Re: Homeless in Dallas Texas
OP, just out of curiosity, what are you doing for a living now? (I've followed the thread from the start but don't see what kind of work you're doing).
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1501064

Offically, I'n not, and have no real source of income as of yet. I have a long time friend who had 210 acres of very rural woodland property upstate, and he is allowing me to stay here as long as i need or wish to. In exchange for room and board, I'm helping him with some construction projects on the property.

For the last fifteen years prior to this I worked in customer service.

What I hope to do soon is be able to work in a field I actually went to school for and love, which is photography. So my hope is that if all goes according to plan, by this time next month I will have all my ID, have the money coming to me from the company i used to work for, will have purchased a used vehcile, and have my friend get my cameras out of hock.

Even with my limted ability now I've been trying to network in this rural mecca of moose, coyotes and chipmonks, and have three potential jobs lined up for august..That's if everything goes according to plan. Thanks for reading!

Re: Homeless in Dallas Texas
Michael,

Thank you for this thread. I enjoyed reading it, what an adventure you have had.

I believe the positive response to your plight came from your opening your heart and soul and taking responsibility for your plight. Your honesty and need touched hearts as we all are only a few steps from the same plight.

An accident, poor health, the economy,...we all are vulnerable to something and a helping hand blesses the giver as well.

Hope you are feeling better and are able to make all your dreams come true.

Try to make good on your old debts to family, guilt is a weight we are better off without.

Best of luck to you!
hfhfhf

Just read your blog, a good first step. I believe you should keep it up as a form of self reflection and knowledge and therapy. We tend to see what we believe, and often we believe things that just are not true.

Relationships can be repaired, when you know where you went wrong, when you make amends and ask forgiveness.

I'm truly sorry you lost your job. I believe it is an opportunity to start a better more mindful life, thank God it didn't happen when your were much older.

One of the biggest employers here now tests for cigarette smoking and you can lose your benefits and your job for smoking cigarettes, being overweight, or not exercising! The world is changing fast, being self employed is the best bet for long term freedom and job security as we all age.

Stay mindful, hopeful and joyous, and blessings will come to you and those you interact with.

Thank you for your kind and uplifting words; they mean a lot. And yes I completely take responsiblity for the bad things I've done in my life. I can't undo them. I don't know if I was meant to be where I am right now. I do know that I see this as a second chace, one I will not squander. Once I get myself established here a bit more, and once I can overcome the beouracacy, red tape, and minor financial burden of trying to get a copy of my birth certificate I'll be a lot happier. It's amazing the things we take for granted in life.
 Quoting: homelessguy92

You get yourself out of one predicament with being homeless with help and now that you are facing more struggles with the financial system you need to keep your mind and heart free from stress and have faith.

I know because I also have been let down by burdens I thought were out of my control with the system and people but sometimes it pays to be thankful for what you have now and not to worry too much about the future.

Blessing and hope your life works out as you dream on!

Sounds like a great plan, OP. I'm glad you didn't end up with the "fuzzy end of the lollipop" as Marilyn Monroe famously said.

I did volunteer work last weekend handing out food to homeless people in our city - we handed out 300 meals. It's tough out there.

Anyone can give a gift upgrade to any member of the forum. Several times people here have given me a surprise gift upgrade for a month, which I never asked for and was out of the blue from someone I had very little interaction with. Just a spontaneous act of generosity from one GLPer to another.

So you resent that people do that, and that someone did it for OP? Where does that objection come from? Doesn't make much sense.

Re: Homeless in Dallas Texas
The suggestion to contact a social worker is good. Go to the dept. of human services office nearest where you are and apply for whatever aid you can qualify for. At least you should get some food stamps, and probably some referral to other help.

If this country is offering food stamps to Mexicans in Mexico, and all sorts of aid to illegals, you might as well step up and get some help after working and paying into the system, not to mention, your family that's worked and paid in for decades.

Salvation Army is also good. They may even have options other than a place to stay.

Worst case scenario, set up on a corner with a sign and take donations.

At this point, with the crappy globalist Marxist government and bankers ruining our nation, people need to get what they can. IMHO.

After O... nothing will ever be good again in this country.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 38997300

I had already looked into food stamps. I was told I did not qualify. I guess because I am not a pregnant female, a female at all, or a female with kids.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5574349

What an outstanding thread...It is really heart-touching(but not surprising) to see the people on this board help a complete stranger through a tough situation...the real key to happiness and the true essence of one's mission on this planet is to humbly assist and show grace and kindness to all of God's children and the majority of the posters responding to OP exhibited this...well done!

yea my son just graduated and cant get his birth certificate unless he has a state ID and you cant get a state ID without a birth certificate. TN law. So Im a little befuddled too.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37548997

Good suggestions but they don't totally resolve the catch-22 I'm caught up in. First, I don't have the cash right now. Second, when i DO GET my distribution check, I'm going to need a valid new york state license to open a checking account here so i can deposit it. And I can't get that license without FIRST having my birth certificate.

It's like you can't get this because you don't have that and that. And you can't get that because you don't have this and that.
 Quoting: homelessguy92

you'll pay, but you should be able to get your cheque cashed for a fee
 Quoting: _richard_

Besides real banks, there are very FEW check cashing places in NY. The reason is new your state law limits them to a 2% fee. And even if I did find one, I really don't want to have to give up 2% on an 8k check.
 Quoting: homelessguy92

Can you give the check to your friend to deposit in his account? Then he can give you the money back. Give him the 2% fee for doing this for you.

That's one option.

Someone else suggested that the bank that the check is drawn on shold be willing to cash it. The company I worked for was a fortune 50 company with 27,000 employees nationwide, so I assume they probably use a large chain bank that has branches all over. I won't know that though till I have check in hand.

No, I've tried a few times over the last several years. Besides, the require you to have a checking/savings account to open an account. Neither of which I have at this moment in time.

Another reason I don't want to accept financial help, is that the moment I do all the people who earlier accused me of being a scammer or a fraud ( but were shutdown but my refusal to accept help) would suddenly emerge from the woodwork and scream "GOTCHA!"

Others have suggested google wallet or an amazon wish list? But what do I really need. A can of coffee would be nice, but that's a luxury and not a real need.

Best wishes to you OP; and a tip of the hat to the AC 40170718, from Spain, who from day one, brought only positive posts and energy to this thread. We need THAT kind of mentality to spread across this earth!

Re: Homeless in Dallas Texas
So as of today I am officially homeless.

I won't bore you all with long sob stories.

About a year ago lost my job of twelve years, couldn't find new work, made some bad financial choices, and today I sit in the public library on my old laptop typing away as all my posessions lay in three small suitcases very close to where I am sitting.

I think this might possibly be the worst place to be homless, given the horrible heat.

So I have seventy-five cents to my name, am not sure where I'll be putting my head down to sleep tonight, and was wondering if anyone else out there has been in a similar prediciment.

I'll update my story here as I can. Maybe a few people will find it interesting.

You can blame a few things, like:

#1 Woodrow Wilson and his adminstration.

#2 FDR (1933) Communist Infiltrator, who sold this country (USA) out.

#3 Some Jews, (not all, but some types). With Jewish Bleeding heart Liberal Democratic Mentality.

Nuff said..

rant

There's your answer..

I can't really blame any of those entities for the hardships I've had in my life; they are all self-created.
