I know we are somwhat protected because of the Strait of Gibraltar, but I think the energy would just wash over that small opening and keep moving....anyone know? I recently drove across Monnegros desert, fascinating place, there's a part that looks just like the American Southwest, like Arizona/Utah. I'm wondering about the coastal areas, from say Barcelona, Costa Brava and up to Perpignan, and even the Baleares as I have family there. I suppose for the geography the Med could get coastal flooding, but hopefully not too serious. I'm afraid Andalucia would be wiped out! Imagine what that will do to the price of food as it's the breadbasket of Europe. We only buy the Platanos de Canarias, haven't noticed a substantial price increase yet, but it's coming. They are already the most expensive bananas in the store! Stay safe my friend! I definitely will! Consider that tsunamis usually require a lot of depth of ocean water and space (thousands of miles) to build a tsunami wave.. There isn’t much space between the volcano and Africa, and again, Spain itself. That side of the wave would see a lot of its energy exhausted very quick. If at all, Rota would be hit worst for Spain (Naval Station Rota is over there)… If the sun is obstructed for any great period of time for much of Spain, we can expect things to get very expensive pretty quick and need to be prepared for that. |
