California's Lake Oroville Main Spillway Severely Damaged/Eroded. Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed

Where ever it was made, concrete needs about 30 days per inch depth to fully cure.

Anything that speeds up cure time weakens the concrete. Even hot temps but humidity does impact too.

There is no freaking way all that concrete is cured. One crack and that water will wash out uncured concrete.

7 feet is 7 years of curing and that's the thin part.

100 feet depth of concrete? Most of that has got to be very wet.

Juan is a complete idiot as well as his subscribers. They had a power keg of a snowpack a month ago. But no, they ran 4k cfs out the hydro plant and let the sucker fill up all the while ole Juan B (wanna b) just acts like it's such a great idea and even made a video taking bets on when the new spillway was going to open a few weeks back, all the while never saying anything about the huge snowpack. The guy is a shill or a complete moron. They should of been dumping water a month and a half ago out the power plant. Ifk they did they wouldn't be using the spillway right now. One good pineapple and every levee from Gridley to Sacramento is gone, even if that dam holds. If Oroville lake is a hundred feet low it's not going to cause a drought in California, not with that snowpack. So saving that water can't be for greed's sake, most of the water is just gets washed out to the ocean this time of year anyway. Makes no good sense to even be in this situation. Anyone have the latest snowpack totals above Oroville?

it looks like all 8 gates are open. When they first opened it, the two end gates were shut. 1 and 8. 8 had the worst cracks in the anchor tendons.

Not too cautious? Or they need all 8 open to lower the lake faster?

Any updates on how the spillway is holding up?

The poster known as UH thinks the dam will collapse into a huge pile of rubble very schoon.

I suspect he/she may be right. They did a lousy job on that dam.

All that rain that was supposed to hit last week NEVER SHOWED UP.

That rain event ended up just being some light showers with only about an inch total falling in the watershed over about 8 days.

NO BIG RAIN EVENT... they can easily hold the releases down the spillway to a maximum of 25,000 cf/s. At the moment it appears that they are only releasing about 11,000 cf/s and the lake level is actually dropping even with the snow melt occuring.

Two more weeks and the dam and spillway should be past the worst risk part of the year wrt water flow.

Only releasing 11,000 cf/s DOWN THE SPILLWAY.

Overall the release rate is about 25,000 cf/s but about 14,000 of that is going through the turbins.

Update... flows to be cut tomorrow! Less than 15k CFS.

Doom averted for now.

Remember the spice (water) must flow in the summer. Not surprising that they are hoarding hard.

Some day it will inevitably fail. Bea and Johnson and Cahill are experts in detailing the dam problems.

A fault runs through the lake underneath. When God lets that rip, it will be disastrous.

In the meantime rejoice in strawberries, peppers, tomatoes, and carrots. Almonds and walnuts and so much more.

Everyday with Central Valley is a gift from God to the whole nation. Be grateful, but aware of how tenuous it is.
