to show for it?

My grandparents and parents got fucking jobs and bought houses.

The immigrants are not really the problem, they are a symptom of a unsustainable culture of socialist entitlement.

They come here because we give everything away for free.

The difference in the past was the family supported everything, now the government supports everything, and the government wont say no so long as they can print money and influence votes.

Family wont give drug addict and aloholic money until they make the rest of the family homeless, but the government will just pay out for welfare programs until the money starts running out.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33792358

They worked for peanuts, sweeping your roads, cleaning public toilets. People who live in council houses more often than not, work for nothing. Minimum wage or should I call it maximun wage?

This is why they can never save or move on, pay a decent wage to ALL workers and perhaps they would be able to buy their own property. Pay them £200 per week and what do you expect?

Bankers and politicians fucked this country and now they want to blame someone. Who better than people who cannot defend themselves?

All workers working for minimum wage are basically working for the equivalent in benefits. They are working, but in reality they are on the dole, they just don't know it.

If all cleaners and retail workers etc etc stopped working the country would grind to a halt, so why is it these people are treated so badly, paid peanuts and called scroungers.

People need to open their eyes. Anyone agreeing that the poor should be made to suffer further are just ugly, greedy, selfish and probably lonely people.

What about the bankers who lie, cheat and steal. Or MP's that lie cheat and steal?

Tax avoidence etc. £20,000 lunches for politicians etc.

As for Cameroon and his bunch what qualitifcations or real jobs have they ever had? Are they self made millionaires
or did they inherit? (same as receiving benefits in my book).

This attack on the poor is going to hit hard working (minimum wage earners)young families and families with same sex children very hard. And you people think it is fair? And Right?

SHAME ON YOU ALL. I hope you are financially secure and your business never fails or you lose everything through a messy divorce!! Don't kick these people while they are down. Have a heart.

And no you are not paying for them, you are paying for bankers mistakes and the lavish lifesytles of the MP's etc.

Re: uk bedroom tax,the road to riots
Housing benefit is the government's biggest single financial headache. They're getting creative about clawing some of it back, and yet they're missing the obvious solution. Housing benefit has escalated because most people in rented accommodation get it from private landlords, and the rents have rocketed. They should tax the buy-to-letters and get the money back from them!

So basically people in public housing that have more rooms than needed will be forced to move or pay a tax for that room.

People are signing up for extra bedrooms and renting them out.
So this attempts to get that money.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3987337

only if you have a child that needs a bedroom, then grows up,leaves.one spare room.everyone i've heard talking know this is leading to enforced homeless being allotted a room in your home wether you like it or not.what could possibly go wrong.

Its about time they got all those unemployed leeching mothers that spit out babies to pay BACK the benefits they've taken. Re: uk bedroom tax,the road to riots
but that is exactly the problem now with this dependency culture that has emanated. i am sure that social housing was originally conceptualised for the exact purpose that you outlined. however, now, it is not being used any more as a last resort, for when hard times may befall. rather, it is increasingly viewed as a lifestyle choice. the problem is further exascerbated by wholesale immigration, but let us not forget that this culture of entitlement exists today within our society.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23956419

Exactly.

Instead of being a stepping stone its become a stairlift and parts of society have atrophied so much they are unable even to climb at all, yet all the while they are in denial anything is even wrong. Its gotten so bad the rest of society is now picking them up and struggling to put them on the stairlift in the first place.

and the sycophantic politicians have pandered to the entitled and ignored the problem as it has grown and grown.

Eventually the credit and housing bubble got so fucking big in the US it caused the financial crisis that is still affecting everything now.

I honestly think it is already over, all they are doing now is extending the time it takes for this to happen and probably making it worse.

There is going to be money in the streets worth nothing, families killing each other for food and soldiers shooting looters.

We created a society based on the illusion that everybody is entitled to a house a car and a big screen TV, even those that are not prepared to earn it, we have created a society built on the illusion that perpetual growth is possible and that it wont eventually stabilize at some point.

People sit and watch TV hoping to become the next superstar singer or sports player, instead of spending time learning a skill and starting a business.

This is all our fault for enabling this shit.

Hey, US should be paying attention. If this will work for UK, then what may possibly happen to the illegal - soon to be legal immigrants that keep coming to the US? Where they going to live?
 Quoting: Indysmindy

They already do that in the US. If you are in government housing and your income goes up, you get kicked out. If the number of people in your home changes, you have to move to a different unit that year, if not sooner.

