Exactly! Nurses have no authority or control over anything, asshat. We simply are responsible for too many patients at once and shackled with too many rules and regulations. Therefore no matter how hard we try, we fail because we are set up to do so. And I do not make a 6 figure salary. I make the same hourly as a restaurant manager whether I have 10 patients or 20, whether or not they are critically ill or easy, whether or not is the weekend or holidays. And I pay out the ass for malpractice insurance. And we now work every weekend and holiday with no extra pay because of the cutting of staffing levels. The financial managers of the hospitals are the ones who make money off of you, not the practioners. I don't get to charge extra when I have more patients or they are extra difficult medically. Yep pretty stupid person there As a former ICU nurse; you are correct one reason I got out of nursing Nurses are treated like garbage in most places and told to follow the rules; period You show them you can educate people to do better and they react by writing you up and giving you warnings your job is in jepardy if you continue to try and educate the public The administration tells you it is the '''doctors''' job to educate Funny thing ; that They don't educate because they want REPEAT patients and higher and higher incomes Yep The system ; like ALL other amerikan systems is a scam!! and based on master /slave mentality like all other systems in this shit hole OR if you show as an ICU nurse you know more than that doctor prescribing the meds and tell them you will NOT give it ; there is something better that doctor ; guaranteed will make you life hell until you quit or even worse ; the nazi boards in your state go after your license Yep in this day and age; they look at just about anything as '''trying to practice medicine'''' if you challenge the doctor demigod |

Those who do direct nursing care have to want to do it There is no middle ground. Nuring is one of the toughest jobs out there...toughest Those who never did bedside nursing can know it is '''tough'''' but have NO idea of the magnitude of just HOW tough it is.... A nurse is treated like garbage by the doctors, the administration, the families and in many cases the patients the nurse must know MORE than the doctor in most cases but is NEVER given the license or recognition of this The nurse must know more than a doctor for example at 3 in the morning when the doctor is going to cuss her or him out on the phone for calling at 3 am the nurse better have all her ducks in a row and know the patient needs something more that is NOT in the current list of meds and the patients condition is changing for the worse....