Like I said, a transitory people.

Quoting: The Lump Under the Carpet

Well, you make community and friends where you are. And if you have to move you make it there. I have moved a lot by choice and always make friends where I am. Community can form pretty fast. It doesn't take years to form. You just have to be flexible.

best to start planning now cause lets face it, its no longer a question of if but when the shit will hit.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23956419

I'm working on that assumption now.

I dont totally blame the government though, they are just as scared if not more scared than i am..I guess they are worried because deep down they are the ones who will pick up the blame first.

If they want stability then they need to pay for it themselves.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123

Yeah, that's what's taught in the US. Nuclear family and all.

Standing by yourself does not actually create stability. Every man will eventually break or stumble at some point during his journey through life. Without support he will fall. One man alone is not stable.
Quoting: The Lump Under the Carpet

Then that man can go live with family or get room mates. Or he can get a job and make some stability for himself. If you get something for free or almost free at taxpayers expense then you need to be ready to make changes.

yes but the social system should not be a lifestyle choice as many have now made it, it should only be for those bad times. so hopefully, once the benefits start drying up, it will kick their lazy asses in to gear. and for the young girls(kids) having more kids, maybe it will discourage this sort of beahoviour. its all just too comfortable at the moment and that has to change.

SHAME ON YOU ALL. I hope you are financially secure and your business never fails or you lose everything through a messy divorce!! Don't kick these people while they are down. Have a heart.

And no you are not paying for them, you are paying for bankers mistakes and the lavish lifesytles of the MP's etc.

yes but the social system should not be a lifestyle choice as many have now made it, it should only be for those bad times. so hopefully, once the benefits start drying up, it will kick their lazy asses in to gear. and for the young girls(kids) having more kids, maybe it will discourage this sort of beahoviour. its all just too comfortable at the moment and that has to change.

"lifestyle choice". Do you really think checkout girls and shelf stackers etc really enjoy their lifestyle? Do you not believe these people if they could, would prefer more money and their own house?

You are mad, without meaning to be rude, most of these people do not have the education or skills to move on and so they are taken advantage of.

And because you are more successful you point your finger rather than being grateful for your life. Without these people you wouldn't feel as rich??

Re: uk bedroom tax,the road to riots
They worked for peanuts, sweeping your roads, cleaning public toilets.

What do you think my family did in the past, lived a fucking castle?

I come from a working class northen family of builders, miners, cleaners...

They worked, they earned, they invested and they sacrified and didnt live beyond their means, they asked the government for nothing.

Re: uk bedroom tax,the road to riots
Hey, US should be paying attention. If this will work for UK, then what may possibly happen to the illegal - soon to be legal immigrants that keep coming to the US? Where they going to live?
 Quoting: Indysmindy

They already do that in the US. If you are in government housing and your income goes up, you get kicked out. If the number of people in your home changes, you have to move to a different unit that year, if not sooner.

Like I said, a transitory people.
No real community.
Quoting: The Lump Under the Carpet

Well, you make community and friends where you are. And if you have to move you make it there. I have moved a lot by choice and always make friends where I am. Community can form pretty fast. It doesn't take years to form. You just have to be flexible.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123

Good for you. Always be adaptable and flexible for your country and employer.
You are very well trained and proud of it too. Good for you and your personal sacrifice and the transitory nature of your life. Congrats.
We are very proud of you for your ability to let go of close personal bonds and community at the drop of a hat with no silly emotions.
You are truly a well oiled cog within a pristine system. May you never become rusty and may you go to cog heaven when you become unusable.
Quoting: The Lump Under the Carpet

I see you added more.

And you should be proud of me. I PAY MY OWN WAY!

I am not taking/stealing money from anyone.

Oh, and if I did have to take taxpayers money so I could live I would be grateful for ANY PLACE TO LIVE.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND THIS YET?

Beggars can't be choosers. For you not to understand this would mean you are glad to support those that won't support themselves or you are living off the taxpayers.

Re: uk bedroom tax,the road to riots
What about the bankers who lie, cheat and steal. Or MP's that lie cheat and steal?

Tax avoidence etc. £20,000 lunches for politicians etc.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33874624

I'm not saying the government dont share the blame by enabling this shit, im just saying its now too far gone.

The problem when you give away too much free shit is people come to expect it.

or did they inherit?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33874624

You're jealousy is showing.

I dont worry about what other people have because its a waste of time and effort, i worry about what i can do to better myself.
